  • The work continues! This is Episode 9 of my Project Failblazer Series featuring my 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT. In this video I clean up the filthy valve cover and intake. The carbon build up in this thing is atrocious! I install a new valve cover gasket as well as gaskets for the intake and throttle body. I put a fresh set of plugs in and installed a new fuel pressure regulator. After all of that, I took on the tedious chore of putting everything back together. Will she fire up? How will it run? Watch the video to find out! Check out Episode 8 to see how we got to this point, if you haven't already: • Project Failblazer Epi...

No oil in my plugs cavities. Replaced plugs, coils and throttle body. (Suppposed to use throttle body and intake cleaner. Carb cleaner will mess with tbe catalytic converter) Made sur Cat was clean. Still runs like garbage. Do you think gaskets or bad valve? This is also replacing fan clutch and waterpump.

Maybe I have that fuel regulator bad diaphragm problem - I started using MMO and now I noticed two distinct "stains" on the intake manifold cover - I didn't check it out really. I have lifter tick - so maybe the upper cylinder lubrication of MMO is creating the stains.

My 2003 4.2 had the same symptoms yours had that you explained in the last video. As I was changing the spark plugs, I hit a generous amount of oil in cylinder 3 i began research and then found your video series. I watched both parts multiple times and hand wrote notes in my journal to memorize the process. It is now Sunday night i have completed up to torquing the intake manifold and throttle body down. As I have a little bit of work left, I know im in the home stretch. A big thank you to you for filming this process and saving me over a grand while helping me learn this vehicle.

Had a tree land on my Trailblazer hood, which landed right on the oil inlet of the valve cover, which broke it. Not to mention my hood and both fenders are crunched badly. So, came on TH-cam to search out how to get the valve cover off...and you pop up with exactly what I needed! I'll get on Rock Island parts for the gaskets. The junkyard valve cover cost me$54, so if I'm successful with this part of repairing my '03 Trailblazer, I'll spend out the Dollars for the body parts. I was hoping I wouldn't have to remove intake but sorta guessed it was going to be part of the repair. Thanks for the video.

Find any oil in the intake? As I'm typing I see you did. GM F-ED up their fancy once piece Valve Cover / PCV. The orifice was a bit excessive to the point its sucking the engine dry of oil. My first encounter with that issue was WTF... Seeing more and more GM with REV A built in PCV (really should be called port and not a valve lol). Either get the updated valve cover or drill a bunch of holes on that plate leading to the port to allow oil to drain as much as it can before to the port and prevents it from acting like a vac. Could make a plug in the hose to restrict the flow PCV > Hose > Plug round metal same OD as hose ID with smaller hole > Hose good times.
