About 3 years ago, my grandmother told me my grandfather wanted this song to be played at his funeral. I haven't heard this song since then. Today, my grandpa passed away and here I am, listening to this masterpiece again. My grandma is also currently spending her last days on earth. It is odd. Despite how much human life has improved by almost every metric (poverty, hunger, disease, wealth, medicine, education, so on, so forth) there really is that temptation to return to those days. Not entirely sure why, either. Maybe the grime fades with the distance of time, maybe it's because we can see the inequality in the world where we couldn't before, maybe there was genuinely a hope and optimism back then that we've lost in the years since. I suppose I'm going nowhere in particular with my thoughts, but I find it interesting to ponder.

About 3 years ago, my grandmother told me my grandfather wanted this song to be played at his funeral. I haven't heard this song since then. Today, my grandpa passed away and here I am, listening to this masterpiece again. My grandma is also currently spending her last days on earth. She's unconscious, waiting to join my grandfather wherever he is.

This version is NOT their original LP version. The verses are all mixed up. Terrible. I think whomever pieced this together wanted it to fit the video they made and they RUINED it. And so many are looking at a bad mixed up version.

My daughter and I listened to this song as we were driving through the beautiful Arches National Park in Moab Utah last November...it was my first time there (I live in NY)...the combination of the stunning scenery and this beautiful song brought me to tears....a memory I will never forget.

@@gerardofabian7921 Lima es uno de los lugares más feos del mundo con bulla, contaminación, construcciones a medio terminar y que se ven horribles, sin espacios verdes y con gente agresiva, que no sabe que es respetar una regla (dejar cruzar al peatón, hacer una cola para dar unos ejemplos). Viví allí 4 años, me alegro de haberme ido y de estar de nuevo en Europa, ahora en Portugal. La gente es tan amable y educada aquí, hay organización. Espero no ir nunca más al Perú.

I was just dusting off and enjoying playing some of my now vintage reel to reel 4-track tape albums, listening to this track from an S&G greatest hits album… got me all emotionally choked up, having not heard this one, one of my all-time favorite S&G songs from my early childhood. Had to find it here in YT to send a link of it to my mother to hear it again &, see this channels FANTASTIC video for such an amazingly well written and sung song! Just one of those very few songs that one can hear repeated several times, back to back & never get tired of hearing again.

It is odd. Despite how much human life has improved by almost every metric (poverty, hunger, disease, wealth, medicine, education, so on, so forth) there really is that temptation to return to those days. Not entirely sure why, either. Maybe the grime fades with the distance of time, maybe it's because we can see the inequality in the world where we couldn't before, maybe there was genuinely a hope and optimism back then that we've lost in the years since. I suppose I'm going nowhere in particular with my thoughts, but I find it interesting to ponder.
I was in the navy from 69 to 73. Those years were not a time I would like to repeat.
