But if you connect with it it one shots some enemies and takes a huge chunk out of the bosses. That risk vs reward game design is basically the primary thing in good game design. @DejaVoodooDoll Streets of Rage has always been a fast-playing, offensive-minded experience all about kicking ass. Adding a block move would mean the developers would have to incorporate a reason to have it, thus slowing down the experience with lots of annoying blocking. I don't want that in my Streets of Rage game.
I am an early Street of Rage player and I love this game. I was a little bit skeptic about its graphisms because I am not a fan of this kind of design but the way developers handled it is just incredible and very well animated.
I got it and beat it the day it came out. I used to talk about games with my brother in the past and what I felt badly needed a sequel and streets of rage was one I mentioned. Thankfully this game turned out really good.
Finally picked the game up during an eShop sale recently, beat the story mode, managed to get to the final battle on Arcade mode and promptly picked up the DLC when it eventually released on Switch - if you are even a moderate beat-em-up fan, I heartily recommend it. It's gorgeous, sounds great, has a good variety of characters and moves and feels great to play just like SOR2 with responsive controls and a satisfying sense of impact to the hits. Mr X's own children: The Y Twins. Mr X's grandchildren: The Z Triplets. I'm plonking down for the Limited Run SOR4 Classic edition. Heard Limited Run has announced a Limited Collector's Edition with a 7" statue, original soundtrack to the game, chicken stress ball, metal cartridge and the previous features from the Classic edition, and there's an even more expensive Brawler's Edition that includes the aforementioned Limited Edition stuff, the exclusive being the OST in vinyl form and a complete set of trading cards.
Yo, Sega Lord. Just wanted you to know that this review was so fire I watched it twice. Your channel is top tier. So thanks for making videos, you're awesome dude
Pros: - nice graphics style; - very good sound and music; - Blaze outfit; - special attack work in combo; - online coop; - price - only 5,99 $ Cons: - no run/roll; - Axel outfit; - Adam outfit; - no alternative outfits; - new characters; - only 1 special (blitz) attack, when you earn score stars your blitz attacks are upgraded in 2-3 SoR (or use secret moves)
I know im happy with how the game turned out. Reminds me of my youth. Unlocking characters and secrets. No loot boxes, just good old fashion fun and i love the 4 player integration. Cant wait to try it with my buds down the road. The soundtrack is not bad either.
I spent a ton of time over the years playing Bomber Games SOR Remake, which is amazing. After that experiance I was pretty skeptical that anyone would be able to pull off a worthy SOR sequel. But they manged to do it, and tie all the characters together in a new story without it being lame. Bravo!
This game is great but very bare bones.. I would imagine the DLC is arriving soon. New Levels with motorcycles, new characters, new bosses, skins and some more bells and whistles. DO IT!!
I ordered the physical version from limited run games so I’m waiting for that but I can’t wait to go through it. I also got river city girls so I’m on a beat em up kick.
This game was definitely made as a fan service to the Sega Classic. I have always been a fan of Streets of Rage and Beat em ups in general. This is definitely one of the best to come out recently and definitely does the series justice. Awesome game.
absolutely wonderful and well put Streets of rage 2 is hands down my favorite saga Genesis game of all time and I am on my way home to download streets of rage four right now
I feel the same about Sonic Mania. It took what truly worked from the first 3 games and maybe CD too and added to them, rather than, as you say, trying to invent the wheel. But I think these long hibernations are good. They build up the anticipation and excitement. I think we all can agree that we eventually grew bored with these games even though we never lost our respect for them.
I thoroughly enjoyed this game. I installed it yesterday morning and played it all the way through in one sitting first time I’ve done that a long time. Hope you guys enjoy the game as well stay safe
After downloading this game yesterday in playing it for so many hours I have to say it's my favorite game of 2020 so far , it's just phenomenal, a true throwback a labor of love , absolutely loving this game
I kind of wonder if the reviewers who claim it's "not innovative enough" actually bothered to play the game for very long and if they ever actually played the first 3.
@Sega Lord X I do however think it’s fair to criticize the game for omitting features that were introduced in Streets of Rage 3 that unquestionably improved gameplay, like sprinting. I can live without the dodging, but the sprinting was a godsend, in this game trying to walk to other side of the screen just to get to an enemy that won't keep still is an absolute slog, and a downgrade in gameplay and fluidity in my opinion. The characters feel slow and heavy, while most of the enemies can zip around at light speed, I would gladly give up one or even two of the new special attacks just to be able to move around the stage quicker. Final Fight 3 also introduced this mechanic around the same time, so one can assume it was a welcome edition to the tried and true formula. I’m interested to hear from the developers on why they chose to remove this feature, and I’m hoping it’s not just because everyone hates on the game for its censorship and questionable music style, because right now it feels like they avoided looking at the third game altogether.
The lack of sprinting and rolling really hits hard when you have to face SOR3 enemies like Ruby and Gold. These characters were designed so the player uses those skills to avoid their attacks. Can't wait to get the SOR3 retro characters unlocked. At least SOR4 Adam has a dash.
So it turns out some of the characters can dash and/or run, but Axel got his manoeuvrability nerfed the most, I guess 90% of us didn’t notice because we only pick Axel! Still, it sucks that they took his sprint away, Adam has a dash ability so I might just use him instead.
Been playing this all day with my buds online. It's amazing and deep. Fantastic package made with lots of care and detail. The stages are eye popping beautiful. Hopefully this will sound a return of 2D games!
Oh i know jackson! Im waiting for the same thing, and i am NOT patiently waiting lol. And i had no idea they had a 3d streets of rage on the 3ds, lucky bloody you
3D Streets of Rage 2 is amazing. Love the 3D effect (so immersive especially on N3DSXL). Local wireless multiplayer is also great. My favorite version of the game.
Got the game yesterday and It is GREAT! Games like this and Sonic Mania show that 16bit classic games are still relevant in the newer generation. The game is free with Xbox game pass and that was a huge Surprise!!!! good gob for a game well made!! KEEP GAMES LIKE THIS COMING AND I WILL BUY THEM!
It's wild to think we not only got a new Sakura Wars AND a new Streets of Rage, but within a couple days of each other! It's just so good to see classic SEGA franchises coming back like this
Over the years i've played SoR Remake extensively, i never expected SoR4 to be nearly as good but it is even better. SoR4 looks, sounds and plays like a dream. I hope Sega brings back Shinobi, Golden Axe and other forgotten series in the same manner. And boy, i cannot get over how deliciously thicc Blaze is.
Loved your insight on how other people criticized this game for something it is not intended to be at all. Very well put! Thanks for the great content! I've been watching you for over an year and you never fail do deliver the goods.
I recently got Streets of Rage 4 for my Switch and it’s a worthy sequel to the original 16 bitt trilogy that adds new content while respecting the series and while I wasn’t fond of the new soundtrack at first but it’s really grown on me a lot so much that I really like it now.
Streets of rage remix gives classic adam special moves comparable to those found in streets of rage 2-3. Too bad sega pulled the plug on that one. A truely great SoR game as well
I'm so glad we're in an age where it's easy to access other reviews and opinions on games. Unlike the 5th and 6th gen where the internet was very limited and there only so many magazines that you could choose from and you had to pay for them too. Ign can eat shit for all I care, great review SLX! I can't wait for Limited Run copy to come in
Im 36 so of course I bought SOR4 at day 1. One word: MASTERPIECE. I was afraid, as seen in other revivals / remakes, they would have tried to "evolve" too much the basic mechanics but, besides obviously more combos and fighting skills, they didn't ruin the sor's core. Best 22 euros spent on Steam, ever!
I've been playing since the og Genesis days, I honestly love these games, and I'm really looking forward to playing this new entry in the series, these games r amazing! 💯😃 Just subbed, great non-spoiler review, I appreciate it!
A very good review of a great title from a great series. Those whom don't believe so are probably not old enough to have played the originals and therefore aren't qualified to comment.
Yes... Have been waiting for this since I heard SOR 4 released .. Di you say this word, my Lord ? (Sorry not yet finish watching the video actually) It PLAYS like Streets of Rage. It LOOKS like Streets of Rage. It SOUNDS like Streets of Rage. It FEELS like Streets of Rage.

I've spent many hours with this game, having beaten Arcade Mode solo up to Hardest difficulty, and I never knew you could alter the music and healing food items. So glad I decided to watch this, because no one else that I know of has mentioned it.
I fire streets of rage 4 up from time to time just because of how awesome it is! As a fan of the series. As soon as the title screen hit It put a smile and a tear on my face. I always remember those countless hours me and my brother put into SOR3. I love this series! Awesome review SLX!
it's not been a long wait for me, i've played several Beats of Rage games, including Bomber Games own SOR Remake which needs to be played by every fan!
Honestly I'm not a huge fan of the art style on 4, it's too clean for Streets. I wish they'd gone with a detailed pixel art like Kof or a 2d/3d engine similar to Guilty Gear. The animation looks great, just don't love the style.
There were a few games I played with my Pop when I was younger, and those games have never aged in my eyes. SOR was probably the only co-op title out of the handful of games we bonded over, and the franchise has always been dear to me. Only Sega Lord X could review this game properly, and I'll be stoked to get a copy or two!
Retro gamers are too busy playing retro games. Modern retro revivals for the nostalgia market have much younger defenders and I agree 100% that they suck.
Streets of Rage is dope! it's about time an arcade style game has made a comeback. these cinema style role planing games are dope too, but they are over done and are intimidating if you have been out of gaming for a while...like if the last sports game you played is "Lakers v. Celtics" and games like "BLACK". this Streets of Rage is refreshing
I didnt know until earlier today this was a thing. I am soo excited to sit down tomorrow and geek out. This was one of my all time favorite walk down the street beat me ups!!!
If you change language to Japan you get Bare Knuckle 4. Also I like how the retro characters go for the Bare Knuckle 3 colour pallet. Not the horrible Streets of Rage 3 colours. Awesome game.
It’s 2 in the morning right now. I have to be up early to go work in a few hours, and you upload a video. Yeah, I guess I have to stay awake a bit longer.
Dotemu has been hitting it out of the park in recent years. Both Streets of Rage 4 & TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge are phenomenal games & serve as such a great love letter to those of us who grew up playing side-scrolling, beat ‘em ups back in the day.
The music in this game is absolutely phenomenal not what I had in mind but much different than what I thought and it is beautiful I hope Sega gets a lot of these type of remakes 2D and 3D
this game is amazing, SEGA nailed the look and feel of Streets of Rage while bringing it into the modern era. buy it! this is a game that deserves support.
I'm a classic gamer. Newer titles just don't have the grab of the old ones, mostly due to feature bloat. They add an unnecessary learning curve, that I pick up on quickl, but leads to largely ignoring the micro systems. So a game like this is perfect for me.
I feel like the classic characters have a higher output damage and the sr1 characters definitely have a longer reach. I'm glad the classics at least have the tech roll too. This game is the shit worth the money. Good points at the end of the video.
When I heard the announcement that streets of rage 4 was coming out! I grabbed my Sega genesis controller and replayed the previous titles just to prepare and I was not disappointed! This game is fire! I throughly enjoyed my entire playthrough and my replays! Great review here!
You know what makes SoR special to me? It seems like it's only important to me, cause nobody else mentions it. The difficulty. This game was designed for home consoles, and it shows. There is nothing unfair about it and nothing is unpredictable. If I play a Beat Em Up on MAME, anything goes and your char cycles between random attacks, bosses can block your attacks at random and not after a specific hit count, and so on... Plus, in Arcade games, you take so much damage from each and everything. It's basically like with grinding. It shows when a game is designed around spending extra money. And SoR isn't.
The game is just great!! I used to play streets of rage on the genesis back to back with my friends,this one very well done,and the music is awesome too
I finished the story mode twice in normal difficulty. I agree with you, this is a visual masterpiece! Playability is fantastic. Music is awesome! This is a FANTASTIC Street of Rage game!!!!
I played the hell out of SOR 1,2,3 back in the day but my first experience was the original at the sears in the fashion square mall in charlottesville in 1991 Can't wait till I get to play this one
SOR4 is a great title and I love the cartoon pixel graphics. It reminds of the 32-bit 2D games era. Hopefully they can release expansion edition with all the little missing content ideas from you and previous SOR games. Hopefully the next sequel with graphics similar to the upcoming game called the last night for the xbox one. Sega and other gaming developers from the late 80s and 90s to bring back their ip's to this era of gaming.

@@RetiredMegatron I only seen as an easter egg but not playable, even according to the player unlock listing.
My initial impressions of the game were good, but the Sega Lord X endorsement is what I was waiting for.
Best SEGA channel on TH-cam!
Really mach? Damn, thought i got the best version, well i can quickly change that lol. Thanks man, i want those trading cards!!!
I picked up the limited vinyl today! Signed by yuzo koshiro! :D
Sold out within MINUTES! Probably less than 5 minutes. Unbelievable.
@@dcbfan1231 it was crazy! I had to set an alarm and wake up early 😂
They should do a prequel where the villain is Great Great Granny T.
Yo, Sega Lord. Just wanted you to know that this review was so fire I watched it twice. Your channel is top tier. So thanks for making videos, you're awesome dude
Pros:
- nice graphics style;
- very good sound and music;
- Blaze outfit;
- special attack work in combo;
- online coop;
- price - only 5,99 $
Cons:
- no run/roll;
- Axel outfit;
- Adam outfit;
- no alternative outfits;
- new characters;
- only 1 special (blitz) attack, when you earn score stars your blitz attacks are upgraded in 2-3 SoR (or use secret moves)
@MultiTarded it's subjective. I love it.
Cons:
- no run/roll;
Yeah bummer , would of made the game play much faster paced
Cherry can run circles around the enemy and Adam has a dash.
-cons: pusedo reviewers bitching and moaning
@@Prizrak-hv6qk It's still better than SoR 3 though..
I'm glad this didn't turn out like Bethesda's "new" Commander Keen
Big props to the devs
I know im happy with how the game turned out. Reminds me of my youth. Unlocking characters and secrets. No loot boxes, just good old fashion fun and i love the 4 player integration. Cant wait to try it with my buds down the road. The soundtrack is not bad either.
The review I was waiting on! Wished they had a switch to pixel art stages like Wonder Boy!
I spent a ton of time over the years playing Bomber Games SOR Remake, which is amazing. After that experiance I was pretty skeptical that anyone would be able to pull off a worthy SOR sequel. But they manged to do it, and tie all the characters together in a new story without it being lame. Bravo!
"Bringing this ANCIENT series" I see what you did there =3
"It was only a matter of time" said no one ever waiting for this video, because we all new it was coming
Awesome
This game is great but very bare bones.. I would imagine the DLC is arriving soon. New Levels with motorcycles, new characters, new bosses, skins and some more bells and whistles. DO IT!!
I ordered the physical version from limited run games so I’m waiting for that but I can’t wait to go through it. I also got river city girls so I’m on a beat em up kick.
River city girls is *chef kiss* magnificent. I also highly recommend River City Underground.
@@jaykelley103 Is it on Switch?
I own 2 games for Switch: Sonic Mania and Street of Rage 4. Sega does!!
Buy also Ninja Saviors, it a great remake of Ninja Warriors Again (Snes), you can find it on eBay for relatively cheap!
I wish they would have included more of the neon green/blue/pink aesthetic from the Genesis games but it still looks good.
This game is full of innovations! The combo system, the options, the gauge, the desperation moves...
I kind of wonder if the reviewers who claim it's "not innovative enough" actually bothered to play the game for very long and if they ever actually played the first 3.
Love the addition of the combo system.
Finally a truly honest opinion. I still swear we was raised in the same house. Stay well.
@@Ashura96if you can unlock the SOR3 version of the characters, does that mean that maybe they have their sprint abilities intact?
Yeah, without running and dodging it feels like a step back for me.
Funny that If you watch the game oppening It ends with Axel running really fast. Cant do that in the game!
Patiently waiting on my physical copy from Limited Run. Playing 3D Streets of Rage 2 on my Nintendo 3DS until then.
“Super Milf Blaze Fielding...” lol had to skip back to make sure I had that correctly
It's wild to think we not only got a new Sakura Wars AND a new Streets of Rage, but within a couple days of each other! It's just so good to see classic SEGA franchises coming back like this
I was waiting for your review, glad I did.
Can’t wait for the Shiva mod.
Oh yeah, it will be awesome!
Loved your insight on how other people criticized this game for something it is not intended to be at all. Very well put! Thanks for the great content! I've been watching you for over an year and you never fail do deliver the goods.
Going out to the shop to buy it right now! I loved the original ones
drunkensailor112 I can’t find it
@@cartman9413 me neither. However the shop owner told me he is receiving some physical copies and he will hold one for me. I don't want this digitally
I bought it last night and all my fears were put to rest. They've done an incredible job. Great review.
The best 20 bucks I’ve spent in the past 6 months.
Wait so this game is only $20
Iconic_Philosopher Yeah it's cheap and it's well worth every cent.
Its 25
It's 22.49. 10 percent off
I recently got Streets of Rage 4 for my Switch and it’s a worthy sequel to the original 16 bitt trilogy that adds new content while respecting the series and while I wasn’t fond of the new soundtrack at first but it’s really grown on me a lot so much that I really like it now.
Streets of rage remix gives classic adam special moves comparable to those found in streets of rage 2-3. Too bad sega pulled the plug on that one. A truely great SoR game as well
It was Streets of Rage Remake, actually, but thanks anyway ;)
I'm so glad we're in an age where it's easy to access other reviews and opinions on games. Unlike the 5th and 6th gen where the internet was very limited and there only so many magazines that you could choose from and you had to pay for them too. Ign can eat shit for all I care, great review SLX! I can't wait for Limited Run copy to come in
Great game! It would be nice to play a new Final Fight game with upgrades graphics...
We now need remakes of Outrun Turbo Outrun Shinobi Shadow Dancer After Burner 2 Golden Axe Altered Beast Strider!!!!
Blaze is still on 'FIRE'. XD ♥
It’s a French game ! BRAVO !!! Vive la France 🇫🇷
I've been playing since the og Genesis days, I honestly love these games, and I'm really looking forward to playing this new entry in the series, these games r amazing! 💯😃
Just subbed, great non-spoiler review, I appreciate it!
Great review as always. I've ordered three limited edition megadrive boxed version. Can't wait!
A very good review of a great title from a great series. Those whom don't believe so are probably not old enough to have played the originals and therefore aren't qualified to comment.
not just old enough, but dont know "gaming" my 13 year old son LOVED it....
Yes... Have been waiting for this since I heard SOR 4 released .. Di you say this word, my Lord ? (Sorry not yet finish watching the video actually)
It PLAYS like Streets of Rage.
It LOOKS like Streets of Rage.
It SOUNDS like Streets of Rage.
It FEELS like Streets of Rage.
bpcgos my lord?!!?! Sounds pretty gay bro
@@wussup12345 It is ...? Did you mean gay like in sexual orientation or something else ?? Sorry, maybe cultural difference making it sounds weird because its means as honorary title as far as I knew regarding to 'My Lord" words being used... (Im not came from english speaking country, so pardon me..)
I've spent many hours with this game, having beaten Arcade Mode solo up to Hardest difficulty, and I never knew you could alter the music and healing food items. So glad I decided to watch this, because no one else that I know of has mentioned it.
This game looks as its predecessors but much more beautiful. I love streets of rage
This game is awesome. I bought yesterday for PS4 and now ordered Limited Edition for Switch.
The original SOR soundtracks are among the best music tracks in the entire videogame industry.
I fire streets of rage 4 up from time to time just because of how awesome it is! As a fan of the series. As soon as the title screen hit It put a smile and a tear on my face. I always remember those countless hours me and my brother put into SOR3. I love this series! Awesome review SLX!
Someone disliked this video before even watching it... Christ
I actually have morons subbed to me just so they can neg my vids.
I absolutely want to get this game so badly.
@@SegaLordX thats messed up
Dont worry, I like it before I even finished watch it... : )
Sheng Long is back!!! - Imagine being so miserable you take joy in trying to ruin someone you’ve never met. It boggles the mind.
it's not been a long wait for me, i've played several Beats of Rage games, including Bomber Games own SOR Remake which needs to be played by every fan!
Cheers !
SLX: I wont spoil anything
also SLX Proceeds to show adam gameplay
They showed Adam gameplay in the fucking trailers.
@@darkchild130 he's in the game intro
Got your ass cooked trying to look smart. Lol
When you sign off with your name that 'X' is so unique I look forward to it every time
Honestly I'm not a huge fan of the art style on 4, it's too clean for Streets. I wish they'd gone with a detailed pixel art like Kof or a 2d/3d engine similar to Guilty Gear. The animation looks great, just don't love the style.
Nights into Dreams... next please, Sega.
looks like a solid game. but i still don't like the art style that looks like a western drawn fake anime wannabe
Grant H Lee me neither , I wish it looked like guilty gear and the characters didn’t look so mini... gravity rush maybe
@@48hourrecordsteam45 Guilty Gear is hot garbage.
These art style is so anime and cartoonish but it's a classic game in a more modern day style
Making a game for most annoying type of human beings on the planet: retro gamers.
Right on, hopefully this will innovate and inspire developers to create better aaa games which been lacking since the 7th gen gaming era.
First Niggah
You've come a long way since your early morbib monotone commentary videos which I found entertaining in a different way...keep up the good work!
Someone Get LizardCube to do Comix Zone reboot on the same engine!
I really enjoy your content; I hope you and everyone here continues to enjoy games from/inspired by our childhood(s).
this game is amazing, SEGA nailed the look and feel of Streets of Rage while bringing it into the modern era. buy it! this is a game that deserves support.
I'm a classic gamer. Newer titles just don't have the grab of the old ones, mostly due to feature bloat. They add an unnecessary learning curve, that I pick up on quickl, but leads to largely ignoring the micro systems. So a game like this is perfect for me.
This is the best review of any game i have ever personally witnessed!...THANKYOU!
I feel like the classic characters have a higher output damage and the sr1 characters definitely have a longer reach. I'm glad the classics at least have the tech roll too. This game is the shit worth the money. Good points at the end of the video.
I'm here for all of your SEGA content. Love it dude! Keep it up!
I played the hell out of SOR 1,2,3 back in the day but my first experience was the original at the sears in the fashion square mall in charlottesville in 1991
Can't wait till I get to play this one
SOR4 is a great title and I love the cartoon pixel graphics. It reminds of the 32-bit 2D games era. Hopefully they can release expansion edition with all the little missing content ideas from you and previous SOR games.
Hopefully the next sequel with graphics similar to the upcoming game called the last night for the xbox one. Sega and other gaming developers from the late 80s and 90s to bring back their ip's to this era of gaming.
