I was working as an au pair in Paris in 1962-1963 and when I saw that Edith Piaf would be having a concert at the famous Paris Olympia theater, I bought a ticket. The theater was huge and Paris came out in droves to see this iconic singer. When Piaf stepped on stage in her signature black dress, you could have heard a pin drop in the audience. She looked so tiny and fragile that I felt that if the entire audience exhaled together she would fall over. Then she started to sing and the hairs on my neck and head stood up. She may have been physically weak but her voice was strong and extraordinarily beautiful. As it turned out, this was her last public appearance and I feel so fortunate that I was able to see and hear her in person for her final curtain call.
After reading this, I myself am convinced that you have grown up as a dignified stately lady, and that you are happy with the experiences you have had in your life as a babysitter.

She WAS beautiful. Charmant! In this video I think she was near her last days, heavily sick already. So we see only deterioration of health here but she is beautiful even at these moments as well.
Oh my goodness gracious...superb. I read this was filmed not too very far away from her passing. Her voice so strong, so filled with emotion, such authenticity. In this same year Judy Garland was also at her prime. How I wish they sang a duet. I often imagine Garland singing La Vie en Rose to Edith Piaf singing Over the Rainbow. Such talent in such tiny packages...Garland at 4'11" and Piaf at 4'9." Both passed at just about the same age. We were blessed to have them both for whatever time they were here with us.

My Grade 12 French teacher (in Canada) absolutely loved this lady and would play her songs in class. This has always remained one of my favourite songs of all time.
Edith Piaf gave our world a truly glorious look into the perfection and failings of each of us. Her lack of judgement, her determination to sing with all her heart, with pure love is astonishing to witness in this precious film clip. Who needs when razzle-dazzle when there's art?

Édith piaf enjoyed worldwide success and recognition. Every song writer in her prime wished she would pick his song, knowing she would turn it into a success. She had many, many friends around her and found and( sometime lost) love many times . She kept away from alcohol and drugs and, subsequently managed to keep herself together. A car accident around 1953 took its toll though.... After woods she took to touring as much as she possibly could, eventually exhausting herself completely doing what she really cared for: performing in front of her many, many fans. Though her background doomed her to a miserable life, she had the personality and found the strength not to let them dictate the course of her life and overcame every obstacle that stood in her way to become a legend. It's a good thing to distinguish between who she became and actually was and what she looked like . She often sung for the loosers, the poor, the ananymous but make no mistake about that, she was the opposite of a looser.

Эдит физически была слаба и больна, но сила её духа, её воля и голос были невероятно сильными.

What a magnificent talent, what a sad life. So fragile, yet so brave. I still weep when I hear her lonely voice. May God have the little sparrow in a very special place. Genius is usually troubled and so misunderstood.
Édith piaf enjoyed worldwide success and recognition. Every song writer in her prime wished she would pick his song, knowing she would turn it into a success. She had many, many friends around her and found and( sometime lost) love many times . She kept away from alcohol and drugs and, subsequently managed to keep herself together. A car accident around 1953 took its toll though.... After woods she took to touring as much as she possibly could, eventually exhausting herself completely doing what she really cared for: performing in front of her many, many fans. Though her background doomed her to a miserable life, she had the personality and found the strength not to let them dictate the course of her life and overcame every obstacle that stood in her way to become a legend. It's a good thing to distinguish between who she became and actually was and what she looked like . She often sung for the loosers, the poor, the ananymous but make no mistake about that, she was the opposite of a looser.
The sheer amount of passion and emotion in her face and voice... You can definitely tell she's *lived*! 😵

A few years ago I met a young lady named Avia Rose. I said "Your mother must be a Piaf fan;" which she was ("La Vie en Rose" being another of her great songs. A sparrow with great power.
