- I just came to drop supply to get me a new pair of boots, and they hope put security tags through the sides of every single pair of boots in the store, so they are no longer waterproof. When I asked the employees about it, they told me that corporate made them do it.
Thank God they don't sell condoms there.

I've seen security tags through the side strap of pull on boots, and the upper tongues of lace ups, but never through the side walls. This is asinine.

As an employee at tractor supply, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard this exact thing. And I completely agree. Dumb decision making but we do get a lot of thefts. But ruining a product just for a few more boots to sell doesn’t make sense to me
I had an employee tell me that there were like 14 pairs stolen in a week where they work.
They’re the jungle drainage versions now. It’s a feature but a defect 😂
Yeah boot theft is a real problem at tsc. Had an employee tell me that people will just walk in with sandals and wear the boots out. They've lost a lot of profit because of it

Stores that do this it is ALL the boots, not just the display models. Even in the box they've been punctured and ruined.
We have changed our security tags to ones that fit the heel. So rest assured. Yes we are still using security tags and yes corporate said we have to use them so you can’t get mad at us employees for something like that.
But I highly doubt you replaced every pair of boots, so now you've just changed the tags and you're still selling boots that have holes in them, please do not try to defend the store you work for and probably are underpaid to do so

I love this video because it's my most popular one, and I love this response because it's the most common one, if you pay attention in the video it is every single boot inside every single box on all the shelves, every single solitary boot in the store has a tag through the heel
Time to move to the country. Our tractor supply out here doesn’t do that and although the employees are great, they’re not all running their own ranch or farm on the side, I can’t picture one of em following an order like that as they all wear boots and I’d imagine they’re all wearing muck boots at least once a day every day of the year and they’d not buy those of punctured

As a tsc employee my store at least has started putting then either at the top of the tongue or around the edge so it doesn't fuck it up as much but I can confirm boots are some of the highest shrink and I've seen a handful of times where people walk out with boxes of boots and once even stole one if our dollies and walked out with a stack of boots

@TestAccount-pm1oi the security tags generally suck and the eyelets might too wide for them to connect properly, some are better than others. Either way minimum wage employees tend to not care and if other stores were like mine, then management is also screwed

@TestAccount-pm1oi I quit since then either way. They promoted people who did less and were there for less time than I was. Hell new hires got paid more than me despite two raises one of which was for work ethic and picking up my shitty coworkers shifts. There's more problems than just boots and sure it's dumb to get them like that but when a store burns through five managers in less than two years you have bigger problems.
As a employee of this fine establishment at our store we use a different type and just put them through the the pull up loops but we do have a lot of people who just trade old shoes all the time sometimes there brand new shoes
Luckily, my company buys my boots for me every year. I haven't had to buy boots from the store in years.
Not all of them do it the same way bit alot of small stores do this too. Worked for a locally owned western store and we put those on almost everything. That being said we always put them through pre existing stitch holes. Tbh I would buy boots from tsc (work at one now) more because of the lack of options.

I’m pretty sure only certain stores do this, at our store the security tags get put through the tongue, still not ideal for waterproof boots but theft is a big issue
They do that at my local TS too, except that they put them on the pull tabs. Not sure if people still freak out about it, but I still buy my boots there and they’re just fine.

I’m going to keep it real with you chief. Theft is a major issue at TSC and I mean MAJOR. I’ve literally watched people walk in throw their old boots in boxes, put the new ones on and walk out.
In reality blame society not the company. The average theft loss for TSCs in my area average $40,000-$60,000 annually.
Oh we can certainly blame the company because there are ways to security tag the boots without destroying them.
This is just an idiotic maneuver.

At my store they put the tag way at the top of the opening, so if the water rose up to where they put the tag there would already be water in your boot anyways. That’s crazy I can’t believe they placed the security tag there!

Every pair of boots beside muck boots are junk who want to still them. Me and two of my brothers have got various brands and styles of boots . They’re falling off your feet with in a few months. It’s ashame bought RedWings and wore them for 4 to 5 years before they started coming apart and longer. So with them doing that just put some more nails in there coffin. For my part let them stick them junk anyway.
