Damn son! That's honestly incredibly impressive!! Here's something I accidentally figured out in that game; did you know you can give commands to sims on your team? Hold A to open the weapon web, then press Z while the cursor is in the middle. That all the way blew my mind back then, and honestly still does to this day lol. It's still my favorite first person shooter of all time 😌
First time I played Dark Souls it reminded me of Castlevania 64/LoD. Not so much the gameplay but the setting and feeling I got from playing them. Great list btw. All good games.
After playing Dark Souls for something like 60 hours, and having beaten Demon's Souls at the time, It occurred to me that what it reminded me most of was a modern-day Castlevania, one that had eschewed a lot of the traditional trappings associated with a character driven side scroll action game with a steady shared plot, but with the equipment and the design of everything in the difficulty, it just always put me in mind of a Castlevania game. And I stand by that comparison to this day.
Somehow this is the first time I've ever heard of Winback. I've never heard anything about it before. It definitely seems to have been almost completely forgotten by the gaming public.
Winback is a good time for sure. Really fun gameplay loop! The only problem is there is zero variety, nothing to break up the action. Rocket is the opposite problem lol. So much variety it is overwhelming, even though it is quite well put together.
I was hoping to see Winback on this list. It was no Perfect Dark, but it was so ahead of its time that it got a remake before other cover shooters even started to come out
I once had a dream that i was a massive Crow. Well, not big, big but about the size of a small child when stood up. The dream was so realistic, i was just doing ordinary things that Crows do like flying around, landing on a couple of rooftops i oonce landed in a field and was pecking the ground for example, that type of thing. I even had a couple of Crow mates but they were ordinary size so i think i was their leader or something. It was bloody great especially flying. I'd go up and then kind of swoop down whilst 'cawing' CAW CAW. It felt so real, i truly felt like i was a large Crow. Ever since then ive had a bit of a soft spot for Crows, a kinship you could say. When i see one i kind of nod my head whilst giving them a wink with a friendly smile. They don't react in any odd way but i do it regardless. I wonder whether the whole thing had a meaning behind it. Have you ever had a dream like that?
@@BigBillKelly-x2z I’ve often had vivid dreams about being other people. Not celebrities, just ordinary folks. I make up entire backstories. Not animals though.
Glad Winback is on the list. I got pissed when Resident Evil 4 was credited to be the first of what this game did years ago: Including the targeting laser. In short when it comes to game-play Winback is a bit of a bit more arcade style RE4 were you move slower than Leon while you're enemies move 5 times faster than Los Ganados (Correct me if I am wrong I kinda forgot the of RE4 enemies) with guns blazing. With a very or should I say super simple 80's action movie/Metal Gear Gear style story. But still a great game for it's time that I do think it holds up, though it can get pretty repetitive at times but that may be due to the lack of extra and complex story elements between point A to B that RE4 and Metal Gear Solid have to keep their games fresh for a bit.
Jet Force Gemini is missing on this list. Before it, 3th -person 3D -gameplay, the pace of it, was much slower on than on 2D -games. Even 3D -Castlevania was slow when compared to NES -versions. But Jet Force Gemini had easily as fast gameplay as something like Mega Man on NES. Besides, it made countless rip -offs appear years later, including Ratchet And Clank -series.
Probably glover, as the bouncing really threw me off as a kid. Had glover’s ip released on the Wii, it would have been a staple like pikmin. You could always watch the sequel beta and see how unique the gameplay was going to be from the original. Anyways a single game that came out too soon and was too late to the party.
I like it how n64 was trying to push the limitations, and rareware was making games for Nintendo until Microsoft purchased it. Good time...good times. (':
I love so much about that game, and every day that goes by that I can't play as Lanky Kong in a modern game is a bad day. I desperately want them to remake it and fix a lot of the QOL problems it had.
If you put the camera in Mario mode (as opposed to the default Lakitu mode) via the pause menu, it becomes noticeably less restricted. Make sure to immediately hit C-down to zoom out, though, or it'll be impossibly twitchy!
@CulturedVultures I'll get right on that, I'd advise start working on that right now 😅. Please keep it 8 bit tho, can't handle these 3d remakes of 2d games.
More N64, you say? Here's our playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLe6Km7QryeUTMnQV7cfPy0qHskjQ6vPTm.html
Perfect Dark was my jam. I was ALMOST able to 100% it. I just couldn’t beat the final challenge.
Damn son! That's honestly incredibly impressive!!

I freaking LOVE Hybrid Heaven. Always appreciate any spotlight it can get.
If it were up to me, every RPG should let you put enemies in a Boston Crab... Sucks that I didn't like WrestleQuest that much.
Ah, so happy to get a chance to mention Nightmare Creatures.
nightmare creatures is so effing good. yet no one ever mentions it.

Most underrated game of its time and in existence, perfect dark. 👌
We rented Winback around '02. We cracked up at the enemies shouting "Over there!" all the time.

Love your videos, brings me back. Made me start getting my N64 out again and emulate certain PS1 games.
so many hours we spent on goldeneye on 4 players and having tournaments on weekends and holidays
So happy to see Aidyn Chronicles on this list. One of my favorite RPGS of all time. It was basically the N64 Morrowind. Would love a remake today.

Cool video guys! :)
Castlevania 64 is mentioned so infrequently that for years I thought I had just dreamed it.

This might be a stretch but I’m getting an early development Eternal Darkness aesthetic from First Mage.
Fighters Megamix was the first franchise crossover versus fighting game, not Smash Bros.
N64 needs more recognition as the console that brought fps into the front room

Great video, but Labelled chapters instead of numbers are the norm on YT these days, they would be appreciated next time :)

Turok N64 and Shadowman
I friggin hated Aiden's Chronicles.
However I can see it's value towards today's games
Mario Party paved the way for other party games (e.g. Shrek Super Party).
I would've accepted a scatman john joke as an alternative to a poo joke
Aidyn Chronicles is always overlooked. I put so many hours into that game as a rental from Blockbuster. What was your favorite party?
Abrecan, Keelin, and Godric (to sell potions) but he could be swapped out for anyone really.
@@terminalpower. I was Abrecan, Brenna and Godric. Brenna’s thief abilities came in handy.
nice boat

A....whipper *crack* of a video
Why the Joanna Dark from the Xbox?, there is a tonne of PD N64 promo material if they wanted something higher rez for their thumbnail
Perfect Dark is definitely better then Goldeneye

Thanks so much, man!
@@CulturedVultures you're welcome! 🫠
DK64 Anyone?

LOL at Mario 64 having a "free" camera. That camera was under house arrest at best. (:
free in the relative sense of doing crime but being putting on house arrest ofc
We neglected to mention Lakitu's ankle bracelet when writing the script, whoops.

Why no Zelda? Just because a game is better than anything else doesn't mean it can't be on lists.
It's boring to talk about tbh. Absolutely nothing new or interesting to say about the best reviewed game ever
Ogre Battle 64 way ahead of their time
Dude Ogre Battle... Got so many late fees from the grocery store video corner. Should have just bought it🤣
Sin and punishment?
So all of them then?😅 when we doing the snes video when you finally mention illusion of time?
get us to 100k and we will *make* you a new Illusion of Time
@CulturedVultures I'll get right on that, I'd advise start working on that right now 😅.

Castlevania 64 ahead of its time? LOOOOL AHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Team scat. Lol
