  • If you could only upgrade one product in the chain to a vacuum tube for added warmth, would it be the preamp or power amp and why? If you want to learn more, grab a copy of Paul's new book, The Audiophile's Guide. www.psaudio.com/products/the-...

Anyone else think it's ironic that S.S. technology is so accurate & clean that people, including myself, are reverting back to vinyl and tubes for a little "dirt'?

They seem to use a lot of Windex at PS Audio. You see bottles everywhere in these videos. Maybe I should ask a question about the use of Windex in high-end audio? Does it improve transparency?

Tube preamplifiers definitely give you the soundstage you crave without completely rounding off all the notes or hiding detail (if they’re well designed). Tubes in preamplifiers generally last much longer; as well.

Paul you ain’t never lied! I put a vacuum tube preamp in my system woke up my amp! I bought a Schiit Audio Feya+ and man did it make a difference!🔊

Yes, Paul is right. I replaced Parasound P6 with Schiit Freya+ tube pre amp between my Dac and my Parasound power amp. It sounds so much better, the voice just sounds magical. My next move is to replace my Parasound a/b power amp with the more powerful PS audio class d M700s to see if they will make a good improvement.

I swear by hybrids, like the Vincent SV-237MK. You get the best of both worlds. Tube warmth with solid state oomph.

Tubes give life and character to an amplifier

A possibility of an answer to the question of why does a tube sound better might be that electricity moves more freely in air

I was against Chinese cheap tube preamps, bought one for test and swapped tubes for rca and it sounds amazing can't believe it

It is simple. Tubes add even harmonic distortion. This makes hi-hat and other non-harmonic instruments more audible in the mix. Our ears/brain will infer a fundamental simply from the harmonics. Of course harmonic instruments like guitar become richer harmonically but this isn’t as important .

I was listening to an interview with Nelson Pass and he touched on this subject. His experience with solid state and Tube preamps and amplifiers taught him that tubes are more pleasant to listen to because of their second-order harmonics

Now I am finally convinced to get a tube preamp and solid State power amp ! Thanks Paul! Lots of love from the Big Apple.

I know he’s gonna say tube preamp, solid state power amp. I love tube power amps for guitar but not hifi!

Dear Paul, just cannot resist watching your videos although I know there will be no spectecular cinematic clips with huge sound effects and great lighting.

For a while I was persuaded to use a passive preamp on the grounds that there were fewer components to degrade the signal. Then 20 odd years ago, I borrowed a tube preamp from a dealer which blew me away. The soundstage was enormous and detail enhanced. No going back.

Tubes add harmonic content, i.e., saturation, and often that results in a fuller sound, bringing out details.

Dear @PS Audio / Paul McGowan, I'm new to your channel. I started watching your videos to learn more about amplifiers and mostly because I'm considering buying and affordable class D amp, something small and compact to use in my desk with some old Pioneer speakers (from 1976). I must say that so far it has been very enlighten to hear your explanations!

I am just got a AIYIMA T9 Tube Preamp yesterday. I really didn't expect much for $70.00. Hook it up and I am amazed at how good it sounds hooked up to my ATI AT2505 amplifiers. It also has excellent S/N . Seriously. It also has Bluetooth and A Remote. Got it on Amazon. There were 4 but now only 1 available.
