    Excellent tutorial video! Best I've seen on this topic. Thank you very much. I highly encourage you to do more plumbing videos because you explain and demonstrate the problem and each step of the repair so well you would "own" DIY plumbing on TH-cam. I've seen many, and you are the best. Keep it up! Encourage people to ask questions and answer them so you get more comments which boosts you on TH-cam. Outstanding job!

    one Important Thing I noticed Nobody here even mentioned it was Rimming The Pipe at all usually no stop coupling should slip by hand easily . Over all okay job but there was Inspector it would not pass due to not rimming the pipe.

    Nice job Tim! How was the tropical storm for you? Did you come out with no damage? I'm glad I moved down in Florida 2 years ago! I used to live on Long Island, NY had 69 mph winds today from T.S.

      Just make sure you can access and rotate the valve handle and you're good

    Hey Tim, are you a Jet Swet fan? i use em' all the time . you cannot solder any size gate or ball valve without it.i've learned my lessons.i once left a family without water for one night.luckily they were very friendly about it.i felt bad. i was stuck between a rock and a hard place that day. i'm sure you know this,all to well. went to my local furgusens plumbing shop here in Victorville,and bought the damn kit.i still use thee old bread trick.like your Videos.keep em' coming.

    I had to turn main water off to replace my faucet in kitchen. Now when I try to turn MAIN WATER VALVE BACK IN IT POURS WATER. It is not a metal/iron kind but plastic with red top piece that has two pieces sticking out on each side(handles) on has been briken off for years. In top center there is a white plastic piece that looks like it's a place to tighten a nut..like flat head. It I can turn that will it stop the leak?

    Hi Tim
    I am going I call a plumber but want to have new valve in hand when he shows up. I am going to have them install a YoLink Smart Valve. I am not 100% sure whether it’s 1 inch or 1 1/4 inch , etc. There is a large “1” on the side of the valve but does this mean 1 inch? If I order a 1 inch valve off Amazon will it work. I have not removed the valve yet but have another old cracked valve that side by side looks the same size and also has a “1” on it’s side. Yet when I measure the inside diameter of valve (thread edges) it is 1 1/4 inches. When I wrap a string around the pipe it’s attached to divide its length by 3.14159 it’s also approx 1 1/4 inches. I am so confused. What does the “1” on the side of valve mean and do I order the 1 1/4 valve or 1 inch valve?

    My water pressure has been fluctuating between very high and very low (days at a time for either one) for several months now. Non of my neighbors have the same issue, so it's obviously just my house. I live alone, so I know nothing else is on when the low pressure is occurring. Could this valve be where my problem is?

    • @DoYouLikeThisName
      @DoYouLikeThisName ปีที่แล้ว

      From what i read it could be a leak in a pipe or one of many valves that could go bad. The pressure regulator valve that controls how much pressure the house gets from the street could also be bad. If your water heater has a expansion tank and goes bad then it could be that as well. So many things could be the issue. It's not fun. Asking a plumber that does free estimates would be a good idea though.

    Could anyone let me know how much roughly (A range is fine) I should pay for a pro to do this for me in Southern California (LA area)? That is only one main shut-off valve replacement.

    I'm a rookie, I thought I heard him say meter but I was wondering on that job where was the main supply cut off at , a meter or a valve in the ground along the street/ yard near the building?

    • @PLUMBINGWITHTIM
      @PLUMBINGWITHTIM  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There was a city water meter near the road that cut the water off to the building

    The plumber fixed my leaky 'dreaded gate valve' with water inside!! cause could not stop the leak ,and he desoldered, and soldered a new ball shutoff valve! How he did it I don't know a secret , or a powerful torch!?

    First where is your safety glasses ? When you heat the ball valve should you remove the assembly first ? All the seals are burn right away… By manipulating sand paper instead of using professional tool there is contamination and worst of all no deburring of copper pipes….
