I had the Tiger hand-held game! It was a number of levels where you have to memorize the kind of Beetlejuice that can protect Lydia, not all of them work on all enemies. And once you had the levels memorized, there was nothing to it, there was no randomizing AI. But I loved it.
Beetlejuice on the NES is a game that haunted me for almost 30 years! I played it as a kid as a rental and couldn't figure out a damn thing (no manual) and couldn't even beat Otho. Finally ran into it when setting up a Raspberry Pi around 2020 and beat the hell out of it for some much needed catharsis. It really is a charming game and it tried doing some different things, which is commendable, although some things worked well and some were pure tedium. I also appreciate the callout for David Wise's expansive body of work! He did a number of great soundtracks on the NES and GB which are often overlooked compared to his work on Donkey Kong County and future DK games. Thanks for all that you do! I had to subscribe to the Patreon earlier this week after I realized how much I look forward to your videos!
I had a very similar experience growing up but got into emulators in the late 2000s & finally conquered NES Beetlejuice. I never got past the 2nd level as a kid & everything was so cryptic
Great video as always! The track from the Game Boy game really sticks to your head very easily. Just looking at the thumbnail made it come back to mine.
In 1991 I had a one year subscription to a video game magazine called Game Player's Strategy Guide To Nintendo Games. It was basically the poor kid's version of Nintendo Power. Anyway the NES Beetlejuice game was featured in one of the issues. It had the movie poster picture on the cover. Man its been so long I forgot how big of a deal Beetlejuice was between 1988 and 1991. It seemed like he was everywhere. Toys, games, books, a cartoon series and more. I think it's criminal the sequel was not made back then, at the height of the IP's popularity. The brilliance of Tim Burton is that he made the movie safe enough for kids to watch. It opened the door for every Beetlejuice thing we got that was aimed at kids.
Omfg the old ms-dos game! I had that on me n my grandparents computer when i was a kid it didnt have a graphical operating system , had to type the root location in to run the game haha this was a trip from the past
I remember us buying Skeletons in the Closet when I was a kid and we could NOT get it working on DOS no matter how hard we tried - looking back it was probably a user error on my dad's part lol
Exactly, that‘s the one I got stuck, too. There is a point where you have to jump out of the cart, but no-where to jump on or into. It was frustrating to no end.
I remember playings the SNES game when I was 7. I was able to get in the house but falling off screen when in reality there was a floor there wascthe worst and I couldn't get past it
Honestly as a kid I hated this game but that was mostly due to the fact I rented it and didn't have a manual or anything. Without knowing what's going on this game really does suck balls. As an adult who now understands how the game operates and can play within those rules, it's not nearly as bad as I once thought it was. The last time I played it seriously I managed to get to the top down section of the house on my last life, lost, became frustrated and haven't picked it up again since. The game certainly does suffer some problems, one of those issues being the almost always present NES game difficulty.
The "NES game difficulty" is a known combination of poor game design and purposely making games hard as a way to combat game rentals. Its has always been hilarious though when people talk about NES games being for "true gamers" because of their difficulty when there are countless devs who all worked on those games that all confirmed because of video game rentals games were purposely made unfairly hard so that they could not be beaten in hopes of forcing a kid to purchase the game. The Japanese versions are typically the intended design because rentals weren't a thing in Japan
Wait, you said Beetlejuice for DOS only has PC-speaker bleeps and bloops, but the footage you showed of it was accompanied by music that sounded very much beyond what the PC speaker is capable of producing. And that music was blended with sound effects that seemed to be timed to the footage you were displaying on screen, so I'm guessing... you added music in post? Or is there actually music that plays during the levels? Because what was playing sounded pretty good, I thought -- if it was added in post, where was it added from? What is the origin of that music?
NietherWorld? Didn't know there was an I in there. As an Actual avid Beetlejuice fan, I thought it was called the Netherworld from every source...this is only what I recall.
Always thought Beetlejuice would be a good open world game. Something along the lines of the Arkham series or Shadows of War. I think the right developers could have some fun with it. I don't trust the big companies right now though...😕

Wow I swear as a kid Tiger games being alot better than they actually were lol
Lol same @sholva6809

What a gem of a channel. Embrace the Jank!

Bird up...I mean it's Showtime! Great vid!
BIRD UP
Your channel rocks. CGR voice lives on lol
Loving the Every series, keep it up. 👍
For having as few games as he does, Beetlejuice does have a nice and eclectic mix showcased during his heyday!
Before Doom, Beetlejuice for DOS was one of my favorites.
It baffles me that we never got a Beetlejuice game similar to The Haunting on Sega Genesis
They could not afford the license to PolterGuy😂😮
Dude you unlocked a memory for me with that first checkerboard beetle juice game on PC. I used to play that at my friends house when I was a kid!
Great episode my dude! Choice aesthetics as usual
I love that you called the pipe mini game reminiscent of pipe dreams. Most people call that type of mini game bioshock hacking
Oh, burst error as soon as I hop on? LETS GO.
Nice fucking video.
Honk honk
(HONK HONK)
That DOS Gremlins game looks hilarious in retrospect. The art design is like it was made in MS Paint lol
Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, live action Casper, and The Adams Family should all do a mashup
Love your videos!!! Retro goodness (and not so goodness) ❤
thanks so much!!
Great work!
You do good reviews. 👍

I had the NES version - got it for my birthday. Never could get really far into the game, but it was what it was.
NES game is weird for sure - but I loved it back in the day and even finished the game when I was a kid. Soundtrack is amazing.
Man, this is like comfort food
12:56 Beetljuice even says "Who Me?" Like the other Beetljuuce.😂
Very fun watch, as always, Burst.
I think the best "Beetlejuice" game is Haunting: Starring Polterguy.
right?! would've been a perfect fit for a Beetlejuice license on that. cool game too
I never knew there was a top-down perspective mode in the NES version.
I had the GameBoy version. Good memories.
I remember playing this game in meddle school in 1993 down south Osceola Arkansas on a computer in a teacher's room
I'm jealous of that Emerson set.
I had the NES game and it was hard as balls but I loved the music :)
I remember us buying Skeletons in the Closet when I was a kid and we could NOT get it working on DOS no matter how hard we tried - looking back it was probably a user error on my dad's part lol
Im surprised theres so few Beetlejuice games
AVGN episode incoming
I Have Collected A Box Of Chalk.
The "dvd logo" was a brilliant reference forbthe bouncing projectile.
i had the gameboy one as a kid and remember i really enjoyed it. I dont think i ever made it past the minecart level tho.
Exactly, that‘s the one I got stuck, too. There is a point where you have to jump out of the cart, but no-where to jump on or into. It was frustrating to no end.
I honestly didnt know there was a DOS game. And the NES one was terrible. Angry Video Game Nerd roasted it.
Deservedly so lol
Missed out. I grew up with the DOS one, and it was a blast.
I really liked skeletons in the closet. Just an arena shooter.
Yeah! Bug Drink!
I have the NES game and I know I've had the GB one but I haven't been able to find it. I rarely sell anything too, lol
Can you imagine if Beetlejuice was in Mortal Kombat 1
well at least we get him in Multiversus
I remember playings the SNES game when I was 7. I was able to get in the house but falling off screen when in reality there was a floor there wascthe worst and I couldn't get past it

Rodger Rabbit and Nightmare on Elm Street are also often unpopular NES games but I think they're fine-ish.

Slide puzzles arent too bad if you memorize an algorithm to solve them.
I didn't know that there was Beetlejuice games

I probably should've put something on screen, but the music used there is from the NES/Gameboy versions
@@BurstError Ah, that makes sense. I figured it must have been something like that. Thanks!
19:35 BRO is playing a bacon. ☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠
does he know Beetlejuice is in Multiverse 2024
NietherWorld? Didn't know there was an I in there. As an Actual avid Beetlejuice fan, I thought it was called the Netherworld from every source...this is only what I recall.
In the cartoon, it was always called the Neitherworld. I don‘t think the movie had a special name for it, though.
6:45 lol I tested down and jump and died in beetlejuice NES. Classic fail. Good idea for vid.
I used to get so frustrated with the NES game as I kid. I loved the movie so much, but yet could get nothing accomplished in the game, lol.
I own the nes version. I played it once for about 30 seconds
I’m sorry for that trauma 😢😅
To Burst Error:
Please can you do a video about every A Nightmare On Elm Street game?
Please and Thank You
that would be cool, I always wanted to try the DOS game
CRITTERs!!
" GEEZE!!' who comes up with this stuff!" R.
betelgeuse, betelgeuse, betelgeuse

Can anybody help me out with where I can get a Tiger emulator, please?1
I had the nes game
The Gameboy game has a level I never managed to beat. Still got the game, wish I had a cheating code for unlimited lives.
I forgot to mention it in the video, but there is at least a level select code!
@@BurstErrorReally? I must admit, it‘s been decades since I played. Where does one get these codes these days?
Who the fuck had the manual? I rented this shit from blockbuster
Nice fucking model 😂
I've only played nes version
It's pronounced KNEE-therworld 😉
15:54 that's the snake stage from battletoads.
