September 16th 1996 I was in the 6th grade and had grown up a “little stinger.” He was the reason I watched wrestling. I will never forget that promo it’s probably my all time favorite and the following transformation into “Crow Sting” just made me that much more of a fan. He’s the GOAT in my opinion.
You should check him out now! At 63 hes in the best physical shape and wrestling with AEW and putting on awesome matches. Every time I see him in the ring or doing dives off the ring entrance into the crowd I forget that he's in his 60s. But it's not like you're afraid for his well being and his age is showing.. the guy is in legitimate amazing shape, still running the ropes.
Sting's transformation was one of those 1st form to final form type of deals from his face paint, to his ring attire, his hair growing into the crow gimmick. Then from being charismatic and talking to being mysterious and not speaking at all. One of the best change of characters of all time.
I was a hulkamaniac, a little warrior and a little stinger. More so a stinger. Why tf could this dude jump all the way across a ring? There's no "Hogan leg drop", "flair figure 4" or "warrior body splash" but there is the stinger splash... no matter who does it, it's the stinger splash.
@@eddiemarin2984 His "corniness" was endearing. Surfer Sting was such a kind, pure and noble white-meat babyface he made John Cena look like New Jack in comparison. We just don't get faces like that anymore...

if these videos are a result of the move then all hail the move! these collections are great and my man wrestling bios gets to do what needs to be done!
Sting didn't have to go full crow so it's good he did it with a vulture and the black and white version of his surfer make up. He could of just kept it then went back to surfer sting. Love to see 1 more neon sting
I loved Sting and Randy Savage as a team. It was like they bridged the rivalry between Hogan and Luger. Actually it was this trifecta of three dudes who hated each other except Sting. They all just wanted to be his best friend.
I hope everything is going well with the move. I’m really liking these compilations. A Stone Cold one would be awesome as we could watch the evolution of his character. Thanks for the premium content as usual. 🍻
Wow,,,I remember, before WCW got REALLY big, they used to show it on Saturdays in the UK on Channel 4. It was mainly 3 or 4 Jobber vs Jobber matches, a promo shoot or two, and if we were lucky, Sting vs Big Van Vader to finish the program. EDIT: My mistake. It was WCW Worldwide, Circa 1992, on ITV Saturday evenings.
I remember it being on channel 5 on friday at 9-10pm around 1998, it was 1 hour condensed version of nitro. Exactly the same as you describe, 3-4 jobber matches, 2 promos and main event with kevin nash, goldberg, ddp, sting, flair, Hogan etc!
This was awesome to watch. Loved it. I actually really liked Sting and Lugar during this time frame. I always wondered where the story was going to go if the NWO hasn't if happened. Keep these up. A SID or Ahmed Johnson in 96 to early 97 would be a fantatic to watch as well. Both were crazy over at one point during that time.
*Greatest of all time just had a sick tag team match with Darby Allin in AEW tonight. He wore new 'day of the dead' style face paint which looked AMAZING*
I totally agree...honestly I hated that crow sting character ..im old school..I love 80s 90s NWA wrestling when sting was the t.v. champion and lex luger was the U.S champion..I hate this soap opera stuff we get nowadays..lol
56:55 In a way, I still get surprised at how badly Hogan was behind the scenes when he can't even remember the name of the group *HE SAID HE HELPED CREATE!* That's why we really know that he just saw a bandwagon he could hitch his dusty ass to for longevity. Its probably why Nash always stood about 2 paces away from Hogan for just about all his mic sessions with Hall and Hogan.
Honestly 90s HBK and Sting(before he turned into "crow" sting, and even then he still tried his best to match all of his attire) had some of the best wrestling attire when it comes to the way that they coordinate all of their attire. The way they wear the matching boots with the tights and their entrance attire and etc. I swear no other wrestlers during that era had better and colorful attire like HBK and Sting.
The reality was that this was about Sting knowing the fans better than most of the rest of the talent. Yes, the "Crow" inspired version and the later "Joker" inspired version were others' ideas.. but only Sting had the charisma and bond with the fans to pull it off. While everyone boasted how "WWF/E was always running at number one, Sting almost single handed at times for long stretches made WCW worth watching. "Destroying" Sting was vital either for a heel to get over (many tried and got into the upper tier that way...), or to lure him away. Vince tried many times.. and the fact that Trips was so threatened by him that even after Sting jobbed to him at Mania.. he let Seth Rollins "retire him" so he couldn't claim an WWE Triple Crown or even a Grand slam (as WWE acknowledges WCW championships). The truth be told.. Sting was the man that made the MNW so worth watching.
Really interesting to watch these compilations and see the evolution taking place before our eyes as Sting's hair gets longer and longer. I watched during Sting's no wrestle Crow era as a kid. Never got to see this buildup.
15:52 big bubba/big boss man was one of the best bigger men to ever do it. And was surprisingly agile for his size. I love hearing Cornette tell stories of Bubba.
Sting was always under appreciated. Him and to a lesser degree DDP were the only real threats the nWo ever had but they never utilized them properly. They should have defeated the nWo.
I laughed when you stated that these sting & luger matches being repetitive. The effect is heightened in this format. At least in RtW you have other content in between.
I believe thats why the face paint evolved over the years to the more 97 version which was far enough no lawyer could technically win it in litigation.
I could watch STING/FLAIR matches everyday....has Flair ever successfully done that top rope spot? I know that's a standard spot where Flair is supposed to get caught and slammed down to the mat but in Kayfabe wouldn't Nature Boy realize "maybe this isn't a good idea, I'm 0-5,000 trying this"?
When Luger beat Hollywood clean with the rack me and my pals went apesh*t! We were at my house munching pizza and thought it would go down as usual - with the NWO making the save for Hogan......But when he fought them off and won we went crazy screaming and shouting and racking eachother as my mother came down to see what we were yelling About hahaha. That was a great show.
@@derekvietro784 I think early Luger is really underrated myself, seems he got a bit lazy when working for vince, but turned it on again on occasion in WCW.
Sting and Luger have teamed dozens of times and it was probably the best randomly made tag team of all time. Regular tag teams would be the Steiners, or Road Warriors.
