  • Welcome to "4xoverland" channel. One of the world's first and leading global 4WD adventure motoring channels.
The title of this video is "I bought a 45 years old range rover. I must be out of my mind! range rover old"
My feelings after purchasing the old Range Rover......
New range rover vs old range rover.
Range Rover is a type of Land Rover model. The Range Rover lineup consists of four models: the Range Rover, the Range Rover Evoque, the Range Rover Sport, and the Range Rover Velar.
What have I done? Have I gone mad? What does Paul think? This does not replace any vehicle and will not become the channel's primary overland touring rig. It's a stand-alone project but we have many long-term plans for its development and use.

Hi Andrew ...... How fantastic, this is directly how I found you and your site . A couple of years back I was in the doldrums with my current vehicle which was a nice very low milage Toyota 4Runner. I sat down one morning with some coffee and put my head in gear and thought "what do I really want as my daily driver " ??? .......... In the early 1980's back in the UK ( I am a Brit in the USA ) I owned an early two door RR which I truly loved and had always regretted selling ..... BINGO that was my answer !!!. Well having done some research I realized that two door RR's were never bought into the USA ..... to console myself I started searching on youtube and promptly found your film in Welsh Wales. I found you, I found your films and was rejuvenated ....... But wait there's more. Undaunted I joined a few RR groups on FaceBook and threw in a wanted advert for an early RR. To my amazement a chap from New Hampshire contacted me saying he had a 1972 Two Door LHD Suffix A ...... ??????. Now this guy was from small town in New Hampshire on the other side of the states called "Epsom" , I new immediately this was a good omen as I was born in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, UK which is not far from the original English town of Epsom. The car turned out to be a CKD from Costa Rica which had been assembled there in early 1973, it arrived in the USA in 2003 and had been sitting unused for over 15 years. My second piece of luck was that my wife and I were attending a wedding in Newfoundland and were flying back to California via Boston. We were due a days layover there which gave me the opportunity to rent a car and drive to New Hampshire to see the Range Rover .......... Long story short, it was outstanding. I paid the man a deposit and soon after had it shipped across the USA to me in SoCal ...... registration 72SUFXA. Recently my wife having finally retired we have moved to Prescott, Arizona where I am bring it back to life and returning it to its original spec ....... Yes it is White like your old one. I am so thrilled you have bought yours as I know that we share the same sort of passion for the car. Best of luck with the drive, I wish I could be there to do it with you !!! ....... Will follow with great excitement on how the next adventure pans out ........ CHEERS, Richard "Baja" Bell

When the vehicles aren't serviceable by owners of only moderate skill, they'll end up economically-totalled and will be sent to the wreckers.
The reasons any given model of car ends up not being serviceable of course vary, but one of the biggest is a manufacturer's unwillingness to enable those owners of moderate skill to do their own intense service.
At this point in automotive history this is at a new height, automobiles have electrical systems so complex and essential to the basic operation that many models today are just going to effectively disappear.

Congratulations again. I will drink a good Belgium beer to your new acquisition, looking forward to the next episodes.

I rarely comment, but this project stirs me!
After 20 years with Land Rovers I made the switch to Toyota a few years ago in the form of a 100 Series Land Cruiser. I'm thoroughly impressed with Toyota and don't foresee myself ever going back to Rover. That's said, there is just something about Rovers.(largely nostalgia and the good memories made with my father in one) Should space, time and finances ever allow, I'd love a Disco I or RRC project!
Bravo, Andrew! I will eagerly await each new installment of this project!

I know how it feels to find your car, the one that evokes nostalgia, as we get older is a powerful emotion... Ive learned to drive with my dad in a series 2 a had 2 defenders 5 discos across the series and a l322.. And for me it was the discovery 2.. it’s been 10 years since I owned a discovery, 2 and on the rare occasion I ever saw a discovery 2 it would turn my head.. I flirted with the idea of getting another one.. Then the nostalgia kicked in, buying a discovery again was on the cards.. looked at some rubbish but found a good one in the end.. when I got in the car it was like putting on a glove.. it felt right..there were some jobs to do and they were done and it wants for nothing... has it let me down.. yes!
It’s 20:years old,... But I wouldn’t change it, I will never get rid of it..
the discovery 2 marked the end of an era at Land Rover as the company moved too far away from the marques origins.. the new stuff as capable and technical as it is.. it’s not for me... Ive owned them but Ive never bonded with them..
In reality the discovery 2 had my heart all along..
You may have a breakdown or two, but seeing your video I can see your love for that car..
Your in it together.. I look forward to seeing the next series of videos..
I never write on comments usually, I felt compelled to.. Ive been there..
I wish you all the luck..
you will be bonding in no time...

All your previous trucks have been great but either unavailable in the UK or too expensive to consider , this on the other hand , as a former owner of a 2 door classic Range Rover , is one I will follow with great interest and for once just a smidgin of envy . I love it! My first 4X4 was a1987 Range Rover Classic. The bar for my expectations for 4WD Vehicles was set very high, right out of the gate. I wish I never sold that one. Later I bought a Discovery 2. I kept it for 6 months before selling it. If I could get my hands on (afford) a Defender 90 or 110, I would go back to Land Rover. I have bought a few defenders and drove them back to Melbourne from Cairns and Sydney respectively.
    It's the best adventure.
You'll need to change the oils everywhere.
Make sure you use an engine oil for the gearbox or redline MTL. People put in ep90- box gets hot then you cannot select gears.
Do unijoints or at least regrease them.
Check wheel bearings etc. I guess it's all standard stuff.! Looking forward to the adventure!

For a 4x4 channel, I never expected it to be so sentimental--and I mean that in a positive way. My heart fills up watching these.

You often see Land Rover defenders that have been resto-modded. I've always wondered why Andrew never went down that route. Get an old Land Rover (even a Range Rover) and then put in a Toyota engine.. maybe the same diesel V8 that is in his beloved Troopy. The Australian military has been putting Isuzu engines into their Land Rovers, I don't see how it could be any different.. and then you would have literally the perfect vehicle that you can be so proud of.. because you what you love from all the vehicles you've owned and you put it all together. Kind of like an "All Stars" expedition vehicle.
However, considering the shape that this range rover it would be a shame to do anything less than a full on proper original restoration. However, maybe it might not be a far off idea to think about doing the above to another range rover or Defender that is in good condition structurally, but needs a lot of mechanical work done to it.

Great videos Mr St. Pierre White. Your channel, and your videos I watched and rewatched plenty. Huge fan. Just wondering about your opinion abouit the Defender Hardtop. Seeing as the RRC is a nostagic purchase, which is no doubt upgradeable and probably - potentially a great overlander, what's your opinion of the Defender as a probable overlander option now that standard coil springs are a possibility and at the same time, the electronic compromises for modern urban living and safety tests etc ? Am personally waiting for the Grenadier but for the coin, it seems like there isn't anything really out there.. G professional being tad more expensive, grenadier being non-existent as yet and land cruiser seemingly more tech heavy too. Guess the only other would be Jeep, but you mentioned it not exactly built for overlanding? Gladiator wise ? Else what I thought of were the commercial offroaders like the Iveco daily /unimog. Not sure if this is a right picture, or perspective, would like to hear your piece. Always a pleasure hearing from you about Land Rovers and Land Cruisers. Stay amazing and stay healthy. Looking forward. Cheers.
