Great stuff - I'm a veteran 3DS Max user (been using it since the mid-90's and am 60 years old) - I still love 3D to this day and am learning Blender, thanks to you! (also, Blender has become a lot more user friendly than when I first dabbled with it a few years ago). Thank you so much!
😊 Same here. Though I started with 3DStudio (DOS 3.3) all the way to 3DS MAX all the versions. Looking at 3D after nearly 20 years. Just learning Blender. Great stuff & great tuts.
Honestly, the timing for this tutorial series couldn’t be more perfect. I just bought a new computer to use for blender a few days ago, and I downloaded blender yesterday, and then I noticed that Andrew just updated his tutorial series and I was really happy because it meant I could get started right away.
I've been a designer for ~20 years, got started in graphic design then went to web & digital, then UX for the last 10 years, but decided I wanted to learn 3d. I've taken several courses to learn different things over the years, and have relied heavily on UGC and places like Udemy for probably the last 8-10 years. You're one of the best teachers I've come across, Kudos.

So there are a couple of errors happening in the new versions of blender when you go to texture paint 1) Alot of people said their donut was pink. This is because for some reason blender automatically takes the image texture as the Poliigon normal stone texture. I dont know why but just go to the drop down and change it to the Donut Base texture. 2) In the newest update of Blender, paint hard is set as default. To fix this, in the 2nd split screen where your donut is visible, look at the top left. There will be a "paint hard only" dropdown. Select it and choose paint soft in that menu. 3)In the textures, if you cant find the COL texture, its because its now known as the "COLOUR" texture. Lastly, dont forget to turn off snapping and proportional editing before this tutorial.
hey buddies, my computer can't handle it from here! It was indeed a nice journey! I hope you guys can keep with the work! Great work by the way, Blender Guru! I mean... Master! :)

For those having problems when texture painting, such as the brush strokes painting on the back of the selected face, be sure that your normals are on the correct side, to recalculate them select the model (in this case, the base of the donut), go into edit mode (with Tab), select all vertices (with A), then select the voice "Mesh" under the workspaces bar, then from the menu that opens after clicking it, search and find the voice "Normals" (also opened with the shortcut Alt+N), from the menu that further opens after clicking the Normal voice select "Recalculate Outside" (also done with Shift+N). After doing all of this you can resume with the texture painting, if you still have the problem, try flipping the Normals (also done in the same menu that you went to recalculate the outside normals - Alt + N), another tip that I discovered while fixing my normals, is that they are on the correct side when, while painting on the image texture, a grid appears just like in the video of Andrew. Keep going brothers and sisters, for this is just a pebble in your path. P.s. Sorry for eventual grammar errors, english isn't my first language.
Just to add to that, under the overlay options you can check the 'overlay orientation' box and it will tell you which way the mesh face is pointed. If it's blue that means it's facing outside, and if it's red that means it's facing inside.

Just thought I'd drop a note to let you know someone else has made it this far. It is taking me longer and longer to go through each section because I am now watching each section in its entirety before I attempt anything (after rewinding) and it definitely helped. Anyway, thanks for the tutorials; they have been fun and challenging.

@@Smeeshty lmao! np, atleast now you know. Also its nice to know that you made it alive to the render animation step. Im still on the geometry nodes part and im already stressing out haha
For beginners, this part is mostly the reason why guys leave learning blender cause of the complexity of nodes and all that stuff going around. Last year too I tried to learn blender, but due to personal work and reasons I couldn't make past this section due to the more complex elements in this part. I hope this year I will overcome this part and successfully make a donut in Blender.
Yeah nodes are also the hardest part for me too. What makes nodes less scary to me is thinking of the nodes as solutions to problems. Like for example if I want to rotate an object then the solution would be to find a node that can do rotation. Then keep building the nodes by finding the solution to the next problem you have. The tricky part is to learn which node does what. Ehh might be a bit confusing but this is how I think of it.
0:13 is a must for all people watching that are learning so much from your videos. Blender has tons of videos but not all are easy to follow and simplistic as yours. Thanks
If you had problems like I did for hours at 17:00 coz the strokes werent showing.... here is a solution which helped me Go to Texture Paint Mode: Click on the mode dropdown in the top left corner of the 3D Viewport and select Texture Paint. Find the Brush Settings: On the right side of the screen, look for the Active Tool tab (it looks like a brush icon). If you can't see it, you can also find these settings in the top bar where the brush options are located when you're in Texture Paint mode. Turn Off the Mask or Stencil: Look for the section that says Texture or Texture Mask. If there's a picture or texture shown there, click the little X button to remove it. This will make sure nothing is blocking your paint strokes.

solution for invisible texture paint strokes copied from blender 3.0 donut video: If anyone is having issues with no strokes being visible when attempting to paint, check under the Tex Draw properties tab on the far right. Under texture, there should be a checkerboard pattern. If a black square is there instead, delete that texture. The checkerboard should now be visible, as should your strokes when you begin to paint.
Thanks for the tip, but that's still not doing it for me. Somehow, Andrew ended up with the grid pattern on the left view, and I lost that somewhere. Also on the right view, next to the Material icon on the rop row for that view, I'm seeing "Texture Slots" instead of donut base. When I try to paint I get "Missing texture (or linked) detected"

hey, small tip from a beginner (like, didn't know how to rotate the angle of the screen level of beginner) every time you start one of these videos make the donut from scratch. It's helped me so much and every donut I've made has steadily improved.
If you're following this tutorial but your object goes black when you turn on Material Preview/ Viewport Shading instead of showing the colour of the material, here's what helped me, found in a TH-cam video: Go to Render Properties in the column of icons to the right. Looks like the back of a DSLR camera. Make sure Render Engine is set to EEVEE, then enable Raytracing and set Max Roughness to 1. I don't understand why this works, but it seems to. I worry that enabling Raytracing is going to make it slow with more complicated scenes, so if anyone has a different solution, please let me know! I'm on Blender 4.2.3 for reference.
This didnt work for some reason for me, maybe my laptop is too weak (i3 5005u), I switched off rt and put the eevee to workbench and now I can colour it in, thank you for the tip though because I wouldnt have even gotten to try the mode I did

Yes

TH-cam recommends any new video I just click it, did my first donut 5 years ago and still watch it. It is like homecoming for me
Not me. But I’m kearning
Ngl. I was using blender since 2.54. and improvement is massive.
Completely agree. This version of Blender is MUCH easier to use than early ones (my first attempt was in 1996...)
I just bought a new computer to use for blender a few days ago, and I downloaded blender yesterday, and then I noticed that Andrew just updated his tutorial series and I was really happy because it meant I could get started right away.
haha me too, caught with the timing just bought a laptop.

WOW, I didn't realize how much of an entrepreneur you were! Congratz on the website and the TH-cam channel success. I'm a C.S. student entering my bachelor's program and I'm learning blender in my free time to complement my programming skills. Thank you so much for all of this free content!
So there are a couple of errors happening in the new versions of blender when you go to texture paint
1) Alot of people said their donut was pink.
I mean... Master! :)

Recently switched from 3ds max (after 7 years) and now learning Blender. Amazed by all the tools that ive found so far, and incredible helpful series!
Nothing happens when i paint lol

Thanks

If you had problems like I did for hours at 17:00 coz the strokes werent showing.... here is a solution which helped me
Go to Texture Paint Mode:
Click on the mode dropdown in the top left corner of the 3D Viewport and select Texture Paint.
Find the Brush Settings:
On the right side of the screen, look for the Active Tool tab (it looks like a brush icon).
If you can't see it, you can also find these settings in the top bar where the brush options are located when you're in Texture Paint mode.
Turn Off the Mask or Stencil:
Look for the section that says Texture or Texture Mask.
If there's a picture or texture shown there, click the little X button to remove it.
This will make sure nothing is blocking your paint strokes.

solution for invisible texture paint strokes copied from blender 3.0 donut video:
If anyone is having issues with no strokes being visible when attempting to paint, check under the Tex Draw properties tab on the far right. Under texture, there should be a checkerboard pattern. If a black square is there instead, delete that texture. The checkerboard should now be visible, as should your strokes when you begin to paint.
