Grew up watching shows on that tv. That circled 9 in the upper right corner of the screen trim was a dead giveaway. Although the model we had was more of a dark brown wood styled trim for the face with black cover on the back. I remember my dad taking it apart one time to take out the tubes, we went to a local convenience store where they had a tube tester, buying them and installing them and viola, working TV again. The memories!
I suspect the owner of this set will be *quite happy!* I hope the owner saw the video and noticed all the trouble Jordan had to go through to get the set running right!
it is kinda amazing that someone can repair a speaker like that. i always watch youtube at 720p anyway, so no problem for me. Here it is -11 celsius and 21cm snow
Nice fix on the speaker. Always worth having a go for difficult to replace parts. I hope I can emulate the patience and persistence you demonstrated the next time I face a similar situation :-)
Totally cool, good job on that speaker, at least on youtube it sounds totally ok. At least some more life out of the damaged element. And glad you decided to show the technique of repairing it. I've watched your other speaker repair videos but this is the smallest speaker I've seen you repair.
I was an apprentice tv tech at an Admiral dealer when those sets were current. It would have been a bit too early to have solid state circuitry in that set, as we were still mostly in the germanium phase of the transistor revolution back in 1966. While they could have transistorized some of the small signal functions, I doubt they would have been able to do the sweep functions. Some silicon was out there, but it was really expensive. So it would have been a hybrid at best, and a lot more expensive to buy. The Admiral color sets of the same period were all vacuum tube designs. I really didn't care for the brand. The small tv's weren't the only products where they did dumb things like making tubes inaccessible.
Ar 25:05, I would have removed that upper tube shell while you had the room to see why it's stuck! Why didn't you vacuum out the basket before putting the cone back in?
The coolest thing about these little sets is they're all tube, I have the same one but it's a brown cabinet with silver trim and it's an instant pond that's the only difference.
I probably wouldve after fixing the spkr maybe injecting a signal from another audio source just to verify it was fixed and done the same after installing it back in the tv. At least that wouldve given me confidence that it was working before reinstalling the rest of the tv.

Working on this old stuff for the majority of my life.
If you disconnected the bad speaker, you could have added another speakers and modded the cabinet.
