Tornado Warning- April 6, 2010

- This warning took everyone by surprise, even those of us in the northern part of the county, 15 miles to the north. Just before the first local forecast in this clip, my TWC feed went completely out. The LDL was left up underneath the warning crawl, until the feed conveniently came back right before that local forecast.
Immediately following it, the National Weather Service issues a Tornado Warning for the southern part of Ingham County (which was included here). The Weather Channel then begins covering it, and much to my dismay, actually makes it headline news.
HiRAD was also out for 10 minutes again, and it's obvious that this new LDL was not prepared to handle HiRAD outages. This was the first time I was able to see the wintry mix icon, as HiRAD was guessing hail for the airport (this is displayed on the 2nd local forecast).
The thunderstorm cell which prompted the warning moved out of the warned area and into Livingston County right on time. However, no other tornado warnings were issued on it. Also notice the final local forecast in this clip. Right before the Tornado Warning Update crawl makes its final appearance in the last local forecast here, we see the LDL with the tab bar once again missing. This was fixed about an hour later.

The Tornado Warning had just been issued during that time. I'm not surprised they didn't cover it immediately.
I like how when the tornado warning popped up in the LDL, it also announced that it had been issued. I haven't heard that before. Very sweet!
I remember this! I live in Holt. Sirens caught everyone by surprise!! It was a VERY fast moving storm, with A LOT of wind....at least here there was.
Weather channel sure has changed since 2010
Lived in the Lansing area all my life. My personal take is that, as opposed to the "tornado belt", most of our tornadoes seem to pop up out of nowhere, when there's no watch in effect. Don't quite know why that is, other than our weather conditions can sometimes change very rapidly. There's an old saying...."if you don't like the weather in Michigan, just wait 5 minutes".
It's the same here in North Carolina.

You know, I'm not entirely sure. Here in Lansing, I just got Heavy Rain and wind out of it. Other than the sky getting dark as the storm got here, mysteriously turning snow white while it was here, and then turning dark again, nothing happened here.
@b33292 There wasn't much damage, it was a tornadic storm indicated by radar. I would imagine that area got plagued by hail though.

@Weatherman436 That has always confused me, too, but I think it's because of all the counties a watch covers. It may just take a lot of time for the Intellistar to process all that information. You can look at the mesoscale discussions on the SPC website if you want to know when a watch is about to be issued.
The airport reported hail, which the Intellistar shows as a Wintry Mix.

Why oh why the fuck did they change THIS aspect of the weather channel? The beeps are softer, the voice is softer, which is idiotic considering the dangers associated with a tornado.
0:39 The all too well-known bow echo formation on NEXRAD. I'm surprised that NWS didn't issue a tornado warning until minutes later when the conditions are clearly imminent.
On April 5, 2010, at around 10:30pm CDT My part of the county was under a severe thunderstorm warning. Next thing I know, I notice small hail, maybe quarter size, was htting the house. I watch it for a while and then go back to watching TV. Then at like 10:40 I hear the loudest pounding i've ever heard in my life coming from the ceiling. I look outside, and hail, this time the size of golfballs and baseballs is shooting around everywhere like a warzone. I've NEVER seen that in my life. Crazy...
A script has to be read by an employee at the NWS office responsible for issuing the warning. With TWC, all alerts are completely automated, and only in the information is needed for the crawl.
That storm must have formed because of warm air above the ground with cold air aloft, with wind shear aloft, which is why this storm produced some good hail, there was reports of hail up to golf-ball sized from that cell right to the MI-ON border.

When I listen to my NOAA Weather Radio during severe weather, the TWC scroll comes way before the alert is announced on NOAA Radio by the NWS. You would think NOAA would broadcast the warning, and then TWC would relay it.

I remember this day. I live in Holt. My kids were on spring break from school. I hate the fact that our sirens went off here but the suspected tornado was way at the very southern part of our county. Oh well, better to be safe then sorry I supose.

After the Tornado warning, why didn't they show it on the weather bulletin? Sure it on the bottom, but it scrolls so it could be helpful to have it on the bulletin.
There might be more severe weather on Wednesday as the front shifts back south and east.
This yesterday I heard a quiet siren and had a tornado warning and also my neighborhood had lots of houses and they update us that it was cancelled
