True, but Pickett played 6 quarters after the firing of Canada. Team had over 400 yrds of offense in his first game with out him and then got hurt inside the 5 going for a TD against Arizona.

If Denver doesn’t have the worst defense to set foot on the gridiron for the first six weeks of the season, we don’t have this Russ is washed narrative. He had a great season for a franchise and coach that publicly didn’t want him. I’m more inclined to say Sean Payton is washed than Russ.
Right. His ypg were alot higher and the offense made bigger plays downfield. But to minimize mistakes seems like they neutered the offense.
If Denver is eating that 37.8 mil, and it is only costing the Steelers 1.2, Why would they not grab him. At the very least, he's a far better backup than Mitch was. And to add, The Steelers still haven't got to see what KP can do without Canada as the OC. And With A Smith now going to beef up their running game, who ever is at QB doesn't need to be super guy, just manage the game, and not lose games. And we haven't even got to free agents, and draft yet. The Steelers have I think 8 picks to bargain with. Yeah, not a bad spot at all grabbing Wilson for peanuts. JMHO

In all fairness - Russell Wilson did help the Broncos the past season to beat the Chiefs, Bills, Vikings, Packers, Browns, Chargers and Bears. I think he will help the Steelers this coming this season.

Wilson on paper looks better than Pickett however if he does not play well or clashes with coaches then they can cut him. One problem Sean Payton had with Wilson was he would improvise after 1 read instead of going through the reads. I do not know that will go over well with Pittsburgh any better than it went with Denver. But $1.2M is not a large investment for the Steelers if they cut him.

Smart on both sides. For Steelers it's a cheap flyer with no risk and all upside is it works. Russ gets a chance to show he hasn't lost it and compete with a team that can go far if he's actually good.

As a Steelers fan, I did not want PIT to go for Russ. Because it WAS time for Kenny Pickett's development with a proven offensive guy. But now with Russ in the building and him being signed under the circumstances that he was, I cant believe he wont be the Week 1 starter. My preference was that Kenny Pickett got this entire year to showcase who he is before making the final decision on him. This is the make or break year for him, and now his development is going to be compromised just from the fact that this happened. He needed a clean year, and that cant happen now. I have confidence that Russ will probably have more immediate success, but hes clearly on his way to the end of his career. But im not a coach or GM. I will say that this shows that PIT actually wants to take some chances where it matters, which is more than i could say this time last year.

Sean Payton really fumbled this situation badly
By cutting Wilson, Sean Payton has made himself virtually unfireable. He has a built in excuse for any on the field shortcomings for the next three years. So I would submit he didn't fumble at all.

1.2 Million compared to Fields 25 million which he was going to get since whoever signs him has to pick up his 5th year option. I personally like this idea, bring in a mature, veteran QB who has been to a superbowl and won it, be a veteran voice on the offense for Kenny, and show Kenny a few tricks and tips along the way.

Russ for 1.2 mil is the "steel" of the century. Totally agree w Brockman too. This is almost exactly like Baker v Trask QB competition last year (adjusted for inflation, the salary cap increase, yada yada). If Russ can't beat out Kenny for the starting job, he's cooked, he's done in the NFL. It's the same thing people were saying about Baker last year. If Baker couldn't beat Trask for the staring job, he was done, it was Baker's last shot. Now look at him, 115 mil the richer. Yes, Kenny has more game experience than Trask does and Kenny's O-coordinator was trash for the first year and a half of his career, you can keep making excuses for Kenny, but his game has the same deficiencies Russ' does, he doesn't like throwing it over the middle and he takes unnecessary sacks. If you take that into account, and look strictly at the numbers, head to head, knowing both players have similar problems, Russ is head and shoulders above Kenny as a player. Yes, it will be a competition, but Russ is the clear cut favorite. It's his job to win or lose. He's got a ring, he's been to another big one. Kenny was sitting on the sidelines for his first playoff game because the organization knew the guy who started the year out as QB3 was a better option than him. I hope the Stillers have some damn sense and resign Mason Rudolph and trade Kenny to the Vikings for a 6th like the pats did for Mac. Mason v Russ for the starting job is even more compelling, and hopefully still a bargain.
C'mon Rich....Wilson was a top 10 QB stats wise before they benched him last year because he refused to sign away on an injury waiver, which was a smart business decision. He's a much better QB in the Arthur Smith system then Pickett. C'mon Rich....you're usually much more educated on these things. He's a perfect fit for the offense that is being installed.
Steelers love sloppy seconds now. How did that work out for them last time (MT) and how'd that go for the broncos? Eventually, you have to get over the fact that Ben, not Tomlin, was the pittsburgh steelers and take the time to develop your own young qb.
