    -----------------------------------------------
We all know how car makers sell their sub-safety standard cars in INDIA, and when it comes to unsafe cars, Maruti Suzuki has always been the winner.
and it happened because Global NCAP wasn't impactful enough to summon unsafe car makers or drag them to testing centers.
However, soon things will be different and each and every car maker will produce high-class international quality cars in INDIA as well, and this change will be the result of the New Bharat NCAP Integration.

There are 30 different companies in IND that sell insurance....biggest is LIC. Good way to setup NCAP in India would be a joint collaboration of SAE (society of automotive engineers), Top Institutes / Hospitals and Developed and Funded by Ministry of Transport. These kinds of big projects always need govt support.

So technically Premium of bike should be more than Cars since Bikes are no where near as safe as even low grade car.
This rule will just make cars more expensive. Infact government should give some sort of incentive to build safer cars.

Not keeping it mandatory is actually genius. A car brand that voluntarily sends their cars for testing is simply saying "You can trust us". Mandatory would've meant it would've affected the automotive industry in a bad way. But now people can make choice based on two things 1)Safety (obviously) 2) Good will of the brand

  • @balsbravo
    @balsbravo 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +94

In India, a manufacturer can manipulate the safety test results easily because our system is too much corrupt. Also, the facility, dedication and honesty of the people running the testing centre is also questionable as it is evident while observing working style of other Govt departments. So not much hope.

@@fmssmf9202 Bro, it is always manipulated in almost all fields be it cars, food products, civil constructions. A complete ecosystem exists. Haven't u seen near Diwali, nautanki by our food adulteration department but the reality is that they don't have even will and infrastructure to test adulteration in even Maggi. 90 % of milk we drink is adulterated.
Every brand is certified by Govt deptt but still intoxicated with lot harmful substances.
Govt take cognizance only when the matter comes in media. And our media is 100% bikau. Still let's have hope that things get better.
Moreover, it's our people who don't care for quality and safety in anything. We easily make compromises and adjustment, it's in our blood now. Maruti is selling 1.5 lac cars per month making tin ka dabbas whereas Tata has just managed to reach 47K despite making better safety cars.

Apart from safety, NCAP is playing the part of an added USP for many brands in our country. I went to 2 Tata motors showroom near my house to look for purchasing a new car. At both places, the sales reps talks about safety only and not other features. So this NCAP rating is actually helping Cars of Tata Motors towards a bigger sell.
We can see clearly that Maruti has lost its place in the " Cars above 10 lakh" segment. This segment will clearly not compromise on safety at all.

I dont think Bharat Ncap will bring any drastic changes in sales of cars in India. Being passed in this test is not just enough for a car, the buyer assess the reliability service availablity and so many other factors before buying. The 90% consumer base in India is from rural and semi urban segment who drive the cars for essential needs and drive very carefully are least bothered about Ncap rating. India is a country that moves and survives on bikes autos and small cars.

I think there should be certain standards set where a basic car safety parameter has to be met in order to sell the vehicle. There has to be some quality checks by an agency preferably an independent one supported by government to test these parameters and ncap ratings should be optimized by allowing only those cars to be sold whose rating crosses atleast 75% of the given parameters. ADAS, ABS, Airbags (passenger), cameras etc should be available as a standard safety gear in all cars irrespective of the price or segment.

We already had AIS standards for vehicles. In that we don't have a luggage retention test mandatory which is a must in the European & North America region. This prevents rear impact injuries. Bharat NCAP is just a safety rating just the same as EURO/Latin/ Asian NCAP which are not mandatory but extra requirements . In AIS only we need to introduce the same tests as European ECE or FMVSS stringent test standards .

Car companies must ensure a minimum 2* rating. Less than that should not be permitted sales.
Insurance premiums should be higher for less than 2* ratings.
The star ratings should be on Indian road speed limits.
Bharat Ncap should be mandatory for sales in India.
For international sales, car manufacturers can decide which region Ncap they test with.
ADAS should be mandatory in 3* or more cars.
I saw some comments on the potential for corruption in the Bharat Ncap system. I think that's not fair till it's put in practice and the results evaluated over a 3-year period.

No need to madate that you need a certain star at least to sell a car. Just mandate that every car sold has to take the test. Let people have the option to buy a cheap and unsafe car if they want. Just let them know it is unsafe.

Very informative video. Definatly you have good knowledge of safety ratings and standards. However India is different in few aspects from European countries. India has 3% penetration of cars compared to over 60% in many european countries. Companies like Maruti are targeting customers who are currently using 2 wheelers. Putting mandate on BNCAP will lead to significant increase in car prices especially for entry segment cars. This will raise a barrier for those who are willing to move from 2 wheelers to cars and in my opinion irrespective of safety ratings a car is safer than any two wheeler out there. However surely safety ratings can be enforced for higher segment vehicles.

I am ok with spending a little more money while buying a car. Companies can have cost distribution of testing on consumers as well. This way it will be a win-win for both seller and buyer in terms of safety. Great informative video though!

It is a step in the right direction. Now, even if it is not mandatory to get your cars tested, 5-6 years down the line, if there's a manufacturer boasting of 4-5 star safety rating on every car, while some other manufacturer is not sending it's cars for testing at all, I believe the Indian customer will receive the message loud and clear. Already, I see people making the car's safety features a matter of consideration before deciding which vehicle to buy. Furthermore, a person who buys a zero star rated car, but was earlier travelling with 2 wheelers, is automatically getting increased safety nonetheless. Mandatory safety testing will increase the cost of cars across the board, and further alienate the lower income group from the car market.

Lower ceiling cant be mandatory...as it will hamper growing business sentiment and ease of doing business...it is on us, the consumers to be more aware and matured to choose only safest and five star rated cars..
