I feel you're really under selling the SoR4 characters here, for example, you're axel combo still works if you cancel into Grand upper before the final kick that knocks them away, you can then cancel grand upper into his offencive special for a ton of damage, and even better, you can then use the jumping special to roll into them when they hit the ground for further damage AND re launch them for a juggle. Blaze too can use her Blitz attack to relaunch enemies after her bread and butter damage, then jump kick twice into air special.
Absolutely. I was already pushing it with a 20 min video, but those things are definitely worth talking about. For me personally, I'd rather be able to sprint than have those combos. I'm definitely just set in playing SOR the way I would on the Genesis.
@@astateofgaming I can see that, Though I personally miss the vertical roll more than the sprint, but those two tools are a huge loss. But I'm enjoying the combo potential enough to overlook it. Everyone has preferences though and its fantastic they'd put the old version in too so we get to make that choice. Overall, love the game.
I think so too. I actually prefer the SoR4 characters just because their combos are fun. After playing Fight N Rage... I think that's the way of the future for beat em ups. You complicate the fighting just a bit more and all of a sudden it gets really interesting what you can do with wall bounces and juggles. Things like that really give a game longevity. I think he sort of covered it in saying that "a lot of these options will cost you health" , eg combo cancel to blitz to cancel to offensive special cancel to star move etc. Adds a depth and risk vs reward element as you have to now recover the offensive special damage without being hit, even in combos.
@@astateofgaming You see that so use the length of your video as an excuse and draw an incorrect conclusion? I expected this video to teach some techniques but its far from that. as Twisted said with combo or stop at the first kick(or before) then start again after a pause or jump down attack and attack again (only the 4 cast can do this) or neutral jump attack
Floyd also can grab guys, then electrocute them, while holding them, when you press the special move button. I like using it to finish off bosses, because it looks cool in slow motion.
Everyone forgets about that move but its actually really good. It will also electrocute nearby enemies and is great cc for multiplayer. Only downside is that it costs quite a bit of hp on harder difficulties
Best SoR4 Axel combo I've found to use is 4 hit combo while moving forward, front grab, knee attacks to lift up, 4 hit combo again straight into Grand Upper.
SOR 4 Axel can special cancel his moves. He can do a grand upper to a neutral or forward special. SOR 4 characters can also do a drop attack to another follow up move while in mid air. So the combo potential is definitely there for SOR 4 characters.
Absolutely. They've got some really fun options. SoR3 Axel is still best suited for my personal play style, but I'll consider making videos that better demonstrate the SoR4 characters.
I was playing SoR2 on mobile and when I saw that SoR4 was available, I had to drop that quick and get it. I didn't play SoR3 before so I wasn't aware of the base characters sprinting and tumbling. I do miss the nostalgia of beat 'em ups. I have no regrets making the purchase and I'm getting back to experimenting with the other characters now that I've unlocked them all. This vid is very informative and helpful. Thank you for posting this.

I think it was intentional to make the SOR3 chars more unique, and also to balance the SOR 4 chars. I dislike that they made changes to the retro chars though. I'm happy with 4 updates like catching items and wall bounce, I would have like to have seen them preserved: Skate could only run horizontally, which is why SOR3's all characters behind able to run in all directions was significant. Max's slide didn't hit laying opponents, it's annoying that it does now as knocking them over then sliding behind them while they're laying, to grab them as they get up, was one of the strategies I would use to hit land his jumping back breaker. Also worked if slid from far enough, the slide would stun them without knocking them over allowing you to recover from it in reverse grab and hook the jumping back breaker.
This game plays unfair. It needs more defensive ability. When it decides to screw you, it totally screws you. Not a skill based game but a luck based game, especially on certain boss fights.
Agreed! The SOR3 sprint and dodge moves give more control of avoiding enemies and potential danger. If there is a continuation in the series, hopefully those moves will be added to the characters. Good video. Thank you for sharing.
SuperDuper after 25 years and hardcore fans are going crazy for finally playing the 4 installment of the franchise I don’t see why wouldn’t they add more goodies later on to get the replay value good
Sean션사랑로사나 yeah, makes sense, I was just wondering if it was doable, mainly from an economic standpoint and all that, you know adding new characters means making new animations and drawings and I don't know how we're sales for this game to cover all that. Anyway the game is great, I'm a beat em up fan and since punisher and capcom's predator that I wasn't so hooked to a classic beat em up
What Rondy says at 11:27 hits me really hard, and I completely share in his sentiment. As a kid who missed Streets of Rage 2 & 3 on Genesis but absolutely played the crap out of 1, I could not be happier about the comeback and perfection that is Streets of Rage 4. This is literally a game I never thought I'd see in my lifetime. Also Rondy thanks for the amazing video detailing the gameplay fundamentals. Exactly what I was looking for.
I think ultimately, the issue that is plagueing this video is the title: The words "How to Use All Characters" denotes a high level type mastery over all the mechanics of the game that breaks down every approach on how to use the characters while something more like "character movelist" or "character basics" has a more general beginner-friendly vibe that you may have been looking for. Also, i totally get your frustrations about the loss of running & dodging - SOR3 is my fav of the trilogy as well. But it's also the least popular entry as compared to most popular, which is SOR2, which the developers based this game heavily around. So if you approach this as a revamp of 2 rather than a sequel to 3, you should be fine.
It also has a bug. If you stand just a little above the line the enemy is on, the jabs will infinitely hit without the kick ending the combo. Unless the enemy uses armor. SOR 1 Axel is the strongest imo.
I was excited that I saw a Streets of Rage 4 I downloaded it on my nintendo switch immediately and was impressed of the animated art work and the classic game play. I too was a tiny bit bummed out that Axel is a bit slower but yet a bit STRONGER. Axel was my most favorite character in the Sega days. I think it's awesome you can play online with other people and how you can play up to 4 players on story mode. I wonder if there will be a Streets of Rage 5 and if so it would be interesting to see Skate make an appearance and hopefully all characters to run and dash roll side to side.
Totally agree, The lack of sprint absolutely infuriated me starting out in the game, I took to Cherry very quickly and continue to do so while i rack up the points to unlock the classic characters. But still love the game regardless. One thing I was super happy about was the return of Yuzo Koshiro as one of the music composers
Likes the video, thanks! One remark, there is one more throwing in SOR1: let an enemy grab you from behind, hit JUMP and then ATTACK and you will through the enemy as well :)
yo great video man! I, like many others, am a newcomer to the series. That being said I'm totally obsessed and hearing the history of the mechanics is awesome. This also makes me super excited to try out all the old characters. Gotta go grind out those points!
Thanks for your comment! 3 weeks later, I'm sure you've had some epic moments and have probably found a favorite character. Hope you've enjoyed the game!
Even better, in this game you can begin holding the jump button as soon as you are sent flying! Much easier than the perfectly timed Up + C of the past.
hold? Hahaha...I still living in the past...been doing the timing since I started playing the game...i agree with Axel of SOR3...better mobility all around
punipunipyo I always hold up+jump the moment I'm thrown and it always works even in the first SOR, sure the instruction manuals told us to time it back then but I quickly found it that was not necessary, never got damaged by a throw ever again. But I'm in Europe, maybe that's how the move works here and they have to time it in American versions? Though in Bare Knuckle I'm pretty sure holding it works too, at least in BK3
A State of Gaming Nope. I have tested it on the first stage with Y.Signal. Holding the Jump button wouldn’t work. You’ll need to time the landing. Won’t need to press Up by the way; just Jump on landing. It works against other attacks that sends you flying too, and you get a brief invulnerability frame on landing.
Great video. I didn't know the depth to the move-list in this game. I like all the attacks available it adds variety to the playstyle. Also the historical movesets tied in perfectly to part 4 which was educating & really interesting as well. I'm glad I clicked on this video. I appreciate the knowledge you shared with us.
Thanks alot for this man, SoR means alot to all of us. Played part 1 thirty years ago with my now deceased brother. Who's old? I'm not old, you're old.
Great video - really appreciate the breakdown. nice and clearly explained and the differences highlighted between the characters from each version was done well. like you, I played this when I was 10 and apart from SOR3 - which I never played due to not being too keen on the graphics (it just looked a bit unfinished compared to SOR2). SOR1 + 2 was brilliant. and it's nice to see the moves being carried over into this game, especially with the original button config. I've seen the new button layout which I'm not too sure of. hence I am glad they still have the original button style. inclusion of original music is a nice touch too.
It's worth noting that while Shiva can't run indefinitely like he could in 3, you can still spam the dash and it functions almost the same and makes him by far the fastest character in the game. It takes a bit of getting use to if you played him in 3 because you can't just stop running wherever you want to start attacking (without using the blitz). You have to ride out the preset dash length before you can use a basic combo or grab, otherwise use his blitz attack while in the dash animation. However 1 major difference with his dash is that you can use it to move through an enemy and get on their backside, which is very useful for those annoying shield enemies.
For your Axel combo bit with the old man, you could simple cancel out your double-kick into a dash attack. Say.. Instead of doing the two kicks, just do the one kick, and it'll work.
I prefer the versions where that isn't required, but it's worth pointing out. SoR4 characters have plenty of combos, losing the sprint is really the biggest inconvenience for me.
Thanks for this. I too share the same sentiments. This franchise has a special place for me as an avid fan. Overall the new sor4 is almost perfect. I see the developers paid attention to small details, like the 1st level having a car smash into the wall. That was going to be for sor2 in the 1st level but due to technical issues it didn’t happen. I too agree that the running and roll should had been kept from sor3 because sor4 is crazy when enemies come out everywhere. That’s why I love Adam because he’s the closest to sprint quickly. I’m just glad we got a new SOR game. It’s really well made.
Adam is my favorite SoR4 character to use, with SoR3 Axel being my favorite overall. But yes, it's clear that this game was made by people who truly love and understand the originals.
Great video. The only thing I might have missed you talking about is that Blaze can do a light combo with weapons, unlike the others. Learned a lot from this. Thank you.
Thanks! Yeah, Blaze has a long history of being handy with a knife lol. Things like that, and the fact Max and Floyd have weapon attacks which also hit behind them just didn't make it. I missed quite a few things unfortunately.
@@blackphoenix77 The hipsters who made THIS (not the older SOR) game wanted to forget about SOR 3/BK 3, but kept the story intact. So they were more on the SOR 2/BK 2 approach with story detail mechanics of SOR 3/BK 3.
Actually in 1 Axel is weirdly enough the slow character. He has the worst mobility in the game but has the best offense, having Adams damage with Blaze’s combo potential. It was only in 2 onward that they started making more sense with the differences.
The only notable thing about SoR1 Axel is how utterly terrible his jump kick is lol. Jokes aside, yeah Axel has been my main even since those days. He's the man.
I’m just here to express my love for the game. Yes @A State of Gaming I too had the luxury to experience the previous installments with my older brother as well. Staying up late even on week days knowing I have school in the morning. Sega would crash sometimes and we would take the cartridge out and blow in it and keep going lol. Looking out the window seeing the sun rise just as it did towards the end of the game was one of the best feelings as a kid. I’m in my 30s now but I can still relive those moments that none of these kids today would understand
Oh and lastly, on SOR2 I used to go to the options menu just to listen to some of my favorite songs. Sitting there all night listening to stage 8 music. Aww man I’m about to cry lol
I definitely feel this. The soundtrack makes me emotional as well. There's a way to fight Shiva and Mr. X from SoR2, and when Shiva used "Final Crash" I damn near teared up hearing that familiar sound from my childhood. My favorite tracks are probably Slow Moon (Stage 5 boat) from SoR2 and the SoR2 intro after the bass kicks in.
A State of Gaming I only played the old one on my older brothers gamegear back in the day and could never beat it but beat this one by myself the other week and online coop with my bro this past week. Games a blast.
Welcome back to gaming. I was so waiting for this game to come out when I heard about it. I got when first came out to play store no regrets! The music is excellent as well and the game play is so much fun! I hope that they make a 5! I'm so happy they made this game!
Super-fun & chill introduction; thanks! I had a Genesis, but never played the Streets games outside of the arcade. Looking forward to playing 4 w/my kids!
I'm conflicted that they didn't change SOR4 Axel too much. The only thing new they gave him was Ken's special uppercut from Street Fighter. Oh, and the aerial special.
Yeah I feel like he was designed to be familiar and comfortable for returning players. They put the fancy stuff on other characters for when the player wants to expand. As an Axel main, it is a little disappointing. BUT perfectly nostalgic...conflicting thoughts indeed.
Very good video man another thing you might not of known about the streets of rage 2 characters is that you could use skate as a weapon by throwing him at enemies for extra damage. He is easily my favorite character his combos and grab combos are amazing I do like Max a lot too. Streets of Rage 2 has always been a long time favorite of mine the music and art styles were amazing I'm glad 4 implemented a lot of that retro sound and newer beauty. Great video it will help the new players a lot.
The nostalgia you speak of is palpable haha. I get that when I play borderlands with my sister. Never played Streets of Rage as a kid but it's a great co op game to play with my gf!
We are the same bro.. This series holds a lot of fun memories for my brother & me too. Unfortunately, he didn't continue gaming after PS2 but i hope to relive those memories again by inviting him over to play SoR 4 since he doesn't own a PS4.
Wow man...my older brother stopped at the PS2 as well. I'd love to play this game with him, but I honestly don't know if I ever will. You take care man.
@@astateofgaming Whoa!.... What are the odds.. Well.. I had my bro come over earlier this mth & we played the heck out of SoR4 & had a blast. Hope u will get to do so with ur bro as well bro..
Did I miss it or star moves of SoR 2-3 cast weren't shown here? For example Shiva's look like combination of blitz attack variations (they used to change depending on number of stars).
I only showed SoR3 Axel, while mentioning they were added to the classic roster. Same mentality that went into only showing the SoR3 Blaze weapon + blitz. The video is way too long.
Awesome video for an awesome video game past and present. Played the originals likewise back in the day with older bros. Tips and tricks video for trophy collection!?!
You forgot to mention that in Sor3, more stars means more forward+forward+B combos. With 3 stars, you get the same result as an A button special, but without losing any life.
@charlibiris if I remember correctly (it's been a few years) one of the top row buttons on the 6 button pad was mapped directly to blitz (the other two were for back attack and haymaker). By pressing forward and the button you'd do the basic blitz. Quarter circle forwards plus the button gave you the tier 2 blitz Half circle forwards plus the button gave you the tier 3 blitz
Great breakdown of the basics. Please make another of these for the new characters in the dlc. I never played past SoR2 as a kid so I'm not familiar with Roo. Some people may disagree with your opinion about favoring the mobility of SoR3 characters above the fight mechanics for SoR4 but who gives a damn? Your breakdowns are great.
As of the DLC, almost everything is moot because you can now spam Blitz into neutral Special for most characters and have total invincibility as long as you hit the Blitz.
Totally watched the whole thing! I'm a huge fan like you. I enjoy playing as Cherry the most, her dash attack is unstoppable and she can bounce on enemies heads with her down jump attack.
Wow i've been playing the game since it came out and i've only known about a few things just by accident. Your vid has raught me a lot and i thank you for that 🤙
Cool to see the different perspective for me as I was obsessed with SOR2 as a kid where your jam was SOR3. They definitely brought the play style more similar to SOR2 in this game but with their own twists and tricks which I absolutely loved. I never felt like I need to soar through the game as a kid which was why I was perfectly content with no sprint option.
I'm still obsessed with SoR2. Every game in the series is a masterpiece. When I started this game I walked into the bottom left corner looking for a 1Up. For me, everything about SoR2 is better except for the way the characters control. It's hard for me to go back after experiencing the upgrades.
So refreshing to see a video made by somebody else who also favors SOR3 over the others! I think they're all great, but SOR3 is definitely my favorite. It was the pinnacle of the original trilogy, hands down simply based on it's tech and features alone. Running, combat rolling, the special meter, it's all so damned refined and I just don't get how everyone shits on SOR3 all the time in favor of SOR2. Again, I love all of them. They're all masterpieces in my opinion, but I find SOR2 is the most painful and difficult to go back to after playing SOR3. SOR2 just feels so goddamn slow and chuggy in comparison to SOR1 and 3. I think people just despised it because of the music and how ridiculously difficult it was, at least in the case of the North American and European versions. Bare Knuckle 3 is much better in my opinion but SOR3 is still great. But yeah, it pissed me right the fuck off when I heard/figured out they got rid of running and rolling in SOR4 in the months leading up to it's release. It was almost a deal breaker for me. I knew I was gonna buy SOR4 and play the shit out of it but I was worried I'd never be able to love it like I did the others. Either way, I was just stoked for MORE STREETS OF RAGE, FUCKING FINALLY, ALL THESE YEARS LATER. Then they released the "Retro Reveal Trailer" or whatever it was called and all my worries were swept away. I totally thought SOR4 wouldn't be able to touch Streets of Rage Remake in terms of staying true to the originals and offering massive replayability. Now, after finally getting my hands on this historic game of lifetime destiny, I gotta say SOR4 and SORR are fucking neck and neck when I think about which is best and boy am I sure relieved to be able to have that sort of argument with myself and others. XD SOR4 knocked it outta the fucking park, just like I hoped it would. It gives me almost everything I wanted in a sequel to SOR3 AND MORE! Long live SOR! :)
I feel this. Just like you said, all of the games are a masterpiece, but SoR3 is objectively superior in terms of tech and control. SoR2 is deeply nostalgic for me. The soundtrack, stages and enemies are all iconic. If I could play through SoR2 with the mechanics from 3 I'd do that all day. And yes, Axel is the man.
Thanks so much for making this, very helpful and educational. Particularly appreciated your opinion on the design choice of removing running and also agree its less fun, I think this is especially felt by first time players.
Hey fellow fighter! Excellent, EXCELLENT video and thank you for doing the work on posting. It has re-RE-awakened my love for this series. One thing I noticed is no mention of the Up+A rebound from being launched. I only learned this from many years of being assaulted. If you are tossed you can tap UP and ATK to land safely without the lag of getting up. Also I noticed some characters get hit harder than others so I feel "how hard you can take a punch" is a factor. Either way, Love what you did. Keep fighting, the streets are still FULL OF RAGE in 2010.
Your SOR3 nostalgia is super strong. Don't discount SOR1 or 2 fans that really don't care about running and rolling. Also don't discount the unique new features of the SOR4 characters. I see this was discussed in other comments so I won't belabor it. Gave you a thumbs up for taking the time to show all of the characters and what all their moves are.
I appreciate your comment, and your understanding that I'm inundated with opinions. I'm grateful to have an audience, but a bit bothered when something I worked on for 6 hours and don't get paid to do (this channel is a hobby) is met with frustrated entitlement. Like dang...I don't even have to make videos for ya'll.
I remember in the old sega days, me and my fam would see a character and wish he was unlockable cause he had sick moves. Then when you unlock him, they take his best moves away or they don't the same damage as they do as bosses lol. That used to piss me off lol.
on streets of rage 3 emulators about a decade ago the star feature was available, I can't remember if it was present on console way back when, but thanks for the detailed video! Keep em coming!
Thank you for making this video I can’t believe they removed the run and roll from SOR3 I think I’ll be playing as SOR3 axel myself too when I unlock him
Thanks! The game is really fun, and every character has their moments. But yeah, that run really is important to me. Seems to be a big debate in my comments lol.
14:55 whilst Axel's second kick knocks the opponent too far away to connect the Grand Upper, I believe you can cancel the first kick into it if you're quick?
Yes. SoR4 Avel's punch combo connects into grand upper if you input the grand upper just after the first kick. You can even buffer the directional inputs.
I'd say take another look at sor4 axel I do agree sor3 axel got it all but sor4 axel has an extra aerial move plus the combos can be even greater on sor4 axel, btw you can do aerial combos into air specials making combo extenders with sor4 characters really satisfying
i sub'd to your channel because apart from the info, i also grew up playing Streets of Rage 2 (Bare Knuckles 2 in my part of the world) ... and this series was how me and my cousin bonded. i guess its one of those games that forged our closeness that we still have as adults. i love how the game maintained the essence of beat em ups, and even bringing in some throwbacks from the past. my cousin couldnt remember everything as vividly as i did, but it was a trip running the SOR 4 from start to finish with him via remote play. Now, if there is only a way for Nintendo to do Double Dragon 3 back ... that game, along with double dragon 2 was one of the best i had on the NES (family computer). i hope they'd see the success of SOR 4 and be inspired to remake or continue double dragon using the new mechanics.
Thank you! Streets of Rage played a huge role in the bond between my older brother and I. If you haven't already, I highly recommend playing through the game using the classic soundtrack. Also, if you break the arcade machines using a taser, you'll get sent into SoR2 boss fights. It's a real treat.
Great video. I agree that the movement mechanics for this game is the only thing I don't like about it unless you use the SoR3 characters. Maybe they will make an update on the game and put in the roll and rush for all the characters. It may make the game move a little faster. Thanks for the tutorial. I just got the game yesterday and it was needed.

Agreed! The SOR3 sprint and dodge moves give more control of avoiding enemies and potential danger. If there is a continuation in the series, hopefully those moves will be added to the characters. Good video. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the comment!
I’m hoping for Estel and Roo also all bosses to be playable characters in a future update
Sean션사랑샌디 what do you think are the chances of that ?
Yes! I'm with you.
That would be great. I'm really confused as to why at least the original SoR3 Roo isn't playable.
Thank you for this. I really appreciate the comment.
I've found that SOR1 Axel if used right is amazing! His basic combo is so quick and he recovers from it faster than any other character in game.
SOR1 Axel is a beast. He absolutely melts the final boss.
I wouldn't have bought this had Skate not been in it. Crazy thing is Cherry plays like Skate making her my favorite character
Bruh you are everywhere i be seeing you on battle rap related videos too
She is my favorite too bruh
Totally agree, The lack of sprint absolutely infuriated me starting out in the game, I took to Cherry very quickly and continue to do so while i rack up the points to unlock the classic characters. But still love the game regardless.
One thing I was super happy about was the return of Yuzo Koshiro as one of the music composers
This guy gets it 👌
Likes the video, thanks! One remark, there is one more throwing in SOR1: let an enemy grab you from behind, hit JUMP and then ATTACK and you will through the enemy as well :)
Man, I forgot all about that until reading your comment. It's been so many years. Thanks!
The old pixels don’t even look half bad with the new art style levels 🔥
It's pretty cool!
Idk when they came out on switch but I'm so glad to get it now and appreciate the stats and differences
Yeah definitely a great game to play on the go! Doesn't take up too much time or attention.
yo great video man!
Tip: When you get hit and get thrown...time "Jump" the moment you hit the ground...^_^
Even better, in this game you can begin holding the jump button as soon as you are sent flying! Much easier than the perfectly timed Up + C of the past.
hold? Hahaha...I still living in the past...been doing the timing since I started playing the game...i agree with Axel of SOR3...better mobility all around
It used to be holding up+jump while being thrown
punipunipyo I always hold up+jump the moment I'm thrown and it always works even in the first SOR, sure the instruction manuals told us to time it back then but I quickly found it that was not necessary, never got damaged by a throw ever again. But I'm in Europe, maybe that's how the move works here and they have to time it in American versions? Though in Bare Knuckle I'm pretty sure holding it works too, at least in BK3
A State of Gaming
Nope.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate this comment!
This game really was created with love by people who truly appreciate the originals.
@@astateofgaming still I learned. Thanks this helped my game quite a bit.
Best video i found explaining the characters, this deserves more views
Thank you so much!
Agreed most excellent primer to SOR4. Thank you for breaking down the basic moves and naming each attack. This is how you do a guide video
Agreed. Good job
Yep, he explained everything i had questions about after playing for the 1st time. Great stuff!
It's probably just the name of the video or the thumbnail art, people are drawn to something flashier.
The Streets of Rage 3/Bare Knuckle 3 mechanic was my favorite. The running, tumbling, ok super meter, etc.
You get it!
I don't understand why they didn't let the SOR 4 characters do that.
@@blackphoenix77 The hipsters who made THIS (not the older SOR) game wanted to forget about SOR 3/BK 3, but kept the story intact. So they were more on the SOR 2/BK 2 approach with story detail mechanics of SOR 3/BK 3.
@@thunderlightning1980 I really wish that the people who made Streets of Rage Remake would have made SOR4
Great video, was looking for something like this and was very helpful and clearly you are passionate about this game.
Thanks! Streets of Rage is definitely an important part of my life.
A State of Gaming I only played the old one on my older brothers gamegear back in the day and could never beat it but beat this one by myself the other week and online coop with my bro this past week. Games a blast.
Great video. This franchise really means a lot to all of us who grew up playing it
Thanks! Couldn't agree more.
Thanks, I appreciate the comment! And it warms my heart that your kids may one day look back on Streets of Rage with the nostalgia that I do.
Absolutely loved these games on Sega, soon as I found out #4 was coming out I was on the watch. Got it on my laptop via Steam, love it 👍
I’ve been seeing this everywhere on insta - thanks for breaking it down!
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
Nostalgia is like, everything to me. It heavily influences all of my least popular opinions lol.
Thanks for calling SOR3 a masterpiece. I really love that game more than any and I hate that it usually gets overlooked
SOR3 Axel is the GOAT.
Definitely an awesome video. Now I see exactly what characters I can get. Definitely encourages me to pop it back in which I’ll do now.
Awesome video for an awesome video game past and present. Played the originals likewise back in the day with older bros. Tips and tricks video for trophy collection!?!
Thanks! I haven't thought about a trophy video tbh. I'm still at 67%. Getting "Maniac" and "100 Yen" might be above my skill level.
You forgot to mention Adam's powerful back kick. His donkey kick. Has become essential to any playthrough I do with him.
Super solid guide. I feel the same way with how you describe the original games.
You forgot to mention that in Sor3, more stars means more forward+forward+B combos. With 3 stars, you get the same result as an A button special, but without losing any life.
Additionally, you can hack use those star abilities with a six-button controller
@@Code18P how?
@charlibiris if I remember correctly (it's been a few years) one of the top row buttons on the 6 button pad was mapped directly to blitz (the other two were for back attack and haymaker).
By pressing forward and the button you'd do the basic blitz.
Quarter circle forwards plus the button gave you the tier 2 blitz
Half circle forwards plus the button gave you the tier 3 blitz
Amazing Video Mate. I share your nostalgic memories. I love this game!
Thanks! It's really incredible that this game exists!
Hey, thanks a lot. I really appreciate your kind words. If a breakdown of the DLC characters is something you'd like to see, then I'll make one.
Your vid has raught me a lot and i thank you for that 🤙
Happy to help!
Message from September 2021:
Thank you my man.
(Newcomer to SoR4)
I'm 8 months late, but I appreciate your comment!
XD
SOR4 knocked it outta the fucking park, just like I hoped it would.
Streets of rage is my favorite game on genesis, I still play 1-3 all the time.
Adam is the man! Easily the most fun th play with and create combos with.
I'll be playing 5 in 2045! Maybe Mr and Ms. Z can be the main enemy with a base on the moon or Mars :P
I got Streets of Rage back when it came out. Great memories.
I played 2, then 1, and got 3 when it came out. I miss those days.
SOR 3 Blaze is unstoppable, can counter almost everything with f,f,b.
My older brother's favorite character!
SOR1 Adam is a damage machine, and he gets the cop special so the final boss bot gets cooked instantly too. So good.
100% facts. SoR1 characters are crazy strong in this game.
Very helpful information thank you. I played through the entire game without knowing all the moves.
I appreciate your comment, and I'm glad that I could help!
@7:13 SOR 2 Axel lookin dead ass like a young Jean Claude Van Damm ne
100%
I hope that they release The Commissioner as a playable character. That dood is badass.
I'm shocked estel wasn't unlockable.
Commissioner is decent
don't forget about shiva sor4, roo and ash
Chris Wright same
I remember in the old sega days, me and my fam would see a character and wish he was unlockable cause he had sick moves. Then when you unlock him, they take his best moves away or they don't the same damage as they do as bosses lol. That used to piss me off lol.
I don't understand why they gave up sprint from SOR3. SOR4 feels so slow, there's no dodge or block either...
on streets of rage 3 emulators about a decade ago the star feature was available, I can't remember if it was present on console way back when, but thanks for the detailed video!
Great vid. Been here like you from Day1
Great times
i sub'd to your channel because apart from the info, i also grew up playing Streets of Rage 2 (Bare Knuckles 2 in my part of the world) ... and this series was how me and my cousin bonded. i guess its one of those games that forged our closeness that we still have as adults. i love how the game maintained the essence of beat em ups, and even bringing in some throwbacks from the past. my cousin couldnt remember everything as vividly as i did, but it was a trip running the SOR 4 from start to finish with him via remote play.
Damn this was an excellent video bruh....watched to the end....learnt some new stuff here
Thank you very much!
Would be pretty awesome to see HD updates of chars as DLC, SOR4 Skate, Max, and Shiva etc.
Definitely!
This game is dope. Glad it was free available on the Xbox game pass. Definitely will be purchasing it once they take it off.
I never thought we would see SOR4. Great video
Thanks! Same here.
Thanks for the comment! The game is definitely tons of fun, but I do wonder about the likelihood of us getting updates and DLC.
Love this video, grew up playin SoR2 with my uncle.
Definitely nostalgic. I'm super rusty, but enjoying this !!!. I haven't gamed in years!!
Great video and a history lesson as well thank you
Thank you!
@@astateofgaming I'm glad I watch your video with an learning curve as well since I myself an 1978 guy I been playing beat 'em ups since the 80's and 90's so I'm greatful we get to finally have S.O.R.4 I hope we get another one OR! A returning game like golden axe or something else in the near future but I'm happy to witness your channel of very good info keep up the good work
A truly GREAT fighting game.
Cherry and Floyd are really cool characters!
Nice video, I was curious about this game and you shared a lot of detail about it. Thanks!!
In SoR3 i remembered if you get really high score without dying your frontx2+B changes according to how many * you have. It starts from two *'s. I remembered only Axels tho, his uppercut changed into a spinning uppercut, A kind of Tekkens 3 Jin's move type.
The only disappointment is that they didn't do an updated Shiva for this! Hell I'd buy him as a DLC!
Your wish was granted!
The sor4 characters actually have some pretty insane combos as well as bnbs. At first I also liked the SoR3 characters, but now I main the SoR4 characters.
They've got some really cool options, but I'd honestly rather be able to sprint. That's the biggest inconvenience for me.
A State of Gaming I feel you. It’d be pretty intense if we had both.
Thank you! I too am annoyed the got rid of rolling and sprinting for all characters! Makes the characters who cant feel a bit clunky.

why didnt they put in Roo??? you guys know the playable kangaroo from sor3
great video and professional keep it up 👍
