Missing the Eurovox stereo I see. This is such a magnificent time capsule, I am loving seeing it in all its glory. I grew up in a white 2 door, then a black 4 door. Now mum’s baby is my daily, a white, soft dash 94 Vogue LSE. I remember so much about the the early cars. The smell, how hard it was for me as a child to pull the rear seat fold release mechanism, the huge gear knob on the end of a 1.5 foot long gear stick, those holes in the dash, the petrol cap that had a spring release and then you put the key in. Such fun times. Back when I fought with my brother over who could put petrol in the car. The pop up ashtray... mum and dad always smoked in the car.

Im only 30% through this and it’s already very refreshing Andrew.
Everyone is buying new cruisers and building them up. It’s crazy boring, No adventure in it. Going touring in a old girl with a bit of character, having them fail and overcoming it makes for great viewing... I think that’s a small part of why roothy is so good to watch
And this kind of car is more attainable to the common fella so it’s much more relatable

Becoming readily unobtainable. The collectors have bought up the last of the 2 doors and some have the lofty idea they can charge well into the six figures.

Reminds me of buying our 40 year old HJ47 Troopy, neglected for 12 years and driving it unregistered from Perth to the East Coast. We had to put gorilla tape where the roof met the windscreen surround because there was a hole that let bugs in and the noise was deafening 😅 great memories!

As someone who restored a far worse condition Jaguar XJ6L ,( a farmer had been using it as a truck in the fields) this is a gem. When done , my Jag took best in class at a concours.
This is the type of vehicle that got you started. Whatever truck you may build in the future, this is the first bookend of your career.
Personally, I would restore it to perfection, and drive it as if it were new. It’s a keeper!👍 Then, what patina it acquires will be you, and not just someone else’s neglect!

Absolutely excellent!! Whether you just drive it back to Perth and be done with it, or do a full restoration, this is film-making at its finest. I remember your previous films regarding your love for the old Range Rovers. The story has gone "full circle"; come all the way back around to your roots. I love this series, and we're only one video in to it.
As always, bless you for the work that you do, telling these amazing stories. Be it traveling through Africa, or picking up a classic Rover, you have a true gift for telling a great story. Thank you!!!

Always loved LRs! I've had 2 old Disco 1s and still have a 1969 IIA. I sold my last disco and picked up a Hilux as a daily because I was sick of the endless breakdowns and repairs. Thanks to this video, I think I've caught the bug again. They're loud and they're slow and they're always going to break down but there is just so much to love about an old Land Rover

Also a Cruiser guy, but recently at age 65 bought my first Landy S2a in fair condition for a 50 year old plus vehicle. I am doing repair work I have never done before and loving it. I get up earlier just to do this or that small thing, I can't wait to get home so that I can do some work on it. I have an even older than me Landy mentor, putting forward the idea of doing a bit at a time and soon you will have a great vehicle. It has only been 3 months and I love it. You must enjoy this journey.

Great to see you in the Range Rover finally. Look forward to seeing more of the videos. One thing that stands out to me initially is the way that the rear sags when you accelerate. Looking at the vehicle, I would resto-mod it. Keep it as original as you can, but improve on it so that you can use it as a daily driver and for short solo trips. Considering the state of the garage in the coming weeks and months, I know it is just going to be filled with two vehicles that have your heart and soul in them.
All the best with the coming projects.

Something reassuring about having a pre 1999 model 4WD when you’re out in the middle of nowhere, alone. Knowing that pretty much any break down can be repaired to at least limp mode to get you and the vehicle back to civilianisation, is a comforting feeling. The hideously expensive and over computerised modern 4WDs break down almost just as much, and the only way out is a very expensive, very lengthy wait for tow truck to save you!
Give me to old stuff any day!

If the engine and gearbox is good and there isn't too much rust it will be fine.
Bits wear out, rubber goes hard and flaky, bearing and bushings need replacing but the main metal parts don't change.
I bought a tired and sad 70 series eight years ago, she shaked and rattled all the way from St.Andrews in Scotland to the south of England.
Over the years I have replaced only wheel bearings and rubber items, along with track rod ends etc, front suspension and the barn door hinges.
It slowly got better and better and then I bit the bullet and replaced the 2009 tyres, (a bit hard by then) with some 33" KO2's. It is like a nearly new vehicle now.
These old 4X4s are worth looking after, the value of them keeps going up because they are easy to work on.

Myself with this being a second chance with your dream vehicle. Restore so you have the reliably that you expect from your and do as little as you need in modifications to do what you need. Stay true to your beliefs and you will have a amazing end result! Cheers

I certainly hope the work calms you down a little for the cross country trip, I was surprised to see what a worry wort you were when first driving it. I’m teasing, but maybe a can or two of petrol in the back might be a good addition. I loved the look on your face after coming out of the Brit Parts building, you can see the joy in your face, I can almost see you as a young man looking at the first Range Rover you owned. Enjoy this time, hopefully there is no time constraints. Good luck.
Do you ever publish any blooper clips?, I’d love to see some.

This is very nostalgic! I remember driving my boss’s 1983 Range Rover back from Bakers Hill to Perth, the thing hadn’t moved in 15+ years, a genuine barn find. I recall the thing was in desperate need of an anti roll bars because it handled like a boat. Lively drive to say the least.

It deserves a good quality restoration with a handful of sympathetic mods like some soundproofing and decent cooling. A lot of people make a fuss about patina, and I understand that on a special, historic vehicle, but not on a run of the mill example. Patina is just damage, and will lead to more rapid corrosion or other ageing.

Love it, love it, LOVE IT!!!
There are two of these in my neighbourhood which are daily used, but both 5 door variants, I’m bursting to ask the owners for a drive
Can’t wait for the next episode, this should be made into a (however long hours) documentary 🥰

Now that sub frame lift kit is available and smaller wheels for new Defender. Woud be great to see build on that platform.

    This car is so gorgeous!
I wish if Land Rover keep the Range Rover in this design like Mercedes did with the G class....
