The only part I question is the additional 200kg for the battery. A friend said the future replacement to his E-Class wagon, which he drives at 140 to a 160 mph regularly, is a hybrid. The battery is a dead weight to be carrying around. He's trying to figure out what he can get instead that will allow him to continue to drive fast (shaving hours off his journey times is important). That 200kg is having two people sitting in your back seat all the time. Without a doubt we need better battery technology. Ten times the capacity for a tenth of the volume and weight. That said, I'm sure when we get to see the finished interior it's going to be a very special and nice place to be.
I'm so torn, because Henry tells us how, in the end, it all just works. Yet it's huge and heavy and pointless in a way as well. Just for thought: From about 4:50 to about 5:20, don't all these systems explain exactly why all this power is pointless? You can't exploit it, because the laws of physics always work. The car has to use a gazillion teraflops of CPU and a ton of hardware to keep it all on the road while you hang on and steer, feeling like a hero, while not doing all that much to make it happen, even if you think you do. Newsflash - you cannot exploit that power. The car and it's 2,000lbs of hardware and CPUs must keep you in check because that much power would vaporize if you actually tried to use it unfettered. Imagine the traction control alone. I'm not a tiresome driving reductionist. I understand the satisfaction you can have in something like this, and concede that the rich certainly know something I don't, but isn't this ultimately stupid?
