Part of why Seattle was ready to move on is that they didn't want to be on the hook for yet another huge extension. Wilson's agent is ruthless and gets top dollar. Thus, there never would have been a trade to Denver without the agreement to extend his contract ASAP. So they made the trade knowing they were also extending him.

But that pass he made to Butler it's like two parallel universes could've split there. If he won he's got 2 in 2 years and propels forward a dynasty up to now. Instead Brady wins to kickstart his 2nd career dynasty after 10 years. And that propels him forward almost 10 years to attending 4 more Superbowls, winning 3.

All of which would be number 2 maybe number 3 receivers on other teams. Brady played a bunch of guys in the east for years, rogers had the bears and the lions 4 times a year for years, mahomes has virtually no competition in the west. Rule #31: If a franchise trades or cuts its healthy starting quarterback without a plan B at the position, there is a high likelihood that they are no longer a franchise quarterback. You bring him in at your own peril and you should absolutely know that the chances of success are low.
Franchise QBs are a rare and premium commodity, and when you believe you have one, you keep them. This is now the second franchise to cut ties without a legitimate backup plan, so it tells me that the dude is washed. @tyronegrant3422 I don't know, he had a lot of success for a lot of years and helped coach up a lot of stars and future Hall of Famers. Payton didn't inherit a winning franchise in New Orleans or in Denver but managed to get one of them to the mountain top (so far). I'm a Chiefs fan, so I really don't care how this works out for Denver or for Russ. But even as a fan of another team, I know that if Seattle and Denver could have won with this version of Russ, they would have won with this version of Russ. 🤷 Whatever market value Russell Wilson has right now, is because of what Payton was able to get out of him. Because his first year after being moved by the team that drafted him lowered his stock considerably. Imagining what Russ can be for someone else is not reality, that is a guess at best. The reality is that the team that wanted him to be great the most (Seattle) didn't want him in the building, and the team that had hope that he would bounce back (Denver) now doesn't want him in the building. Those are real things that happened. Reality.

What happened with Russ was all the broncos doing. Terrible coach his first year, he would have probably done better without a coach. Then his second year he has a coach who wants him gone the whole time. After they told him they wanted him to give up his injury guarantee he probably just shut down. They did him dirty. I hope the broncos suck for the next 5 years, Payton gets fired with 4-13 seasons, and Russ finds somewhere to show them up. The dude works harder than anyone, is so inspirational with what he does for the community. The broncos did the Walter Payton MOY dirty. It does for certain type of demographic that is held to a different standard on top of him having such a polarizing personality. These ppl never liked Russ. They were always ready to try to write him out the HOF if he had a bad season. 2022 a year he was injured with an incompetent head coach and depleted Oline and RB room is all they needed. Now that he played better in 2023, the damage was done as they pretended he wasn't good all year long despite it being obvious the defense was real reason they started 1-5.

IMO inflated expectations in a world where everyone thinks a great player is like a machine you just plug in and forget the rest is just not working. He had 2 years with 2 different coaches and systems and was coming back from an injury. He was getting better and one more season would have proven he was the right choice but that was not the expectation sold to the world. As a Raiders fan, I can see where organizations are to blame and not only the players...and I hope Raiders pick him up!
