Anyone struggling with slow zoom and panning after shrinking the Donut, it's a pretty easy fix.
Go to Edit --> Preferences --> Navigation, then under auto check Depth. This should make your actions scale properly to your zoom and make navigation feel the same as with the bigger donut.

If you happen to be following this tutorial, and you're at about 5:30, and you're wondering why the ball doesn't appear for you the same way it does for him, as well as why the menu is different... It's because your mouse cursor need to be in the viewport segment, NOT in the geometry nodes segment. I didn't even realize it could matter, but had to rewatch a couple times to figure it out

edit: If anyone has very large sprinkles after scaling down, go to geometry nods then on the lower part of the screen w/ the node tables, find "instance on points" and under scale set xyz to 0.1 after that you can set a higher density for sprinkles

GEOMETRY NODES - at 7:41 I actually had to attach the "Object Info" scale output to the "Instance on Points" scale input for this to work properly. Otherwise, I got HUGE spheres all over my donut. My first thought was to click "relative" in the "Object Info" node and that fixed the scaling issue but all of the sprinkle spheres were offset in a bad position.

One small feedback item I have is that it would be helpful for you to verbalize some quick movements you do. I know it shows most of your actions on the bottom of the screen but if you are quickly using hotkeys to swap views, or change modes, or go full screen, or back to geometry nodes its helpful to tell us what you are clicking as a reminder. Example: I had to click back a few times at 16:52 I had to watch a few times to see how you brought up the option to name the input.
Thanks for the great course just trying to put in my 2 cents as a beginner designer following along!

If anyone is struggling with oversized sprinkles at 7:39, you have two solutions:
1: In the "Instances on Points" node, you can use the "scale" option to make them much smaller (play around with the values until you find what you like!).
2: In the "Object Info" (OI) node, you can attach the "Scale" node for OI into the "Instances on Point" scale node.

side note for anyone maybe thinking about using the multiple doughnut idea...
its a good idea to also link the "seed" value to the Group output node. although the amount of sprinkles changes, changing the orientation of the sprinkles does just as much, if not more to make em look random. (with the seed value just radomizing what random you get in that specific instance)

A really useful information when working with Geometry Nodes is that you can:
    1. Open a new window and select the Text Editor
    2. Create a new Text
    3. Add a "frame" to your Geometry Nodes
    4. Press "N" and click "Node" on the right side of your Geometry Nodes window
    5. Click on "Text: " and select the Text you have just created in the Text Editor
Congrats! You can now write comments in your Geometry Nodes window. It is a really useful feature, especially when learning Blender, so you dont get confused with all your nodes. Just write down what all your nodes are there for.
    Bonus:
    6. You can drag your nodes into the frame to make it more clear what comment is for what node.
    7. Above the "Text: " button is a little checkmark, deselect that so you can freely adjust the size of your frame.
    8. Color your frames for an even clearer sorting.

at 12:25, when I first attempted to do the named attribute node, I made the node after renaming the vertex group but when I clicked the box to bring up the pop up menu, nothing appeared in the menu, it was completely blank. With spherical sprinkles it's very easy to do an exactly correct minimum distance if you do not want any overlap, which is just twice the radius of your spheres, so if you use a radius of 0.01 for the sphere, just use a distance of 0.02 for the min distance. Of course once you do the elongated sprinkles, that's no longer going to be true

Lol Andrew, just wanted to let you know on 18:50 when you scaled the donut, the reason it was scaling incorrectly was because you had your pivot point set to median point (it takes the average origins and scale their locations). Change your pivot point right above your view port next to global. You can use the 3d curse pivot or the active element, which acts like a child parent relationship.
I know you knew this. Probably just forgot.

I made my donut around .09m in diameter (more like a bundt cake than a donut) and the sprinkles are an issue, even though they're .002m. I noticed when I followed his instructions for distribution points on face and increased the density, there were still no points visible. Everytime I try one of his tutorials, something cursed happens that hardly anyone else, or no one else is experiencing and I don't know how to fix it.
Edit: He does the 4.0 tutorial different than the previous ones. Didnt think he would scale it down later in the tutorial. Guess I should start over and actually follow instructions😅

It seems there are two ways to add an UV Sphere, but only one which actually makes sense and works.
The way he shows is when being in Object Mode and, this is important, have the UPPER part of the window active (e.g. when you just click on the Donut or the plane). This way you get the same menu as shown in the video and the UV Sphere will be added into the "Scene collection" where you also have the Donut, icing, light, camera, and plane.
When I tried it, the bottom part of the window (the one with the nodes) was active, and it shows a slightly different menu where the UV Sphere is located at "Mesh - Primitives - UV Sphere". Someone would say: Who cares? Must be same, no? No.
This way the UV Sphere will be added directly as a NODE but NOT as an OBJECT, like in the video. For some reason, this has some effect, as later on I cant smooth the sprinkles.
This is completely counterintuitive, as everything happens in the node section, except this particular action.

you can go on layout, do edit mode, select the icing, do alt+h or go on "mesh" (at the bottom of modeling) and go on "show/hide" and do "reveal the hiden"

This series is very good and focused on high quality realistic scenes. I can tell you really mastered this as you know the solution to every special case issue that arises.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, well done.

Imagine it was a real donut it could save you from buying donuts a long time (if ur American that’s like 472 inches)

When I add points using geometry nodes I get one giant point and my icing disappears. I was able to bring back my icing just by following the tutorial but not the sprinkle's size

same problem here. I only get giant points but not small ones, thought it was the scale but no. IDK why this is happening

Had the same issue, just ignore it for a bit. He created the UV sphere 6:32 and used it as a reference. You can just set the small scale and you should be good.

    • @daehwankim4246

Same issue. I think the issue is probably because we have followed or remembered Blender 3.0 donut tutorials and scaled donut to be in real world scale before reaching this point. Just like @markoburak6549 says, ignore it for a moment and continue watching the video then we should be fine.

It's been almost a week that I found your channel and I'm on my half way of making my 1st donut. I already subcribe your channel, so today I want to comment. Thanks a lot, your channel is a perfect tutorial, easy to understand by telling me what to do step by step as a beginner, not like other channel that don't describe what the used of each thing in blender, and they're so fast for me to see what are they clicking. Thanks also for the Poliigon website that you created free to use for someone who's still stuck at making money to buy a professional software that cost a lot of penny. God bless you sir. 👍🏼

Thanks for another great lesson. This felt a bit more challenging than the last few simply because of the number of nodes used. I like how you demonstrated the versatility of nodes.
