I vaguely remember something about 4 years being important in Mexican cultural beliefs. You'll note that the Land of the Dead takes a lot of cues from Mexican culture, including names. Of course, I could be wrong on much of this, but it's what I remember hearing at the time.
@@Rognik I think the closest thing to anything related to the number 4 on Día de Muertos has to be the four candlesticks, arranged in a cross to represent the four cardinal directions, to help the soul find their way home
Ya know I like how Ben made all the cutscenes more chaotic my adding and I think speeding up Minecraft skeleton noises in the cutscenes plus the voice he used just made it perfect
I lost it at hearing your dramatic renditions, the skeleton sounds were the cherry on top. This was a really fun one to watch, the game seems really interesting too so I'm looking forward to the next one.
7:30, to be fair with the lock thing, the point and click control was added to the remastered, in theoriginal you just had tank controls so you had to get close to interact with it. So it´s more a glitch/oversight when implementing the point and click interface
woah! this game has a sick style and animation, love it! and the story has me veryyyy intrigued!! also, that was some top notch voice acting there, absolutely stunning i love the monotone voice, the yells and the amazing wonderful skeleton noises
I remember watching my sister play this game as a kid and we were always stuck at the beginning, very interesting to see what I missed this entire time! Can't wait to see you cover the next chapter! :)
16:00 I've played this game for years, both the original and the remastered version, and I have NEVER seen that bug! It's kinda creepy; it's something I'd see in a dream about playing GF, or something 😮 Aside from that, I love your video on GF, I'm always happy to find newcomers for an old classic! 💖
I don't think I'll ever get tired of your commentary, even if I know I'll never play the games and have no need to know their storylines. There's just something about old games and the people playing them that interests me. Never stop doing what you're doing!
Hi! Im doing a streamed Grim Fandango playthrough using OBS, if you need to record audio, you can always record your full desktop, that way it recognizes the audio. Hope this helps.
I made the mistake of playing Minecraft while I watched this Once I realized that the skeletons weren’t on my end I laughed out loud-very entertaining watch!
2:26 it means Manny was told to go to the land of the living and find a good client that was killed by the poisoning as there were so many victims they can't assign each individual reaper (travel agent) an individual client so like the boss said "first come first serve"
this is great, I love the going through games other than horror ones, those are awesome too, but the way you do it is so satisfying and interesting, I cant wait to see if you end up doing more of this game, I also want to see if you'll do the rest of the Sly Cooper games as well.
Excrutiatingly underrated game. It was one of my absolute favorites as a little kid even though I've never really been into story-driven games, and it still holds up just as much today to me personally. It was one of the very rare games from that era that actually got an official localization in Brazil, and it had full voice acting and everything which was even rarer, and all this in brazilian portuguese too instead of european portuguese, which is mind-blowing (and the voice acting was actually really good!). Games only started getting frequently localized here in the 2010's. So most games at the time, especially story and puzzle-centric games like Final Fantasy and Resident Evil were pretty inaccessible to the vast majority of brazilian kids that didn't understand a word of english, but that didn't stop anyone from playing, so printing out walkthroughs was common practice. Because of that, having a game like this be fully localized meant a lot. As for the softlock, I'm not sure whether that's a remaster thing or if it also happened in the old version, as I have a faint memory of that happening to me back then but I could totally be misremembering it, so take that with a very big grain of salt, lol. Also, can't you just hold shift to run? And if I remember correctly, you can also use the arrow keys to move, and you can use a gamepad in the remaster (probably, since obviously you can use it on console). I have the PS4 version so I can't really speak on the PC remaster, but there's probably also a way to bind the movement keys to WASD if that's not already the case, so you could move and run with the left hand while having the freedom to use the mouse on the right hand. So I urge you to keep playing it as it is absolute gold from beginning to end, and don't be afraid to bust out a walkthrough if you're taking too long, as the puzzles don't get any less cryptic from here, trust me. But yeah, great video and production value despite the game's technical difficulties. Keep it up!
Is is always lovely to watch your videos! Loved your voiceover, and the honest frustration with the problems the game does have withouth embelishing or trying to justify them, but still transmiting the beauty in this classic. Your voice is very soothing and I like to listen to you after a long day like today, so thank you ^^ you made me feel better, keep being awesome!
I've heard quite a bit about this series but nothing of true substance. Thank you for taking the plunge and giving this a review. It was a lot of fun and I eagerly await the next part :D
It takes a minute to set up but if you install a virtual audio cable and then enable listen on it in Windows audio settings you can hear Discord without it actually entering the default source meaning you can desktop capture the audio and still balance your mic and discord separately
As a lover of skeletons in media, be they video game skeletons, movie skeletons, cartoon skeletons, or book skeletons, I CANNOT WAIT for your vid on Year 2
yes yes yes A hundred times yes Thank you so much for this I am looking foreward to the next part and do hope you can find a way to record the audio somehow I loved this game for so long and think it isn't talked about enough thank you great video
Love Grim Fandango and this was a solid video. Hope you figure out the audio issues and it's a shame that Remastered is such a shoddy port. If worse comes to worst you could always grab footage of the cutscenes from youtube and credit the uploader(s) possibly
Is this that “Undertale” game all the kids are talking about these days? In all seriousness: I’ve been getting back into point-n-click games lately, so it’s cool to see you covering Grim Fandango. Btw, have you played Machinarium? It’s got fantastic and charming art and animation. Thought you might be interested.
Idk if you plan on doing the rest of the game but please do! I like your video style and im too dumb to figure out half these puzzles myself and too impatient. But ive been waiting for someone to do some kind of video on this game for so longg

Hi Ben! Thanks for videos you make, I really enjoy them :) I would like to recommend a game, I don't know if you heard about it, but I think it'll be a banger. It's called "A child of Light"! It's about a girl, named Aurora and her story in the different world of hers. I think you'll like it :)?
I have mixed feelings about this game, it definitely has a personality, and I used a walk through just to get through it because oh boy. The story was ehhhh and I wish I could give it a thumbs up but its a bit too scrambled and feels like a fever dream. That being said, fever dreams aren't always bad if you just let your little light shine.
The skeleton noises, deadpan voiceover and sudden explosions get me every time. lmao
the voiceover was made better by the Minecraft skeleton sounds
The skeletor voice too much I like the tone back of it
The lurid enthusiasm of his voiceovers punctuated by an occasional louder, equally monotone emphasis is just what I expected from him.

"She was literally a saint of a human being when she was alive!!"
Manny: "Did you kill much when you were alive?"
Mercedes: *"VERY LITTLE"*
I mean maybe she lived in a post apocaliptic world and she only killed to protect herself and others from people like creazy murderrers and so on?
oh boy she still killed huh
I mean...she may have been including bugs

8:00 it does make sense that the lock is only from one side. After all, it's a lock and locks should only be openable on the interior. 💀
Those voiceovers are amazing! The game seems pretty fun story-wise. But the highlight of the video is totally the voiceovers.
Can’t wait to see the rest!

The voice acting isn’t bad, I think when he reviews a new game with no voice acting he can fill the roles and his friends can help too.

How's it going Ben?
I know Ben's avatar is 2D but I didn't think his delivery could be this flat.
