    Elsewhere on the show Ken Shamrock has his final WWF match. Shamrock faces Chris Jericho in the Smackdown semi-main event. The Undertaker leaves the company after refusing to follow Mr. McMahon's orders, and the New Age Outlaws reunite to face The Rock & Mick Foley.

      The WWF had problems working out how to integrate the MMA Guys into the mix, they had legitimate skills that could really injure people and I don't think it quite worked, the other factor is they mostly didn't have the Mic Skills the Wrestlers had, it's similar to what happened early on with Brock Lesner but that time they added Paul Heyman in to do the talking while Brock developed his schtick.

    It's kinda wild that WWF was simultaneously having Chyna portrayed as an evil heel helping Triple H while also playing a face vs worlds biggest misogynist week after week, and these angles are sometimes like 5 mins apart. Chyna be helping Triple H break Jim Ross arm at 9:15pm then at 9:22pm coming to save six grandmas from being beat down by Jeff Jarrett lol

      It's so weird seeing this. I know what Chyna did 1999, it's just that I didn't know she was doing some of these things while still with Triple H. I thought she left him and then starting feuding with Jarrett.

    • @labbaby189
      @labbaby189 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +13

      Chyna was such an anomaly. She had to fight dudes because no one in the women's division could do anything with her, and when she did she trucked thru the whole roster and left with the title. She was so over she could do heel ish with HHH and get babyface pops when she's doing other stuff. Ppl talk about her in ring work, but she was only a notch below The Rock and other "sports entertainers". Hopefully RTW can remind ppl of Chyna's greatness.

      This was such an amazing period for Chyna (July-Oct 1999). She probably got more screen time than anybody because she had her own major storyline with Jarrett but was also accompanying HHH who was all over the show. Take this episode for example, she appeared more than Rocky and Foley. And yeah, so wild having her as a baby face and a heel within the span of 5 minutes. Really exciting time to be a fan of Chyna!

    I always felt that the "Austin Era," as I called it at the time, ended soon after SD came on. I used to refer to this as the "SmackDown Era" with friends. Reason being, this promotion was rapidly changing from just a few months before. Rock was a face; Taker became a biker; Austin goes away; the shows revolve around HHH; Shamrock leaves; the tag teams of 97-98 are mostly all gone or fundamentally different in their characters; etc. In hindsight, I realize it is because Russo left, but the changes are happening even before Russo left. (As an aside, I always felt Russo was more interested in the characters he created in 97-98 than in anything else he did, and those characters ending probably furthered his desire to leave.)

    Farewell from Reliving the War, Ken Shamrock. You debuted in in 1997 during Episode 72, the legendary ECW invasion episode of Raw, and now 130 episodes later your time has come to an end. Here's "looking forward to" WCW trying to imitate your aura with Tank Abbott in 2000... and absolutely failing to do so in every way possible. At least the WWF will have a proper successor to your awesomeness with Kurt Angle in a couple of months.

      Also, I literally mentioned which episode of Reliving the War Shamrock debuted in, so maybe watch that video first & see his first appearance during the ECW invasion at the Manhattan Center. Yes, Ken didn't have a match that night, but it was how the WWF debuted Ken in the lead up to him refereeing the match at Mania 13.

    Ken Shamrock's return to MMA was so weird. He went on a massive losing streak, which isn't so odd since he was older and rustier and the game had evolved a lot since he was a real threat, and he refused to learn anything new to try and catch up. What IS odd is the things he said after losing: he talked about it like he was doing a shoot interview about a loss in pro-wrestling. Like, stuff about how it's the duty of the older guys to put the new guys over. I don't know if he was just trying to vaguely imply that the losses were fixed to preserve his badass aura, or if he genuinely thought he was obligated to not win. He genuinely wasn't good enough to win anymore so I'm thinking it's probably the former. But maybe he was actually throwing fights because he thought losing would win him brownie points with UFC management... It didn't.
    I remember a bit in WWE where Vince McMahon was wooing Ken to join his faction but he started it off by telling Ken that he wasn't very bright but he was a badass so he needed somebody to do his thinking for him. I'm pretty sure that line was inspired by Vince's actual real life impression of what Ken was like. He was not a smart man.

Not only to see what he could do in the rest of the Attitude Era, but to see him in the Ruthless Aggression Era, especially 2002-2005 Smackdown feuding with Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, Edge, Rhyno, John Cena, JBL, and Batista. He'd have a real good chance of becoming WWE or World Heavyweight Champion in that era.

    I was already a Triple H fan, when this aired, but this episode made The Game into an absolute hero, in my eyes, which I doubt was the goal. The man refused to give in, despite the odds, and fought his hardest, against McMahon. If they wanted me to hate Triple H, they failed. He'd get more despicable, later, but this was his trial by fire. Literally.
