I enjoy seeing my plants individually rather than a mass of green. Obviously I must have fewer plants but that’s ok with me because I have a 400 square foot tiny house and I’m 80 years old. I have 21 med to large plants inside. Donna
And even if it isn’t that nice, you could use a rope basket as a cover pot, which would go with your aesthetic. 😊 I put a plastic saucer on the bottom of the rope basket to catch residual water and that way you could drill drainage holes in the wastebasket.
Well, Thai constellation is a Tissue Culture plant. As the name suggests, it was created in the laboratory in Thailand and you can't find it in the wild. So all Thai constellation plants are supposed to be tissue cultured.
Love your collection but found it stressful! Lolol! It felt like swimming in mud! I get overwhelmed too so I suppose that’s why I felt triggered. 😂 It’s hard to just let things go but I encourage you to not overthink. If it’s a lot of back and forth then bin it! If you really miss it then repurchase it down the road. This is just an opinion offered in compassion and care.
HINT ... Put your alcohol and water in a spray bottle and spray them on the balcony. You can do that with your horticultural soap also. It makes it easier to to treat them thoroughly then you can wipe down the leaves to get rid of the water spots.
I also tend to spray down my plants but I know lots of people who like to individually wipe down each leaf. And I think that if Claire has been able to have a nice large collection, then that must be working well for her.
Maintenance is the key for keeping spider mites at bay. I love alocasias and have some that are 4 feet tall. Every month they go into the shower and their leaves are blasted with horticultural soap every time. I am glad to hear you are considering downsizing your collection. I know it is hard for you, but seriously, honestly who needs 8 of one plant? Good luck with your 2024 goals and minimizing. ( you need room and time for Ross)
I know you like to go the natural route with your pest treatments, but since you seem to have issues with pests constantly it might be worth using a systemic pesticide on all your plants as a reset once to make it more managable. Especially on your alocasia portodora since it will prevent pests from coming back for some time, so the plant will have time to settle in an hopefully grow more resiliant
I was just about to recommend a systemic pesticide too! I bought a croton from a big box store and it had spider mites very soon after. I treated it many times with soaps but nothing helped to end the constant spider mite attacks. Then I sprayed it with a systemic and kept on spraying every few months. Now for almost a year there haven't been spider mites. I also make sure to pest treat it once it comes back home from it's summer vacation at my balcony😎 Not every pest treatment has to be systemic but to stop those vicious cycles... Also if Claire has taken the alocasia out of the milsbo, then the systemic shouldn't hurt the beneficial insects?!
For as long as it's not spidermites, spidermites can actually get worse with systemic pesticides due to one of the chemicals promoting mating in Spidermites specifically.
Hi Claire, I've mentioned this before, but I've also got ADHD. Since living on my own for the first time, I've been trying to balance a need for minimalism (due to getting overwhelmed easily) and a need for warmth in the home. I've got all my books, cat stuff, crafting stuff... in a sideboard behind closed doors. There are no photos anywhere, but three minimalistic pictures. There's no knick-knacks, no hanging curtains, and airy furniture that is small enough to fit my space comfortably. Most of my furniture and accessories are in neutral colours, but I use sleek colourful plant pots to add a touch of colour here and there. I still get overwhelmed, but it makes such a difference! I've also got everything I possibly can mounted on the walls to free up floor space: the aforementioned sideboard, the bathroom cabinets, the TV stand, the bin... When buying new things, I like to research for months to find the right item for my space, taste, and budget. This way I can make sure I don't impulse buy unneeded stuff. Everybody's different of course. I wish you the best of luck on your decluttering journey. It might seem daunting at first, but oh, the benefits you will reap!
same, its rather cathartic to be cleaning up plants and sad for the ones not doing well, and feel less like only me who struggles keeping things looking good right now. Its like having a good pal working alongside me.
My husband and I were sick with covid over the holidays I didn't get to do any planty stuff, either, for 3 weeks. I just couldn't get the energy to take care of anything while I was taking care of myself. thank goodness it had been raining lately and temperature dropped quite bit in Los Angeles so a lot of my plants were fine. . I actually got a Millsbo greenhouse cabinet for Xmas but I can't get myself to assemble it yet. I desperately need a reset like you did. Take care, love your videos, Claire! keep us posted on the alocacia's condition, please.
I have ADHD too, and the past few months in terms of plant care have been pretty overwhelming. As a newbie plant mom I had my first ever thrips infestation and then immediately my first winter came, I struggled to keep my plants alive and I lost a couple of my favourites. BUT! I managed to save my calathea makoyana (thrips + root rot), and it’s giving me new leaves already! My gloriosum under a growlight has been giving me its biggest leaves yet, and a silver sword that lost all of its leaves during the infestation - I saved the bottom of it with all of the roots and it’s the cutest baby plant. My baby florida ghost reset itself BUT did not die, and is growing new leaves. I successfully sprouted a dozen of pomelo seeds and an avocado plant. And my adenium obesum that I was so scared to cut gave me four branches as a reward! I’m still learning to deal with the losses I experience but the little wins make them more bearable. Baby steps.
For Spidermites I sprayed my calathea with neemoil a few times and quarantined her for 2,5 weeks. Nothing since then! I really think it's worth having a little pop up tent for quaratining infected plants (obviously not for huge plants but those I feel are usually pretty resiliant and can get over pests with minimal help)
I had strep throat a few days before Christmas was a nightmare. I think alot of people got sick during winter seasons. Hope Ross is feeling better now sound so sore the fall that he had. I have done alot of plant purge in 2023 as i want to start off fresh 2024 focusing more on the plants that i love and take care on them more. This winter i notice more yellowing leaves on my Hoya’s for some reason. Especially on my Hoya Deykeae which i lost 3 leaves which i was so sad about. Since it took a long time given me 3 leaves last summer. After seeing your Euphoria Acrurensis i came across it in my plant nursery in town after checking out their website and went and got one which i was so excited about. I am still on the hunt for the variegated Euphoria Ingens one which I haven’t found one that i love in person to purchase. Also the white ghost lactea also on the search for. I find with these expensive plants you need to get it in person to choose the one that you love. I have fallen out of buying plants online now since always disappointing of the outcome. I always enjoy seeing your dog in your channel we really want a dog aswell. Maybe one day we will. I rather have a house with a pet since i am living in a duplex apartment with 4 flights of stairs very tiring going up and down. Also easy to put them in the garden to choose the bathroom early mornings and evenings especially.
Claire, Happy New Year🎉✨️. Good on you for your reset and being in a space to take a realistic look and adjust your collection👏 The best of luck and joy in the days ahead🥂🪴
You're doing great Claire; we can only do our best! Thank you for the long video. Plantsbymelissa and Wild Fern (TH-cam) use Superthrive and say: "it helps the plants not shock and there's other benefits too. I purchased a bottle, but have yet to really use it. 🌿💦💚🌼🌵
Richard,.im new to this plant journey im enjoying it all started with a nice lady who gave me golden pothos plant cuttings that rooted in water that amazed me and i was hooked my story from their i bought 2 other pothos baby plants that i have rooted how cool is that my plant journey continues to 2024.thank you for sharing this information on line!.take care.merry Christmas and happy new year 2024.God bless you.
Watching your plant chore videos and similar content gets me motivated to get my to-do’s done. Laundry, dishes, sweep mop, cleaning my bunny’s area. I only have 6 plants in my collection but ugh we’ve be infiltrated by stink bugs. Every time I see one my souls nearly escapes me!!! HATE is not strong enough of a word on how I feel about those things!!! 😂😢
For the Philodendron Esmeraldense: I also had that with a Philodendron. But the new vine that grew from the wetstick grew his own little arialroots and survived! Hopefully, your's will do the same.🤞🏻
Awww.. I am so sad you were not feeling well. I am happy you are feeling better. I will be doing plant chores with you today. thank you for sharing this plant chore motivation. Happy Friday!
I absolutely agree with the fact that pets come into contact plants in the wild all the time and most are toxic! I have two cats and they’ve NEVER eaten or messed with a plant other than casually checking them out, the occasional nudge on a leaf or a stroll through the jungle of plant stands playing hide and seek. I feel like as long as your pet isn’t constantly chomping on foliage or digging plants up, they don’t even care about them. In some cases though, I’ve seen some pets be naughty on purpose trying to get attention. lol so I guess it just depends on the pet and their view on your pet to plant ratio 😂😂😂
I started my planty reset over the holidays too, time to purge what I’m not excited about, care for the ones I am, clean, reorganize, reset ❤ I felt that plant burnout this late fall, I was grateful to have the love pick up again to do the reset, now I’m obsessed again!
Starting this video on break at work, and I plan on finishing it when I get home! I love your videos, they’re so relaxing and give me company while I do my own chores ❤️
Hi, Claire! I know you use the Liquid Gold Leaf fertilizer, and I've recently swapped to give it a try. Curious: You mentioned fertilizing with every watering, but my bottle (I'm in the US, so it may be slightly different) says to only use it every third watering. I know every plant, every planty space, etc is different, but what do you, Ross, and Joli do? Extra-weak dilution with every watering? Thanks!! ❤
May I ask, Do you live in a block of flats or why do you think you have so many different pest? I knock on wood have only ever had fungus gnats and only twice in many 20 odd years. And I just treated them them with nematodes. I am wondering if it's because you bring things home from plant swaps? I have been thinking of doing a swap but but am now worried about doing that. In an effort to make more well lit plants space. I widened my window sills and brought many level plant racks and put them in the window, No curtains and uses textured window film for pricey. I still have the curtain rods up with hanging plants on it. It has made a beautiful jungle fell and I have so many happy plants and so much more free space in other areas. It freed up paces for me to play with lovely poles and climbers. And I can grow them from floor to celling. But also I see them all so much better with where they are now and the spacing really help with that.
I have watched this and cleaned and rearranged my desk and shelf next to it and done a few plant maintenance jobs so thank you find these chatty videos help me motivate to do these things xx
So far i've been liking superthrive ( is not a fertilizer btw but an extra additive you can use with feed), been using it for my anthuriums at every watering through the winter (UK) and they have been growing non-stop. I'm unsure if it's all thanks to superthrive alone but it's possibly part of it. What I got more of a clear experience with is importing, I found it really helps with preventing transplant shock + acclimation
I really loved this video I definitely did my leaf cleaning while watching. The 3 plants on my wish list would be Hoya Wilbur graves, Hoya Kerri variegated and Hoya Australis tricolor
I want to retry Venus fly traps. I had two, that died years ago. I live in Colorado, USA and they are hard to keep out here. Especially since I did not use a grow lamp. I also want plants like "wandering jew" or "money tree plant".
I'm not sure if it was said but ALL Thai Constellations are a product or byproduct of tissue culture.... Seems like it was a Monstera Deliciosa that was being tissue cultured and there was a mutation and the Thai Constellation was born and continually replicated by tissue culture from there. Even if you get a cutting, that cutting is a direct descendant of a tissue cultured plant. It will be genetically identical to a plant that was tissue cultured. All that being said, it is important that the mother plant being tissue cultured...is a solid specimen.
The silver Hoya may need to get repotted. So when they aren’t plumping back up after a watering it may mean root rot. It literally just happened to mine and I researched and sounds like that’s what may be going on. I’m so sad because mine was so lush and now they’re all shriveling up 😩
55:50 I had a cutting of my albo that was poorly cut on my end .. but there was node and potential growth point, so I decided to prop it with rest of the cutting. After a long while it gave me a leaf! However when I checked the cutting it had no roots :/ I kept at it anyways. Now it has two fuzzy roots that emerged from the point where the new growth happened and it found its way down to the propagation solution. My propagations were in a semi hydro situation in aquaSolum and I only noticed the growth spurts when I needed to be away and filled the cup a bit too full (where the water was slightly touching the cutting)
Late watching this video, so if you end up scrapping it, please know this isn’t meant to guilt you- the Joepii is severely endangered in the wild, so if you can help it grow, you are definitely doing something worthwhile. 😊
I can’t help but wonder if your giant alocasia keeps struggling because it’s in a small pot. Maybe it’s stressed so it’s more pest prone? When you picked it out of the reservoir there were a lot of roots coming out!
Happy New Year Claire. Regarding your ongoing pest problem...one thing I have noticed, is when you're doing your spider mite & thrip infested plants, while your talking, your clothes are brushing the plants, possibly picking up bugs. Then you go back over to the other healthier plants. This could be the source of your problem. Just an observation I've made over the past year or so watching your channel. You have more pest problems than anyone else I know. Must drive you crazy.
Maybe it's the amount of plants she has. She has plants absolutely everywhere, cuttings everywhere etc, pests in her collection are going to be extremely hard to eradicate and or keep on top of. Personally I don't think anyone needs to have that amount of plants, it's ridiculous and would cause many different issues in living a balanced lifestyle.
Have you looked much into diatomaceous earth for pest control? I’m getting into the that currently and seems like a possible more natural and biological defense against pests
I apologize if you already said it,. What is the solution you are using to wipe down your plants? I did go back to see if you said it and never caught it. thank you.
Hey Claire, have you tried misting your portidora? Really big plant deals with spidermites *badly* due to her area, and she says misting has reslly curbed her spidermite issue.
I have used a plastic trash can as a pot before! Target has cute smaller ones that you can drill holes in for drainage! My alocasias always have spider mites too! I don’t know why they are so prone to them!
1:51:28 They don’t die in the spring. I’ve kept mine and even if it drops leaves, they can grow back in the same spot on the stems. I kind of love the mat velvety green leaves 😊
Oh Clair, thank you so much for this video! After the last few days I really needed just to quite my mind. I'm currently sitting here in my home in Canada with heaters going so my plants don't get cold. I don't care if I freeze as long as I can keep my pets and plants warm! My furnace quit working 2 days ago and my husband can't get home till Sunday to fix it! You were just what I needed!❤
With adhd all I can say is just remember you are trying your best and to be patient with yourself It is easy to get into a doom loop of not feeling like you are doing enough but sometimes you just need more time to recover and there is grace for all of it if you wouldn’t get frustrated with a friend or loved one for things then don’t get mad at yourself
hey! i hope you don't mind the question but do you have some kind of ADHD? or depression/anxiety? because alot of things you say about the way you deal with things resonate with me
LMFAOOOOO sorry that im laughing but i literally just needed to keep watching for the answer 😭 yeah i thought so... it was too familiar the way you handle yourself to be able to do chores ❤️ we know how hard the "simplest" things can be so be proud of yourself for getting this far in life, a great job
My household was sick after Christmas through the New Year. My husband had the flu, my daughter’s boyfriend caught it as well. But then my daughter went back home and she came down with COVID. I managed to dodge both illnesses, I don’t do well with COVID. Haven’t caught the flu in a few years. (knocking on wood) I kept looking for a video from you, was so happy now that you uploaded. I absolutely admire your Dean McDowell… I purchased one off of Etsy from a seller I thought I could trust. I had made several purchases from them without incident. I got a very juvenile plant so couldn’t tell what it was or wasn’t. They sent me a Philodendron Summer Glory! Ugh, never purchasing from that store again. At least it was at a good low price. I’ll end up buying one in a couple of months and hopefully grow one like yours!
I had similar Xmas holiday as you. Me and my partner had a terrible infection so we had to cancel family meeting and stayed at home. We prepared a basic traditional Xmas Eve dinner and spent most of the time resting in bed with our dog and two cats. Now frosty winter came(-10 C) and to be honest it's difficult to motivate myself to do a proper plant care. I have to monitor my silver cloud philo due to spider mites. What cheers me up it's my collection of cymbidium orchids in full bloom now :) Happy and prosperous 2024!
Happy New Year Claire! I completely chilled out whilst watching that, so thsnk you😌 my wish list plants are same as yours, pallidiflorum, veitchii and my 3rd would be the hoya wilbur graves. I did treat myself to my other wishlist plant in the black friday sale Grow Tropicals had and bought a baby Frydek for a great price. Transferred her to pon just before xmas, so losing a leaf, but hoping she grows nice and big this year 😃
Keep the philo esmereldense cutting!!! With loads of my philos their aerial roots are dry (my bad) and dont end up pushing out roots. HOWEVER a lot of the time they do still push out new growth which will then push out healthy aerial roots which grow. Propagate until there is no debate. (Also) i think a fair few ppl got ill this Christmas and idk why. I had a covid christmas but luckily was only ill for a day but my dad had it quite bad. It was my third time having Covid and hopefully the last
I love your videos. You and Wildfern are my only Patreon subscriptions. I think that if someone totally new to plants watched this video they would probably need to know what is in the bucket. Maybe you mentioned it and I didn’t catch it. Loved this video though!
Love your vlogs,I'm a recent subscriber and I'm hooked and getting a lot of good advice as a newish plant parent of a growing hoard lol I don't have the Ch others are posting there questions but wandered if in one of your chats you could answer,do you ever buy flowers and how did you come up with your dogs name and is that a Bristol accent? 🙂⭐🌸
I wondered if you were ill! So sorry! It’s going around here in Montana as well! 3 week Misery! Very happy to see you back and for 2+ hours as well! Question would breaking down and using chemicals help you keep portadora? Maybe you’d only have to do one or two treatments to get it over the hump. 💜
I enjoy seeing my plants individually rather than a mass of green. Obviously I must have fewer plants but that’s ok with me because I have a 400 square foot tiny house and I’m 80 years old. I have 21 med to large plants inside. Donna
I've been making my way through your long videos in random order, and I'm so happy to have stumbled on the origin story of the rug!
For a tall pot, find a nice wastebasket. They tend to be taller and narrower than plant pots.
And even if it isn’t that nice, you could use a rope basket as a cover pot, which would go with your aesthetic. 😊 I put a plastic saucer on the bottom of the rope basket to catch residual water and that way you could drill drainage holes in the wastebasket.
This is a great idea that I had never thought of ❤
Well, Thai constellation is a Tissue Culture plant. As the name suggests, it was created in the laboratory in Thailand and you can't find it in the wild. So all Thai constellation plants are supposed to be tissue cultured.
Hang your rug over several chairs inside the flat and it will dry and raise the humidity at the same time. Obviously not if it is dripping. LOL
Thank you Claire!!! Exactly what I need tonight after a hectic week at work ❤❤❤❤ and happy 2024!!

Right! Like it needs to get into every crevice of the plant and even on the pot to ensure they are all gone.
I also tend to spray down my plants but I know lots of people who like to individually wipe down each leaf. And I think that if Claire has been able to have a nice large collection, then that must be working well for her.

Worked on my plants all afternoon while watching her videos haha!!
I am glad you feel better. The plant that gets spidermites and stresses you I would get rid of. Less worry. You have so many other beautiful plants.
My husband and I were sick with covid over the holidays I didn't get to do any planty stuff, either, for 3 weeks. I was waiting so much your New video!!! Happy New year!
We've missed you!!! I was literally having withdrawals!!!!! Lol I was hoping you would post!! 💜
Hi Jolie and Ross...take good care everyone ❤️😊🖤
When my Hoyas won’t hydrate and the leaves stay that way they usually have root rot
omg yay! i missed your videos!

Just be aware that mealy bug infestations usually start in the roots and then you notice them when they lay eggs and feed on the leaves 🙂
You are killing me with that water dribbling sound. I'm going to have to pause and run to the loo. 😂😂😂
You shoud show joli once in a while. I'm a petsitter :) + clerk, quite new to plants
I'm thankful you and Ross are feeling better 😁
Claire, Happy New Year🎉✨️. Good on you for your reset and being in a space to take a realistic look and adjust your collection👏 The best of luck and joy in the days ahead🥂🪴

Yay long video! When do you water pon plants? Do you go by the reservoir only or do you stick your finger I it?
Alcohol and water in spray bottle. Drench it! For mealy bugs!
Love your videos Claire ❤
Glad u r feeling better

Thank you for making the videos that you love to make. I love to watch them 😊
You are my motivation!! Greetings from Washington state 😊
Awww.. I am so sad you were not feeling well. I am happy you are feeling better. I will be doing plant chores with you today. thank you for sharing this plant chore motivation. Happy Friday!
Claire, how do you deal with mean comments? I've got my first one today and it is 🥴😞 bitter! Thank you!
I have used Superthrive. I diluted by half and used it every watering on plants that were growing. I thought it worked well.
Hi, Claire! I love your videos and you are such a woderful person ☺️ ❤ Thank you for being here! Nico

I started my planty reset over the holidays too, time to purge what I’m not excited about, care for the ones I am, clean, reorganize, reset ❤ I felt that plant burnout this late fall, I was grateful to have the love pick up again to do the reset, now I’m obsessed again!
i fell upon your channel and where have i been??? subscribing!! this is my kinda cozy chill content . love it!!
Thank you Claire, I love the long ones, as you keep me Company in my work space in the pottery 😊🪴
I’ve had Exactly the same problem with my Hoya Silver Splash! Have the reached the point of giving up and binning it.
About your dean McDowell, they make wall hanging troughs on Etsy. I was thinking of doing the same thing!
I can’t help but wonder if your giant alocasia keeps struggling because it’s in a small pot. Maybe it’s stressed so it’s more pest prone? When you picked it out of the reservoir there were a lot of roots coming out!
I have lost over 5 leaves on my aglaonema silverbay this winter. I cant figured out why. Maybe overwatering. Havent had any issue last winter
Well I can give you a suggestion bonide systemickills spider mites it's what I use and I don't have them on any of my alocasia or my verrocossum.
I use Super Thrive with every watering and also mixed with fertilizer when I fertilize once a month
I have a question, if you aren't introducing new plants, and your plants are indoors, and in cabinets, how are the bugs getting in?
claire, what is the plant behind you on the floor by the door?! Happy New Year! as always .. love your video
💚
You will always get spider mites because they come from outside. Use a systemic. They are just more attracted to certain species.
Your node giving you leaves without roots will grow roots from the new growth and then you can separate from the wet stick
Ooo I like your water bottle trick for quitting smoking I am definitely going to try that.
Sweetie call a repair man.
Stay warm here in Ontario we are having our first real cold snap😮
Turn the oven on with door open but not when you’re sleeping. Also boil a large pot of water and release the hot steam in the air.
you let plants go cause you have a life and a lot of plants and its alot, less plants more tlc to the ones you have maybe idonno
Hey Claire. What do you use for pest treating? :)
With adhd all I can say is just remember you are trying your best and to be patient with yourself
It is easy to get into a doom loop of not feeling like you are doing enough but sometimes you just need more time to recover and there is grace for all of it if you wouldn’t get frustrated with a friend or loved one for things then don’t get mad at yourself
Get rid of it. It doesn't like your climate.
What stones/gravel are you using to repot those plants?
My fuzzy Petiole is a spider mite magnet 😢.
love ur voice, you seem so nice but girl you can talk hah
소중하고 귀한 식물 영상 행복하게 잘보고 응원합니다❤❤❤
you have me hooked with this video! Great time!
My Thai is in Leca and it's doing great.
hey! i hope you don't mind the question but do you have some kind of ADHD? or depression/anxiety? because alot of things you say about the way you deal with things resonate with me
LMFAOOOOO sorry that im laughing but i literally just needed to keep watching for the answer 😭 yeah i thought so... it was too familiar the way you handle yourself to be able to do chores ❤️ we know how hard the "simplest" things can be so be proud of yourself for getting this far in life, a great job
Get a small baby Thai and put it in Leca
What's the name of the plant at 42:38?
Thank you for sharing beautiful and amazing plants lovely collection beautiful houseplants lovely collection beautiful
Hey Claire. I have a mini veitchii I’m looking to rehome. It’s not for me. I sent Emma the Pallidilforum
I’ll drop you a message on Instagram
I had similar Xmas holiday as you. Me and my partner had a terrible infection so we had to cancel family meeting and stayed at home. We prepared a basic traditional Xmas Eve dinner and spent most of the time resting in bed with our dog and two cats. Now frosty winter came(-10 C) and to be honest it's difficult to motivate myself to do a proper plant care. I have to monitor my silver cloud philo due to spider mites. What cheers me up it's my collection of cymbidium orchids in full bloom now :) Happy and prosperous 2024!
Whew. I did some plant chores last night and it was so chaotic and messy. Glad im not the only one.
It was my third time having Covid and hopefully the last
Time to do “planty things” and listen to your new favorite ❤🌸
I love your videos. You and Wildfern are my only Patreon subscriptions. I think that if someone totally new to plants watched this video they would probably need to know what is in the bucket. Maybe you mentioned it and I didn’t catch it. Loved this video though!
Love your vlogs,I'm a recent subscriber and I'm hooked and getting a lot of good advice as a newish plant parent of a growing hoard lol
I don't have the Ch others are posting there questions but wandered if in one of your chats you could answer,do you ever buy flowers and how did you come up with your dogs name and is that a Bristol accent?
