You should add an option for game devs. I'd recommend the new 13 inch 1.4ghz one with 16GB of RAM if you want portability and still be able to do what you need to do. If portability isn't a problem the best bang for your buck would probably be the 16 inch base model.

Great points here but I think in regards to #3, it’s an unfair comparison without mentioning why you’d might consider a 13” in the first place. Anyone eyeing a maxed out model should know they’re not getting the best of the best across the lineup, but they’re getting a much lighter and smaller form factor laptop. To suggest just getting a base 16” misses that point as for anyone that’s been able to hold one will know it’s a beast in terms of size in comparison.

I think your recommendation for students to get the Air/13 inch pro could be improved. My workflow isn't demanding (web, writing reports, reading text, online assignments), but I need the large display to fit multiple tabs on my screen at the same time - good luck doing that on a 13 inch. Sure, all I need in processing power is U processor and no integrated graphics, but I want a large display. So 16" is a valid choice for many more people than you suggest, it's not just for the high-performance crowd.

You go from 2.3 - turbo to 4.8.
    Best CPU - 2.4 turbo to 5.0.
You’re only getting .1 or .2 either end of performance spectrum.

I have a MBP 16 (base model) and now I wish I can return it. It has very serious thermal issues. The computer would frequently freeze due to overheating, sometimes even right after it boots up with no apps running in the background. The CPU load would go up to 100% easily because of overheating, and the fans would run at full speed. Even browsing the web would be very laggy. In fact a lot of times it is even underperforming my 2018 13" macbook pro. I did some research online and realized that this is actually a very common issue among all macbook pro 16 users. I know some people really love this macbook but I just want to tell people my experience so they know the risks before deciding to buy it. Don't base your entire buying decision on these TH-cam review videos. These videos are great but they mostly serve the purpose of entertainment. Instead do some thorough research on sites such as Apple's support forum and see what actual issues and frustrations other MBP 16 users are experiencing.

Another thing to keep in mind. Remember that the components aren't upgradable. You'll want to take that into account when purchasing. Especially if you're someone like me and aims for at least 4-5 years out of a machine before replacing it. So, going a bit higher now will help you long term. Yeah, it's more expensive, but assuming you want to keep it for longer, it'll help.

After paying under $250 to upgrade my old laptop to a 2TB SSD I could never consider paying anything near what Apple wants for SSD. Granted they are 4 times as fast, but most of their upgrades seem to be close to 2x what the underlying commodity price would be for similar specs. And you can't even upgrade it aftermarket to save, because everything is just chips soldered to a motherboard, which not only should be cheaper for Apple, but also makes it impossible for you to cost effectively replace should it fail out of warranty.

I think it's cute when non-programmers make recommendations for what to buy if you're a programmer. Don't take the advice in this video. Plain and simple, the screen real estate and better keyboard on the 16 inch MacBook Pro will maximize how much code and tooling can be on your screen at any one time, plus you'll type faster with fewer mistakes. This is especially important if you ever use Vim (which most programmers on macOS will eventually use) since it uses the escape key very frequently. As far as the other specs, it really depends on what kind of programming you're doing and how long you need the machine to last.

Wouldn't necessarily pick the 8GB GPU for video editing and rendering. If you have some extra bucks, you'll get a much bigger performance boost with an eGPU. So if you primarily use your MBP stationary, a Blackmagic eGPU is definitely worth considering. When I bought my MBP 16", I would have had to wait six weeks for the version with the 8GB VRAM, so instead I just took the basic 4GB VRAM GPU and added a Blackmagic eGPU and I actually have to say I'm quite happy with that choice. It's pretty damn fast. Only downside is that obviously it's more expensive than just picking the 8GB VRAM, but if you have enough money, it's absolutely worth it, in my opinion.
