I freaking love you, man! So crazy, witty, funny and yet so freaking detailed with every review! Your takes on watch collecting - in a community usually filled with snobby, pretentious content creators - really is refreshing! Looking forward to watch your channel skyrocket. Keep up the great work!
    Cheers from NY.

    Another brilliant review again Russ!
Love the edged crystal giving that OG acrylic distortion effect. Maybe Seiko can start to throw in a slight yellow/brown tint into those sapphires if they want to warm up that old retro vibe some more (?)
Wondering if any intrepid watch nerds have identified Kilgore’s watch as yet? Kurtz and Willard have their watch taxonomy recorded.
Would be cool to see what Duvall was sporting in that infamous ‘Charlie don’t surf!’ scene!
/…and then the run would begin…

Excellent review. I own a vintage 6105 and the reissue. I have to say, I wear the reissue much more than the original. It simply wears better and I feel is in the right proportion as it relates to the dial, case, etc...I just wish I would have waited on the Green version, as I agree it is a beauty. Keep up the fine work your reviews are refreshingly funny and informative!!! Well done mate!

Love the format, great review. That is some energy level you got. Keep it up! I have been thinking of grabbing this watch for some time. I have the SteelDive version and it is certainly a great watch, but the dial on the Seiko is significantly classier looking. My next watch will either be this or the 62Mas. "What the wife said" is brilliant. :)

Great video. Plenty of chuckles in it. I agree it’s a bit pricey at full RRP but with a discount it’s worth it. I think it’s a great pairing with your BB58, 2 divers that fit 2 different purposes (that’s how I’d treat them anyway!).

Awesome show for a legendary watch MWC! That Uncle Seiko bracelet is a game changer too 😍
I said the same after watching Gordon from Illuminating Watches video on his Willard that it’s amazing how much of that classic Seiko dive watch DNA is right there in this model. Cushion case, 4 o’clock crown etc. A timeless bit of design.

That was a fun watch! I’ve been deliberating with this one for a few months now, but finally bit the bullet and it should be arriving in a couple of days. I went with the Matt Black dial and Green NATO.
I can understand the Green strap puts some people off, but not me, and it also reflects the Military ground force heritage and like ability by those troops, so it’s a tribute to them.
Needless to say, Diver watch models are simply unbeatable for all round cool sporty looks, robustness, and day to day aesthetic wearability.
We’ll done Seiko, this is the Turtle style I was hoping for, with heritage to boot 👍🏼😎

Well I've never owned a turtle , but I love the Willard case shape. I prefer the 62mas overall , so I've got a spb051, and just acquired a sla043. The 051 was one of the first higher tier divers reissues , and it cost me £675 used. The sla is another level and cost over 4k new. Again I managed to pick one up on eBay for 2.4k , and it's just gorgeous. I will never sell either . I'm tempted to get a sla version of this but I'm supposed to be cutting down !!! Delighted you love it Russ.

While it is true that the US Armed Services general service (GS) watch was meant to be disposable, the bigger issue was that they were in chronic short supply. This meant that they were readily available to officers and pilots, but very difficult for an enlisted serviceman to acquire.
Seiko and others filled the gap with watches built to a higher spec and to a more robust standard which were purchased at PX's by active servicemen during the Vietnam conflict.

This was an excellent review. You can obv tell your a massive Seiko fan - but you came across fair for sure. I’ve been critical of your Seiko faiko (143) in past, mainly because I’m kinda with you that the feeling of having the real thing is worth some extra ££. I think the Willard really proves this as despite the high quality homages on market for a tenth of the price you just can’t beat the Seiko fizz you get with the proper McCoy! Plus secretly I think you cry a little inside when you pop on the 143 build lol 😂- joking my friend - keep up the great content, genuinely one of the nice guys and proper original content makers in the watch YT space.

The green looks like an official NATO colour which looks so much better than the frog green Rolex use and the alloy bezel looks so much better than a ceramic. The date @3 looks good as they have just replaced the hour marker with a date window and as a result it looks great think the lug size could have been 21 or 22 mm, bin the rubber strap and put a nice NATO or ZULU strap on it. Looks like they have sorted out the QC issues
Really nice watch and a Seiko I would consider buying

I know there is a significant price difference between the two. The one thing that bothers me with the Willard is the bad accuracy spec. The other thing that bothers me with Seiko in general is their terrible Q&A.

Great review and I must admit, I was a bit skeptical this watch wouldn't look oversized on a smaller wrist, but you wore it well. I'm not particularly on board with Seiko's marketing strategy of discontinuing a popular model watch, later to reissue it, at a substantially more expensive price. I've recently bought a watch most know the brand as Steel dive; although the particular watch I purchased is an Addiesdive. However, these little gems saree giving Seiko a bit of friendly competition it seems with similar movements and, at times, better specs and prices. The green dial looked like a great color choice and Seiko does have brand power. Still, I think the original SNK809 is probably the best watch for the money. I've since seen a reissue of that watch as well and like this one I don't think it merits the substantial price increase.
Lastly, congratulations on all your achievements with the MWC show. You've certainly earned them.

Great review and top video editing. Would be great (more realistic?) to see the watch on the timing machine in the crown-down position.

Had my eye on this watch since TGV did a video on it a few months ago. His ran fine with just a few seconds deviation but Jody's on JOMW was way off. Yours seems OK but it seems a lottery on whether you get a good one. Not so much a problem sub £500 but an issue at £1k...

Got the black one, love it... actually prefer it to my SM300 😱...may well get the green one too. Paid £700 for mine, worth every penny imho.
    Great video thank you 👍🏻👍🏻

I picked one of these up about a month after they launched and pretty much came to the exact same conclusions. Not to crazy about the strap and swapped it out for a waffle from uncle Seiko and a hook strap. I also paid full retail but I had the funds and I don't regret it two years later.
My only major gripe is the movement. Not in its function but in its accuracy. I'm usually pretty lucky with Seikos. My previous two have been at cosc or close to it. Not so with my Willard I don't have a time graph but comparing it to my phone it's running at about +30 a day.
Overall it's a fantastic watch and a great do it all diver that you can dress up or down. But the alkalis heel as with all Seikos is movement accuracy.

Beautiful watch. I like the Willard but find it too large for my wrists. On another note, Seiko price to specs seemed a bit off. As others have mentioned, you can get watches similar to most seikos for a lot less. I still enjoy seikos.

So many chuckles watching this one 😂 You really are a bit mad (in a fantastically creative way)! A grand seems a bit steep though. I don’t think it’s any better quality than my Samurai Save the Ocean Dark Manta which is half the price?

If you like that green you should take a look at the Seiko Land Tortoise. The case of a mini Turtle, and it has a compass bezel.

I love this watch. I simply wish it had a slightly better movement. For example, the excellent 8L from the MM300 model, with the 28,000 beat rate and tighter accuracy. Otherwise, this is one of my favorite wearing watches.

@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR So I think I have spotted something (not gonna say it’s interesting though!😉) ….. I’ve been looking at purchasing the SPB153J1 online and I noticed that some do but others don’t have a little luminous slither next to the date square like yours.
In fact it’s really clearly there on the SPB237J1 colour variation.
    Any thoughts on this?

    • @lexnouwens1894

The ones with the lume next to the date window are newer. I believe it is to meet iso divers standards.

I just picked one up last week. I have a few minor complaints (bezel alignment, not overly accurate, the metal keeper is really uncomfortable). But overall, I love it! It hasn’t left my wrist. I agree regarding the price. If you can get 25%+ off, I feel it’s worth it.

It’s crazy how the name ‘Seiko’ has an impact… any other brand ( from budget to luxury) would crucified for qc problem… but Seiko gets a ‘oh that’s a Quirk of Seiko’

@@78thedaddy we live in the times of the golden calf! fanboy culture has become a norm and it is now OK to worship a productbrand. why do you think a company like Apple can have success with a business model that shits on the customer without trying to hide it?
