  • The last in the current group of Arthur Wright & Sons Knives, is a classic Spearpoint this is a budget offering, but none the worse for that. This is an area where Wright’s truly excel, the budget user knife. This knife will do all you need, at a price pretty much everyone can afford, and it’s made in Sheffield, England.

    That knife is definitely calling my name! I like the spear point, and working knives are kind of my favorite flavor. Cheers, my friend.

    I bought the same AW Spearpoint a couple of months back. Fit and finish was damn good for the price. I think Arthur Wright has improved quality control a huge amount in the past year or so.

    C'mon Slick! where are the American made knives! you must have one or two laying around?😂
    Well this one is definitely a solid work knife & Although I grew up a Clip-point kinda guy, the Spear-point is something that I now appreciate just as much.
    Thanks for showing the variety of the Sheffield makers - it's been a great help for us "across the pond"😊👍

      Warthogg I’ve one small small drawer of American knives, but I decided a little while ago to concentrate on British, European and Japanese knives. With a few exceptions.

      @@slick_slicers lol..Yeah Slick, I knew you must have made a decision to amass the best Sheffield has to offer lately. You've been on a roll! We've gotten to see some really special knives the past month. With great variety too!
      From the basic to the beautiful. I'm still waiting on my connection to score on those A. Wright knives he was promising. (In fact I may shoot him an email tonight). I've been looking forward to owning the 4" Lambfoot. And hopefully he'll have a "special" one of exotic wood handle that he can give me 1st crack at. As far as the U.S. made knives, you let me take care of that! ✌️😂
      I must be doing it wrong, I really don't have a strong "sector" of makers or patterns well (except barlows of course), but beyond that,
      I guess my philosophy is : $3 to $300, old to new, & from here or there!

      Warthogg have you spoken to Ashley Harrison on Instagram? I’ve bought one Arthur Wright from him, direct from the factory. Great service and a decent cost. I don’t know if he’d ship to the US, but you can always get anything shipped here and I’ll forward it.

      Gilad Shneor Barnea perhaps I bought the last two? Try Jane at The Famous Sheffield Shop ( Sheffield-Made.com ). If she hasn’t got one, she’ll order it for you. I don’t think it has a half-stop. Wright knives don’t as a rule.

    • @slick_slicers

      yup, £18.95 I think. There are a host of good British Knives from £15 - £40, and the consistency of quality is improving in leaps and bounds.

    For less than twenty quid it's hard to complain, a nice very traditional pocket knife.
    I really dislike 420HC I have had a few blades in it that were rubbish ( Leather man !!??) However, 440C is cheap enough, well proven and I would snap up any A.Wright with that.

    • @slick_slicers
      @slick_slicers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      chris osh I used Buck knives for years and never even knew to question the sort of steel. Never had an issue. OK, there’s certainly better, but I wasn’t complaining.

    • @chrisosh9574
      @chrisosh9574 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@slick_slicers I think Buck have a reputation for producing the best heat treated 420HC, the guy who was in charge of that side of things was Paul Bos, his heat treatment took it up to about 57 Rockwell whereas most others would come out around 54.
      420 is tough and stain resistant and fairly easy to sharpen but at 54 it needs a lot ofresharpening, 57 makes a fair difference. 440C with a good heat treat is harder to sharpen but I am happy to trade that for the performance.

    • @slick_slicers
      @slick_slicers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      chris osh the famous Bos heat treatment is certainly a thing, but it doesn’t trace back forever, and I’ve pre Bos Bucks and dozens of other 420HC knives from Sheffield and Solingen without any specific issues.
