@Atman Gotango like i said. Try to pick one up and see what happens. Pine martin is in the weasel family. Weasels can kill prey 4 times their size. Sure it might take a grape. But if you tried to pet or pick up the tame sweet creature i promise you,d be sorry

The only Pine Marten I ever saw in the wild was in Argyll .Walking on a dirt road I suddenly noticed Pine Marten 5 foot Infront of me Defiantly staring at me saying you shall not pass . I froze wondering what she was going to do ,then from behind her two Kits crossed the road .After looking over her shoulder she followed them. I felt equal parts nervus and privileged as we all whent on our way.
While not as fearless as Wolverine far as will battle other predators... Far as prey an adult pune martin will ambush a deer... And eat porcupines no problem
Sorry, but if this is in Scotland and the cat is a european wild cat and not a feral house cat, the Pine marten was wise to back of. The wild cat is very different to your feral house cat!!
Depends on the species of marten. Beech and yellow throated martens sometimes hunt cats due to being bigger and more aggressive than pine martens such as this one but yes wild cats and sometimes domestic cats will kill pine martens from time to time if it comes down to an altercation. Cats are fierce fighters.
@@jasonberryman1035 You have nothing of credible stature that beech and yellow-throated martens hunt cats. It's all anecdotal. Further, what do you mean being bigger and more aggressive? A yellow-throated marten can get up to 15 lbs according to some sources while other sources will claim 12 to 13 lbs. A big male tomcat can likely get up to 20 to 25 lbs. So, where the hell are you getting this "bigger" from? And, insofar as aggressiveness? Yeah, let's see you try to handle a big feral tomcat and why don't you proceed to tell us how aggressive it was.
Hi, Looking for some info, I have a Pine Marten friend, I call him Guy. He has been visiting me every night since spring, to the point I could film him within 2 feet, he has given my fingers a quick sniff once but generally he ignores me sitting quietly watching. I leave him a small jam piece, an egg and some fruit n nuts, which he seems to relish. .... However, for 2 weeks he has suddenly been absent, I'm so sad and worried. there is a pair cats local to me but they usually ignore each other, could it just be there is pleny food about? Do they uaually visit less at this time of year? I dont want to give up hope just yet :(
Hello. I know your pain. Over the last few years, despite visiting me every night without fail, one of my chums has sometimes gone missing for up to two weeks or more. It is usually during the summer, but my regulars have always returned. Sometimes it is because a female is otherwise occupied with her kits, but males also go missing. I have now ceased to worry. I have assumed it is often because they have an adequacy of proper food (there is a superabundance of rowan berries in Scotland at the moment), but lately it is probably because of cats. They don't seem overly bothered with their presence, but they do seem to avoid close contact (within a couple of metres) if possible (i.e. if they are not too hungry). There is usually an exchange of growling between them but nothing more serious. Another reason for a particular marten to go awol is the presence of another marten. Sometimes they are the best of pals, other times they cannot stand each other. Young martens will also be 'encouraged' to move away when they get to a certain age by their mother.
@@scottishpinemartens8461 Thank you for your reply, I will be more patient and hope he returns, we also have a problem with Mink in the area ( south Skye) so maybe it has a bearing on things too as they have been setting traps for them recently. Fingers crossed
A Scottish Wildcat is an indigenous wild cat from Scotland and Europe. Slightly larger than the domestic cat, thicker tail with dark rings, greyish/brown tabby coat. The one in the video is a mix between it and a regular domestic cat.
1:24 to 1:46 trying to be playful but actually assessing best method of attack with that innocent head swaying movement. I think the cat knows it and hunched its back to be ready. I don't think the marten would come out on top.
Hello Ryky - they are grapes. They do not grow in Scotland (too far north), so it is a little surprising that the martens love them. Mind you, strawberry jam and peanut butter are also favourites. They turn their noses up at dog food.

@@lamagra7922it's a myth. We feed domestic house cats and they are still great hunters. Feeding an adult wild animal will not take away their knowledge about hunting or finding food. And why should we throw away leftovers when animals could have a good dinner with them!
Hello. Indeed it does look youngish, but it is in fact an adult male Martes martes (European pine marten). I have been communicating with it for over five years. It shows the signs of age when inspected closely (such as loss of teeth).
Cats rely on ambush tactics, mustelids are pure ferocity. Cat wins quickly, or else it escapes, or else the marten wins grimly. And pine martens can climb trees, so that takes away a potential avenue of escape Long story short: Don't sleep on weasels, badgers, or otters

They are heavier built than domestic cats. There fur pattern is also different.

Here in the US we have these wildcats too. We call them house cats and name them Buffy or Little Girl.
No, we don't have the ancestor of the domesticated cat, we have feral house cats that live in the wild. Think of Felis sylvestris like a wolf.

That Marten wouldn't have an easy time with the cat. Cats will fight a coyote or dog.
