I have an '06 5.7 H and this procedure seemed to have destroyed my Throttle Body (TB). I did disconnect the Neg. on Battery, but did not remove the TB for the cleaning as in the video. I also used my finger and toothbrush as in the video. Upon completion, as the fellow covered, the vehicle did run rough but that did clear up. However, when I next drove the truck and ever since, I am getting the Red Flashing lightning bolt error. Since, in doing research, everything says to remove the TB and most say not to touch the fin. I would recommend removing the TB, it's only 4 bolts and obviously wish I had done that. One video I saw, the fellow removed the TB an showed where it states "DO NOT CLEAN" right on the unit. He cleaned it and it seemed to work well. Anyway, I've ordered a new TB.
This method stands the risk of trashing your stock TB. I owned my 08 for 3 days in 2013 when it needed a new TB post cleaning. This is how I always cleaned them previously but now they come off the vehicle, cleaner sprayed on the rag and then the rag to the throttle body. Do not spray directly into your throttle body. You've been warned. Great video for dismantling though.
I wasn't really worried about the throttle body but the fuel injectors. That debris can clog one or more of them unless there is some sort of filter before the injector. I don't see how spray it directly makes a difference than wiping it with a rag do you care to explain more? I am going to be cleaning my TB again. The first time I just sprayed it like in this video but my plan is to remove it and clean it correctly.
Thank u so much I can tell a huge difference between when my rpm drops from 600 it's now studying at 700 thanks dude and my gas mileage is a lot better 😀

Back 2005 guy had old 1961 Caddy. Idle was so rough and low. With Gumout and a toothbrush I cleaned the throttle plate, poured some more in carb, let her sit about 10 minutes. That baby fired up and ran like a new engine. idle up, smooth. Guy thought I was a magician.
You can just unclip airbox, unscrew the 2 bolts and take out the whole thing in one unit. Leave the filter in the bottom of air box to hold your tools. While your in there clean or replace the pcv valve and when done replace the air filter.
I think you’re not supposed to move or touch the blade on any electronic throttle body because it will mis calibrate so Please don’t do it how it’s shown in this video otherwise you will have to reprogram it with a computer program compatible with dodge ram ecu or in the worst of the cases replace the throttle body with a new OEM one!!! Please do your research first and you’ll se what I’m talking about ✌️
Yes you're right but that's why I'm here in this video because on the Dodge Ram Hemi 5.7 the throttle won't open when the key is ignition on and foot on the gas pedal like the Chevys so I don't know what the f*** to do now I'm just clean the outside of the throttle for now but why doesn't the throttle open when the ignition key is on
These guys usually make good videos but this one is not recommended, always best to remove throttle body for cleaning, all that grime is being pushed down into ports.
yes it sure can. Remove the wiring harness before even touching these things, and never stick your fingers in there with it hooked up! High torque motor with a gear reducer will take your finger off like nothing! Honestly, it's 4 more little 8mm bolts, and it slips right off. I've never seen anyone leave it on to clean. Why would you wanna flush all that crap down your intake? And it's way easier to clean on your bench, or parts washer if you have it.
correct me if I am wrong, by taking off the negative terminal, that allows you to move the throttle body to clean it, so you don't cause issues with your throttle coding. Also correct me if I am wrong, you can also have someone turn the ignition on and hold down the throttle while you clean it.
+Andy Southern You want to make sure the negative is disconnected so you do not cause any issues with the computer or electrical system while cleaning the part. you do NOT want the vehicle on while doing this process.
I was told by a dodge mechanic, that the only 2 ways to clean there throttle bodys is 1. use a scan tool to open throttle to wide open, or 2. have some one turn the ignition on but don't start engine then have then slowly push the throttle all the way wide open, then get in there with throttle body clearner and a tooth brush and get at it lol once done cleaning have the person who is holing the throttle wide open to slowly release the throttle. then turn off ignition. this is what he told me ......Yup. Don't touch it with the key off, or the battery disconnected, unless you want to buy a new one. You have to go Wide open throttle with a scan tool, or it MAY do it with the key on, foot down on the gas. The TPS and the Throttle actuator are both on the same shaft, so it may lose position if the key is off or battery disconnected. Take the intake elbow off, key on(not running), see if it opens wide. If it does, have somebody hold the pedal, get a tooth brush and a can of intake cleaner, get er done!!
No, definiitely don't clean it while the truck is running. It's very easy to remove, and that's how you should clean it. 4 bolts, 8mm. Keep your fingers and engine safe.

My mother in law has a 2007 Dodge ram 1500 4x4 with 5.7 liter , this scary situation caused so much anxiety for my mother in law that she Don’t want to drive it anymore, So she was going down the highway at 65 miles and there was a car go slow so she is passing the car and seen a car coming so she kicks the pedal down and makes it , but the truck is still in high exceleration and going higher , she panicked and try’s to hit the brake but can’t stop , finally she able to put the vehicle in neutral and coast to the side of the road and the engine is just blasting in high rpm , what would be the cause of this .
+Enimativ D We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
The throttle body could attribute to that. Alot of problems like that happen in the airflow parts of the engine. Those are the easiest to work on too. So it doesn't hurt to see
Anyone remember the GUMOUT Cleaning Kit for carbs? Plug fuel line, feed straight GUMOUT into carb. from bottle you hung under the hood engine running. Boy those kits helped. They were discontinued because of fire hazard. I got lucky and Penzoil sent me like 8-10 kits for free.

what about the 3.7L V6 ? I am unable to figure out to remove the resonator box/air intake cover? i have an 08 , but your hemi engine removal is a breeze compare to mine. those bolts under the alterntor and oil filler I dont have them. Reading online and everyone has the 4.7 , Hemi or the 4th gen ram. Any clue on removal?
I have the 3.7L engine. Sorry it took three years for you to get a reply :) The resonator is mounted with two bolts, one of the left and one on the right. The one on the passenger side is at an angle and the one on the drivers side is vertical. Once those bolts are out, hit the bottom front of the box upward, with your fist or a rubber mallet, to loosen the post from the hole it's in. Then grab the box with both hands and move it around to loosen the outlet from the throttle body. Pull it towards you, away from the throttle body.
Fred No... You disconnect the battery because you need to be able to move the blade manually without it trying to keep closed and without it being energized at all. Inside the throttle body the motor is very powerful and can cut your fingers if it tries to close. You disconnect the battery and when you're done reinstalling everything, the ECU will have a blank map and will relearn the TPS values which have changed after the cleaning.

How do you do the throttle body reset procedure?
Do you have to relearn the throttle body after cleaning? I have an 06 Ram 1500
You can just unclip airbox, unscrew the 2 bolts and take out the whole thing in one unit. Leave the filter in the bottom of air box to hold your tools. While your in there clean or replace the pcv valve and when done replace the air filter.
I place my tools on the air cleaner all the time. Probably not the cleanest way but it damn sure is convenient.
Thanks excellent video and explanation blessings.🤗
I was just in there cleaning mine, leaving the bottom half of the air box gives you a good spot to set tools and stuff on and doesn't get in the way.

It's more of messing with the screws on the throttle blade because they are calibrated but it's best to have a trust worthy mechanic deal with it
