What I'm seeing here is that you're gaining control over the gunman. I think this is a really good point most overlook. The attacker is the threat. The gun will hurt you. But you need to control the situation and the attacker to defend yourself.
Once again excellent break down of the concept & technique. Truly grateful for both of you for taking the time to share your decade's of wisdom and experience. To all on this channel: PLEASE spread the knowledge, share the video's so the channel will grow. And, have a Blessed Father's Day to all the dad's.
What stands out to me here is if you're grappling for that gun at all the obvious thing the guy with the gun would try to do if he doesn't panic and start pulling the trigger wherever it's pointing if he can't shoot you directly in that moment is to first push you away with his free hand, so you gotta really hold on tight and not let him get any distance until either you have it or it gets dropped, otherwise it'll only take a split second to still get shot anyway as soon as he turns back around, if you even got to the side in the first place which might not even happen. If you did get it at that point and position it's still useless as anything but a bludgeon. Given my inexperience I probably wouldn't try anything period even if the guy slipped up because I can't assume I have the speed or the grip to pull off any of that.
I love the video. I just learned something new. Adding the human element makes all the difference in the world. Much love and respect to Professor David and Shihan Kenny.
Once again Professor JD &Kenny , beautiful techniques as always its makes perfect sense. Why do it the way they show , if you have a perfect and better way of showing us the correct way for us to survive out there in the streets. Thank you again Professor JD and Kenny, keep up don't stop until everyone PAYS ATTENTION!
Yes, the film you show with the guy staring at the gun, is a disaster. I fully agree. But allow me to remark that your own alterntives here do not seem convincing. I find the control of the gun to be very flimsy. You may easily get shot as you are both struggling for the gun. He might also change the gun into the other hand as you are grappling. And your punches at his head from the shown angle may not be very effectful. This is dangerous. I love most of your stuff, this one not so much, if I may say so, sir 👍
But I think he's wrapping up the attacker's whole body. Not sure here... so I'm not saying anyone is wrong or right. But to me it looks like his technique is geared toward gaining control over the assailant's whole body. I didn't like the idea of sweeping the gun across my whole body at first because it feels like longer time/space for the gun to be essentially on target. But he pins the attacker's arm ends up wrapping up both arms on the attacker. This seems like he's quickly getting control here. One of the problems with all of these tactics is that it will always take less time to pull a trigger than to swing arms around. Fingers move faster than hands, hands move faster than arms. So any defense tactic has to rely on getting the attacker to hesitate and then getting control.
Thank you Master !
I'm impressed !! You explained this method very well, you have a gift...thank you for sharing.

Exactly. Think if the self-defense technique can be done better!
It depends on where the gun is located. You want to move the gun to the shortest real estate on the body. That may be the live or the dead side.
