Well, the issue with redstone is that the seperate machines are fairly simple in how they work. Aside of detection blocks, theyre not hard to understand since most redstone components are signal receivers or logic components.
Now, we also have confusing comparatprs and less confusing observers.
Tge thing is, it is logically easy on its own.
But just like logic contraptions, its the combinatiom of components and hiw they intetact that make redstone being so complicated

Redstone is incredible. So many things would never be possible that imagining the game without is almost un-fathomable to imagine the game without it. Redstone gives so much more creative freedom to the player than what would be normaly possible .Honestly I think that if it weren’t for redstone, Minecraft wouldn’t have become as popular as it is .I’m definitely no redstone pro but it’s still awesome to work with it, figure out its qwerks, build flying machines, sneaky traps, and to make fascinating creations with posable armor stands and minecarts and so much more is really cool . The future is definitely very bright with the introduction of the skulk sensor and the other skulk blocks which are likely to also have some redstone functions as well.

"Redstone repeaters were groundbreaking, as they could also act as a diode" @ 4:25
Fun fact, repeaters were called diodes in the decompiled MC server code until at least 1.8 and in latest versions the "combined name" of repeaters and comparators are diodes!

The Redstone Update solved an issue that I have with so many games that have storage like Terraria and Stardew Valley which is terrible storage management. Adding in more item transportation, automation and item filters while still being challenging and rewarding to design is one of the best things Minecraft has done imo. Ever since the addition of hoppers and comparators I've never been annoyed/frustrated at Minecraft's storage management ever again.. unlike Terraria, Stardew Valley and a few other games with a billion items. Also Shulker Boxes were an amazing additions too. The only thing this game does sorta lack is inventory management but storage is perfect in the game.

I think they should add gears back into the game. It would make it much easier for having a vertical way to send signals.
