Lastly on the higher difficulty levels the AI and bosses hit u with cheap moves and enemies can knock you out of your special moves so u can't stay on top of your enemies like in the old sega games I could go on. The game is good though still but I don't think I'll be getting that nice big physical edition.

Crazy how a Sega title that was a weapon against SNES is now on a Nintendo platform. Amazing scores and what I have been looking forward to. Seems price is holding it back a little, so may wait for a sale and get it. Plus I may wait a little as I want my son to play this game when I was his age (which is in like a year or two from now)
Held out 4 the review from the lads, not disappointed, but being the sucker nostalgia that I am copy was a ready bought justified by the 10% off, the friendly fire will b useful as to b fair my kids would purposely cause injury lol
Great review, one of those games that is instant purchase. 3 things highlighted for me, (and this is born of gaming passion). 1) DF have got this running on switch on 60fps not missing a beat. So framerate is very interesting. Was this tested in handheld mode ? 2) I really want this on switch , but ps4 got this at £17.99 for ps+ and £19.99 regular price, for locked 60fps and a trophy system. At £22.99 on switch on digital sale, nintendo tax rears its ugly head again. With so many people having switch + another games console, its a no brainer for me. Unfortunately a ps4 win. Also of recent, many games have gone this route that has made the decision to purchase on another platform far more compelling. A brand new console may demand a higher price , but switch is two years old. Im still collecting on switch, but i just checked limited run games. They want $89.99 and postage and packaging plus import taxes. They too are becoming rather greedy it seems. 3) we all know now, that within a few weeks of sale, DotEmu are a company that will put this 'on sale' because the mechanic of switch Eshop means that it will be propelled back into the 'charts' for a second and even third exposure. And.. i dont blame them either, you have to go with the what sells your game the best. I love and own dotemu games, no blame is upon them. So where this should have been purely joyous occasion, for me it also highlights the many fustrating issues starting to appear for switch. However, i will be purchasing the game, as it looks fantastic. As a man who was 18 when he played the original in 92' this is wonderful.
Hey mate. Our framerate test was done whilst in docked mode and showed that it could certainly hit 60 but wasn't locked. One theory may be that a day one patch has fixed the framerate since we captured footage. If so, that's good to know. Yeah, the price is an issue when compared to other consoles. I'll pay the extra for a game just because a lack of available time in front of the tele in the household means that an extra few quid is worth it for the extra hours I can stick into it. However, companies knowing this and using it is not ok. Regarding Limited Run and a few other similar companies, I have started weening myself off of them because of their price hikes and a few other things I don't like. I might do what I did with River City Girls and wait for a decent price on eBay. Not an ideal way to get one but you sometimes end up saving a few quid. Like you say, it's a shame to talk about such issues when an amazing franchise has just returned from the dead. Have a look at my retrospective if you get a chance mate. Would be interested to hear your thoughts. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt wow you type quick 😂 yes mate and i am 100 percent getting this , DotEmu i really respect, and they are genuinly trying to bring old classics back to a new generation and feed us old lads nostalgia, and i think they nailed the formula. SOR4 looks beautiful. A lot of love gone into this. Your review did this justice. I will go check out retrospec tomorrow and drop my thoughts down. Stay safe gaming brother.
Love the art style, does such good justice to the originals. But is it bad normal difficulty was kicking my ass had to drop to easy for now but loving the game so far beated it on easy
I just would have liked a bit more playable characters to unlock. I know it's not a castle crasher, but i wouldn't have minded something more than what it already offers as a reward for the after end-game grinding. still, the wife enjoys it, and it's really a nice and ease-off co-op
As I said before.... this is probably the best 2D Beat em up ever made, and I played em all since the early 80s, I know exactly what im talking about and this is a 100% buy, I play this regulary still.
Um, are you guys using FCAP for framerate analysis? Digital Foundry said that the framerate is pretty much a consistent 60fps, but that sometimes the hitstun effects (the slight frame pauses that occur to confirm to the player that their attack connected) sometimes might be incorrectly interpreted as a framerate drop. I also have this game and everything is buttery smooth as well (except when playing online, which can draw hitches due to network lag).
If i have 2 copies of the game, 2 switch lites can we play locally and view the game on our own screens or is co-op only playable on the same screen/online?
Got the game and it is really the best beat em up I have played in quite a while. Regarding frame rate. I felt it was pretty much 60 fps with no dips, Digital Foundry review stated it was a "locked 60 fps" on Switch. Did the dips you saw happen frequently or was it a quick, hard to notice kind of a thing?
+Andrew S They appeared mainly in 2 player. Haven't seen DF's video - was it all single player or both? Another answer is that there may have been a day one patch that's locked the framerate. It was definitely hitting 60 when we captured, just not consistently. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt I hope your son is feeling better Glenn! Perhaps it is a two player situation, with more assets on the screen taxing the system a bit more. Interesting nevertheless! Now all we need for Nintendo to do is to put a Streets of Rage 4 Arcade into Animal Crossing, and we are golden!
SwitchUp If you're playing two player *online*, you are bound to indeed get framerate hitches due to the occassional network lag and inconsistent connection quality.
I'm literally watching videos scared that it will be reviewed poorly. Lol. I fully agree with this though. I hope they release a 5 that is even better. I agree they played it too safe. I honestly would like to see a large roster of characters to choose from like a 1v1 fighting game. Maybe they can even work with Capcom and snk to bring in characters like Ryu, and Chun li or some Samurai Shodown characters. 😁
The series has been dormant as the market was saturated by side scrolling beat 'n' ups back in the 90s, and they get boring very fast. Each to their own though... but ye, if no one makes side scrolling fighting games anymore there is a good reason. This will sell on marketing and name alone.
+No Face it was in my original script but I cut it as the first draft of the video was way too long. Figured I'd let people find such things out for themselves. Glen
+miunone09 Tough question. River City has the light RPG elements and is a much longer experience as is the case with that series whereas SoR4 is a much more pure experience and is more balanced (the boss fights aren't as unfair). I would say SoR4, but it's very close. Hope that helps. Glen

Dooooo it. You'll replay it and there are plenty of unlockable characters to have fun with. Whoops I accidentally was thinking out loud.
@@Night-Jester I've been playing since the og Genesis days, I honestly love these games, and I'm really looking forward to playing this new entry in the series, these games r amazing! 💯😃

Biggest surprise for me was how long the levels are and 12 stages thought there be only 8

What did you hear when u were a kid
Crazy how a Sega title that was a weapon against SNES is now on a Nintendo platform.
Amazing scores and what I have been looking forward to.
Seems price is holding it back a little, so may wait for a sale and get it.
Plus I may wait a little as I want my son to play this game when I was his age (which is in like a year or two from now)
Yeah, it's still very strange whenever a big Sega franchise moves over to a Nintendo console even though it's been happening for a few years now. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt case in point also Sonicmania
Held out 4 the review from the lads, not disappointed, but being the sucker nostalgia that I am copy was a ready bought justified by the 10% off, the friendly fire will b useful as to b fair my kids would purposely cause injury lol
Haha, cheers mate. Glen
Hope both you an the kid r feeling better
How does the pro controller feel playing thus with the d pad compared to the joycon? What is the best controller for this game?
Haha. Nice one, you too my friend. Glen
Finally a beat em up with current gen graphics. My only gripe is online mode disconnects a lot.
Yeah, I never had it disconnect but it was laggy. Glen
my favorite game on the switch. can’t wait for the dlc
Love the art style, does such good justice to the originals. But is it bad normal difficulty was kicking my ass had to drop to easy for now but loving the game so far beated it on easy
This is 15 dollars in the eshop right now at 40% off. Been waiting to get it at a steal and now is the time.
I just would have liked a bit more playable characters to unlock. I know it's not a castle crasher, but i wouldn't have minded something more than what it already offers as a reward for the after end-game grinding.
still, the wife enjoys it, and it's really a nice and ease-off co-op
There are 17 total characters in the game to play as
As I said before.... this is probably the best 2D Beat em up ever made, and I played em all since the early 80s, I know exactly what im talking about and this is a 100% buy, I play this regulary still.
Yeah, fantastic game!
@@SwitchUpYt that soundtrack omg
Eshop or pay for the physical through limited run games that's the question. Not doing both before anyone says!
It's really fun. Free on gamepass as well.
Excellent stuff!
Ima check it out!
Great stuff!
You hit it on the dang head at 10:24
+NightIIJester Thank you mate. Glen
Alright played it and passed it twice. Love it. Yeah it does lag from time to time.
it would be nice if we there next game would be Ys 1. I can't believe we don't have that yet!
Do you even lift bro?! Umm no I don’t but wonderful review:)
The physical game should be on general release, not just Limited Run issue which is...limited.
Must have for sure
I'm literally watching videos scared that it will be reviewed poorly. Lol. I fully agree with this though. I hope they release a 5 that is even better. I agree they played it too safe. I honestly would like to see a large roster of characters to choose from like a 1v1 fighting game. Maybe they can even work with Capcom and snk to bring in characters like Ryu, and Chun li or some Samurai Shodown characters. 😁
I hope not, feel like that would utterly break the 4th wall and make it feel like a gimmick.
Essential then!
Fun game. New soundtrack is very hit and miss though, much like streets of rage 3s music I guess
i'm looking for a beatem up but am torn between this, river city girls or fightnrage. any other suggestions?
Looks great, it’s just been added to GamePass so on this occasion I’ll be playing over on Xbox 😶
Never meant to pick it up actually, but I installed it on Game Pass, might give it a go
Ah, nice!
Let's get a new final fight now.
Knocking it out the park. Hey sega...revive space harrier please.
The series has been dormant as the market was saturated by side scrolling beat 'n' ups back in the 90s, and they get boring very fast. Each to their own though... but ye, if no one makes side scrolling fighting games anymore there is a good reason. This will sell on marketing and name alone.
Yeah I can see why some people may get bored with beat em ups but I just love the simplicity of them. Glen
how dont the graphics get a 20/20 they look so good
How do you unlock de post effect option for retro crt is not showing on xbox one, anyone?
You didnt mention the returning characters from previous games
+No Face it was in my original script but I cut it as the first draft of the video was way too long. Figured I'd let people find such things out for themselves. Glen
Got it
Hey guys! Did you like this or River City Girls Better?
+miunone09 Tough question. River City has the light RPG elements and is a much longer experience as is the case with that series whereas SoR4 is a much more pure experience and is more balanced (the boss fights aren't as unfair). I would say SoR4, but it's very close. Hope that helps. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt It sure does! Thanks!
SwitchUp It does! Thanks!
GRAND UPPER!
Don’t know if I should get it for ps4 or switch
Huh, surprised to learn it's not consistent 60 FPS 😶
I think post day one it is
SwitchUp Ah, gotcha.
