Im surprised the Super Hostile series(or the CTM genre in general) didn't make it on. It had a huge influence and followed some updates additions as well. Such as when spawners became customizable, we had custom mobs that could even give wool. Super Hostile even had a map based around a book as well, that I think was a commission. Even the Yogscast did Canopy Carnage, hovering just under 2 Million views for the first episode.
Super Hostile had has an huge influence of the game. It really helped move along a genre of facing a challenge presented to you. You didnt get the option to explore at your leisure, mobs was a constant threat. You had a goal. Find and complete a monument.

I'm not quite sure how popular this map series was compared to others mentioned in this video, but "Vechs Super Hostile" maps were influential to me. Not sure how many downloads they all had but I think it was a major step and spawned a genre of more hardcore Minecraft map experiences. (Just did a quick Google search, in 2012 the collection of maps he had released at the time had a total 1.3 million downloads before he stopped tracking it. Of course this number has increased a whole lot since then. It also seems he's STILL making maps all these years later. He uploads stream logs to his TH-cam channel)

I think The Heist was the start of really advanced and technical maps. I remember when it came out and wondered how that was really possible. After that, many amazing maps with things thought not to be possible, or extremely difficult to execute in Minecraft emerged, like many unique puzzle maps. I think it doesn't get enough credit and I wasn't really expecting for it to be listed here, but yeah.
Other notable popular maps when 1.9 was released were "Sad Panda Adventures" (Shooting custom mobs while automatically moving) and "Terra Swoop Force" (amazing elytra map).
Then, even crazier stuff has been created, such as Pokemon Cobalt, which is basically a pokemon game in Minecraft (PhoenixSC youtuber lead that project). Then an actual pokemon game was also 100% recreated in Minecraft.
Yeah, the earth 1:1000 scale map was cool, but there's also this project called BuildTheEarth, which builds its architecture 1:1 scale in Minecraft (a couple mods used). It's by far the largest map project and will take years to complete, but at this pace, it probably will in under a decade. (Project lead by youtuber PippenFTS)
I know these aren't as influential just because they were/are made years later, but I think these along with many other maps definitely made modern Minecraft map history.

I'd say the Super Hostile series was the real origin point for adventure maps as we know them today, largely thanks to the Mindcrack guys (esp. Zisteau) getting heavily into them. Herobrine's Mansion was a little bit later, and added more story elements, but the core gameplay had already been established by then.

  • @Zengetsi

Vech's Super Hostile series was one of the most important maps of early minecraft, having these large worlds, special items, and even having story elements in them made them such an absolute powerhouse, especially with the CTM genre really spawning from them, would love to see a video about them in the future!

I need help to find a survival map from around 2012-2013 that was a mountain floating like Skyblock, but quite big, the map had four trees I think (Oak, birch, spruce, and a mushroom tree far from the others) there was a little pillar with a chest hidden inside, there were two sheeps, two chickens, two pigs and cows, and I think there were wolves too, underground there was a chest hidden and a cave that leaded to a part where the walls had fallen I think and you could see the void (Because the mountain was floating as I said), and at the end was a glowstone crucifix built and a chest, I can't remember much more, but I used to play a lot on this map when I was younger, I even played with my sister and cousin, because our PC wasn't good enough to being able to play normal survival, so I played tons of skyblock world types. I tried to find it on quite a few pages but nothing, I have many good memories of this map.

I wish we knew we were in the good ol' times, while were in the good ol' times.
Watching this video gives me that chilling, reflecting feeling in my chest. The feeling of nostalgia and memories, but also a feeling of realization... realization of the massive part that Minecraft was in my childhood, how many hours I spent on YT watching these maps, playing this maps, and wanting to rebuild these maps.
I miss those days, I wish I could we live them.

Back in 2011 (IIRC, as it was for Beta i think), a friend of mine developed a way to generate a random map with a few new special features for use as a battle royale, played periodically by members of 'the spawn' IRC channel. IT would generate a small world, players would be spawned around a central point hundreds of blocks apart. an invisible barrier forming a circle around the play area would slowly shrink, forcing survivors towards a final showdown. Was a ton of fun, kinda miss playing those.

These maps were all extremely influential, your video needs a part 2:
    - Cake defense and Cake defense 2 by Disco, as well as zombie siege.
    - Blockwork’s uncensored library
    - Redstone computer in 2011 (theinternetftw or LPG)
    - The 2010 USS entreprise map
    - TerraSwoopForce
    - TheFlooNetwork’s Harry Potter RPG
    - FunLand amusement park
    - Olann island amusement park
    - Ragecraft trilogy
    - Super hostile maps
    - Sethbling’s build battle
    - Sethbling’s TNT Olympic
    - The first Find The Button map
    - Djamila by Eventime
    - FyreUK’s map for The Fallen kingdom’s song you could argue was influential.
    - The main World Of Keralis world
    - Minas tirith by fishyyy
    - Greenfield
    - Babylon by Roi Louis
    - Elderia Islands by Aurélien Sama
    - Imperial city
    - The Towers pvp map
    - Hoodoo pvp map
    - Balls of Steel pvp map

It so sad when you can't find Good Maps. The Problem with minecraft maps is... most of the creators put their maps on marketplace.. the day when I Decided to spend 1$ on it to see if I can get Good Map. Turns out I got Scammed but it's depend on How Much effort they put on maps. These days you find good maps on minecraft marketplace. If you're playing on bedrock edition. If you're playing on Java then you are safe. You can Download Whatever maps you want and all of em is gonna be Available on Planet minecraft or other site whatever is good for you.
Sadly you can't find good maps on bedrock edition. ☹😒

Oh god, the nostalgia. I remember when Minecraft Hunger Games first arrived and playing on that map, I was hooked immediately and I was a *beast* in that minigame for the like last 2 years of me playing minecraft. It's been almost a decade since then now... Time flies 😢Doesn't help that last I checked it out, most servers where people actually play SG/HG are spiced up with 'classes' or such to give people an early advantage in some shape of form, essentially Pay 2 Win.... It's very unfortunate.

I remember a map from way back called like the 404 challenger or something which involved you having to grab as many materials you could before night time and then falling into a gravel pit and having to live underground for the rest of the playthrough. You had rules like no torches for light and stuff.
