In October 2019, two scientific reports were out. Both of them talked about how North Indians and South Indians came to the Indian subcontinent and threw light on the Aryan Invasion Theory. But how different media houses projected the findings was interesting.
While one side said Aryan Invasion Theory has been debunked and all the Indians came to India at once, the other side claimed the theory has been upheld and South Indians and North Indians have originated differently.
The truth lies somewhere in between. We dug out the findings of the papers to understand how humans actually came to India, are South Indians and North Indians different genetically and how politics has been complicating our understanding of India's evolution.

Thank you for the references. I just don't get why many Indians can't accept the simple fact that people throughout history have migrated to different places. Migration isn't a recent phenomenon, it's an inherent trait of being human. That's how we adapted & survived for so long!!

it does not matter for me also, but i need to reply to those who spread either wrong information for some political agenda or any other kind of gain. An influencer should not spread his opinion with any kind of biasness . I am only replying because these theories that our ancestors came from some other place and made us civilised (which is wrong) brings some kind of inferiority complex to Indians . These theories where planted in Indian people's minds by the British during there rule . And now these theories are promoted by west to show themselves superior . These superior feeling of the west started the world war 2 by Hitler (he believed German to be superior race) and now these theories promote racism in west . Indians and other south asian peoples suffers a lot due to this . A very few research has been made by our Archaeological survey of India about our history and culture and that is why we do not have proper evidence about our rich culture of old times.
Also these theories are made to divide India into many parts . And this is mainly done by the west, who do not want a powerful India again which will replace the west again as a global super power.
These statements that south Indian genes are different from North Indian are completely wrong . First of all south and north are just directions . and secondly there are Scientifically proven evidences that the genes are same and there is the colour difference just because of the distance from the equator . when we live very near to the equator we get a lot of uv rays from sun which can lead to cancer and other diseases thats why our body produces more amount of melanin which makes dark protective layer on our skin to protect from extra uv rays.
At least we should know the actual history and should not be influenced by some wrong or biased theories.
By the way I also leave in Tinsukia, Assam, India

Indeed there's no doubt that there's mixture , since we see Meghwal is has more ANI ratio than UCs of Southern India but at the end , it's the caste which frames this society , UCs ( military caste) of South India might have less ANI ratio than Meghwal ( reason - the former is a military caste) but the former has more than it's counterparts of Southern India , the Namboodris have more than them , hence it's decides which caste can rule , ultimately it's the ANI (the Aryan culture) in the blood which decided who can rule. Aryan Invasion can't be brushed under the carpet like anything.

Actually the history that we were taught was taught in a black and white manner. We were told only one side of the story that fitted the left narrative. We were never told that it's a grey area. The Aryan Invasion Theory is false, but there was definitely a migration of Indo-Iranians as well as Dravidians into the sub-continent, it's just not as violent as we think. There was likely a lot of peaceful relations between the two people groups, since there is some significant Dravidian influence like retroflex consonants in Rigvedic Sanskrit that is not found in any other IE languages.

Today's Southern Indian and Northern Indian languages are written in Brahmi scripts, Brahmi scripts were invented about 2,500 years ago. The Indus valley script is lost to time. Just because it is written from right to left, you cannot say that it isn't related to Southern Indian languages. Even, Arabic is written from right to left, so, will you say that Indus valley language is related to Arabic?

What I smell in your comment is a latent dissatisfaction with the facts presented in the video. Your imploration for a separate research conducted by 'Indian' scientists suggests that you downplay all the archaeological and biological evidences put forth by the researchers of the west. Now I understand that we Indians tend to respect our research better, but we also tend to forget more often than not that what others do is more likely to be bias free, especially in matters as sensitive to our sense of identity and belonging like these. An average researcher from the west is least likely to interpret the data with an implicit bias because whatever the conclusion of his findings be, it has no bearing on his sense of identity. You could see in the video itself that two Indian researchers working together and publishing at the same time couldn't agree about the languages of the Indus valley civilization. What could be a possible reason? Well, simply realising that the matter is sensitive and that for very many Indians, even the researchers themselves, it will be disheartening to come to terms with some conclusions of the findings. Now, obviously the current government will some day 'fund' an investigation and maybe you'll have results being published, but tell me honestly, will you be able to judge that the researches 'funded' by government like the extreme right BJP can ever be free of bias?

I checked my Maternal haplogroup which traces back to Mitochondrial Eve then Group L migrates from Africa to Middle east 200,000 years ago which branches off into N and R and the offshoots of Group R are Group U which migrated to different parts of Europe, Central Asia and India. The haplogroup U2b traces back to the original inhabitants of the Indus River valley which explains the 43% North Indian ancestry.

Actually, I read somewhere that Aryan Invasion Theory was basically created because the British did not want to attribute that Indians who they considered an inferior, ugly race could have created or written Vedas and other evolved texts. Macaulay was very influenced by Indian texts but wanted us to think of ourselves as inferior. Originally as per British it was not North Indians, Aryans were a white European race, since obviously only White people are capable. At some point it shifted to North vs. South - not sure because of politicians or our own internal racism. Today, the south states and leftists hold on to this Aryan Invasion theory because they want to sow separatist ideas in south. The only exception being brahmins according to them. So it has gone to the extent of attributing different castes of being different race. The Hindu is part of left wing media outlet so their headline is not surprising. Also, why aren't we willing to acknowledge the role of Islamic invasions in why North Indians look the way they do. Infact, even if you look at tamils in India, they look much more mixed compared to tamils in sri Lanka or Malaysia who are more homogeneous. It only takes 1-2 generations of mixing a population for appearance to change.

    PUZZLE...
If Aryan migration (to India) proposal is plausible, how come the population that, apparently, moved to South Asia and composed the Vedas, did not leave a trail of similar, if not identical teachings and/or customs elsewhere on the Eurasian continent?
Given that, Vedic culture was orally passed on through generations, fragments of the population should have carried easily recognisable cultural features such as teachings and customs to multiple locations, as a consequence of presumed splits.
Would it not be reasonable to assume, there should be conclusive evidence of strong cultural associations to be found elsewhere on the Eurasian continent?

Minor Fact checks - (1) Filippo Sassetti - a Portuguese traveller was the first one to highlight the similarities between Indian languages and European languages. He did that several Hundred years before William Jones. (2) Parsees and Iranis were fleeing Islamist persecution and they were welcomed by Hindus of this country. (3) The map of Indus Valley Civilisation is incorrect as the actual spread of IVC is much much larger in the subcontinent.

14411 is a male skeleton. His Y dna haplogroup was H which again is native indian hunter gatherer marker. Male closest to his affinity are found in South indian tribal community. The thing is when they were excavating in Rakhigari they could recover both female and and male skeleton for genetic testing. The female one was done by indian archaeologists but male one was in most likely korea (I could be wrong here though). In mainstream media only the rakhigari female ancestry is highlighted but not male one. The very reason is, almost all genetic research done on this topic agrees upon the fact that the aryan migration that happened in india were predominantly male. They brought little to no females with them. So, the sudden change in Y dna haplogroup (native male vs aryan male) actually reinforces the controversy back to square one.
It is evident that in every video, article on this topic, the ancestry of rakhigari female is highlighted but rakhigari male's one is never ever discussed or mentioned.

@@lifa7660 interesting! Haplogroup H shows maximum diversity in our subcontinent showing that it originated in India but same is the case for R1a1 and R1b both of them show maximum diversity in Indian subcontinent and genetics it's the diversity that indicates the origin not the concentration. That just made me sceptical about AMT again then I saw the research paper referred by Mr Joseph i.e. of Mr Reich's work with 92 scientist. The conclusions were interesting but again the papers were non peer reviewed and none of the journals accepted as it had lot of circular arguments and methodologically incorrect! The research papers showing that rakhigarhi male specimen had Haplogroup H is true and the work done by the scientists is something that should be appreciated. But when it comes to the research on topic of 'Origin of Haplogroup R1a1 and R1b' there are no valid research (peer reviewed) that shows it originated in central Asian region.
This was out of pure genetics perspective. The linguistic and cultural arguments that AMT provides can be countered in multiple ways but genetics is the key for understanding the truth i believe.

I disagree with the bit where you said Indians stopped marrying outside their caste 1900 years ago during Gupta period because Vedic religion became popular. First of all the vedic religion has been popular for atleast 4000 years, also Gupta rule didn't even exist 1900 years ago. The most recent study says that endogamy started in India around 1570 years ago during the Gupta period and has more to do with the fact that, India was most prosperous during this period and family occupations had started to develop, so carpenter would only marry a carpenter to make sure that the skill of carpentry continues over the generations.

I think you totally missed the point of evolution. Indians had evolved skin pigments in this period of 9,000 years. The skin color acquired by you at the time of birth is your "genetic skin color." But that gets tanned due to melanin(secreted by skin pigments) when you're a bit older. This is the result of evolution.
And, I too had blonde hair and Hazel eyes at the time of my birth. Same is the case with most of the babies in my community. But with time these features get vanished.

THE ARYAN INVASION THEORY IS A MYTH.
Usually there is more diversity in the genes from where the genes originates from, which is India.
The Aryans are claimed to have the R1a gene as they are said to be from the central plains, now the thing is that using genetic research we find that there are a lot of problems with the Aryan invasion theory, other points include the dating of Saraswati river and its correlation with the Vedas, ancient underground cities found in Gujarat that date back further than the Indus Valley civilisation (Gulf of Khambhat) etc. But these are the factual points.
Also R1a itself is a subclade of the R haplogroup whose ancestors trace back to F haplogroup and all the way up to haplogroup CF which was undeniably from south-Asia most likely India. Haplogroup F was undeniably from India and the Dravidians carry this gene too so this Arian Migration theory is actually just a garbage theory. (source: Underhill PA, Kivisild T (2007). "Use of Y chromosome and mitochondrial DNA population structure in tracing human migrations". Annu. Rev. Genet. 41: 539-64. doi:10.1146/annurev.genet.41.110306.130407. PMID 18076332.)
The haplogroup is said to be from south-Asia close to the Indus valley(source: Karafet, Tatiana; et al. (2008). "New binary polymorphisms reshape and increase resolution of the human Y chromosomal haplogroup tree". Genome Research. 18 (5): 830-8. doi:10.1101/gr.7172008. PMC 2336805. PMID 18385274.)
The ancestors of the R1a haplogroup is 100% from India (source :Sengupta, Sanghamitra; et al. (2006). "Polarity and Temporality of High-Resolution Y-Chromosome Distributions in India Identify Both Indigenous and Exogenous Expansions and Reveal Minor Genetic Influence of Central Asian Pastoralists". The American Journal of Human Genetics. 78 (2): 202-21. doi:10.1086/499411. PMC 1380230. PMID 16400607.)
It is very rare for diversified gene group to re-enter the same place again unless it diversified in that place itself. In fact even if R1a is of foreign origins its ancestors are definitely Indian therefore an Invasion is very unlikely.
I have also see a more qualified professor than most named Dr. David Reich who once said that R1a was from central Asia but in recent articles after more research EVEN HE ADMITS THAT THE R1A MIGHT ACTUALLY BE FROM SOUTH-ASIA.
Dr. David Reich: “ The impermeability of Anatolia to exogenous migration contrasts with our finding that the Yamnaya had two distinct gene flows, both from West Asia, suggesting that the Indo-Anatolian language family originated in the eastern wing of the Southern Arc and that the steppe served only as a secondary staging area of Indo-European language dispersal.” (source: Lecture by Prof. David Reich - "The Genetic History of the Southern Arc: A Bridge between West Asia & Europe" | Israel Institute for Advanced Studies (huji.ac.il))
So the R1a coming from central Asia and invading India is highly unlikely. The central Asian plains were just a second step from the original place of origin which was south-Asia.
