Just the plain C8 Corvette is a terrific car. I think the ability raise the car so it doesn't scrape (an option on the corvette) makes it unquestionably the more practical choice.
Man watching your channel since 2017. You guys just keep and keep delivering world class quality car content. All this stuff you research and put out here publicly about the development of cars will be studied for years to come. Thank you.
I think we’d all appreciate and praise the new NSX if it hadn’t been so expensive even on the used market they are nearing C8Z06 prices which is just insane
That's the natural consequence of making a single-generation sports car. The R&D and tooling cost is immense, so while companies like GM and Porsche* can streamline the production process of sports cars by refining production over multiple decades, Honda inflates their perceived value of the NSX because it cost them so damn much to build. Unfortunately it's similar to the curse of the LFA, where people looked at it and thought "well damn that's just not fast enough for the amount it costs", but down the line everyone realized it was a really special car. *actually Porsche is a poor example, hot damn the new 911's cost so much
The difference is the NSX has performance and an engine similar to regular performance cars and other supercars. The LFA has a naturally aspirated engine and an amazing sound which isn't the norm anymore and hasn't been for over 10 years, at almost any price point. Outside of a couple of nearly one-off multi-million dollar supercars that no one will ever really drive, there haven't been any cars similar to the LFA. On the other hand, most sport cars and supercars have a turbo V6 and / or electric motors and AWD. There just isn't much special about the NSX today so no reason why it would appreciate in price.
Yea and some like the type s arte9 going up in value because so few were made some people will never see one on the road. .with electric advancements I see more power front motors with solid state batteries just as cool and reliable taking this down to the one second range and tunes for the turbo intercooler with 1000 total up 700 torque. Hopefully Acura will one day release mods for performance and looks. Manual update infotainment dash pled instruments headyailingts body kits chips etc.
Mark and Jack, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for making this piece on the two vehicles that shaped my love for the automotive experience and my career as a fluids engineer!
The NSX is the car community in a nutshell. They give you a good car so when it's on the market you're going to criticize it say it's terrible say it's not good just because other people say it and not have a valid argument as a why you don't like it and why it's not good. But as soon as prices start to go up you're going to join the bandwagon on that and then talk nothing but praise about the car and also say that nobody ever said anything negative about the car whatsoever in the past. It's almost as if in the car Community is very shamed upon to have a actual opinion about a car or vehicle and all what you going to do is repeat what everybody else says about it other than actually say how you actually feel about a vehicle but then also say that you bought it for yourself you don't care what other people think. An that the Car Community
@@MikeForsythe Or! Listen to this, what if, the efficacy/success of a product is determined by BOTH its characteristics AND its price! Concequently, the NSX, now that it is cheaper than it's competitors makes more sense! Also, you're no more than a hydrocephalus. "Muh car community", touch grass
Hearing Honda basically had their own LFA ready for production only to drop it and make this instead is disappointing to say the least lol I get it was more about pushing the boundaries of engineering/tech and they certainly predicted the direction cars would go (similar to the R35 GTR when it came out)….but damn a high revving v10 from Honda would have been a treat…. Amazing work as always
The effort you fellas put in on these episodes is mind blowing. Kudos to you both, and as an old Honda nerd I really enjoyed hearing from the Japanese engineers on the NSX.
@@WhisxBeerus You think they left it out by mistake? Lol. If you haven’t figured out how biased this channel is against *gm* or how much they hate them then you’re part of the channel’s problem. What I’m saying is this video was _clearly_ made for the Japanese apologists and Acura NSX fans, therefore they titled it correctly. They didn’t make this video to highlight them both, the E-Ray in particular, nor the Corvette in general. The title will attract the Honda fanboys and that’s exactly what they prefer to be in the comments of this video. It’s no longer rocket science what Savagegeese’ deal is.
@@G-Rated I don't get that at all. I like Hondas. I like Pontiacs (r.i.p.). I like Mazda rotaries. I've owned more 70s muscle cars than most people, as well as Japanese sports cars. not much into the german autos though. They've done lots of videos across many makers; seems to me you hate Japanese cars and hate that they approach them so positive. I hate SUVs but don't think this channel is SUV biased because I see so many damn videos on them. Would you say Top Gear had a Merc bias because fat boy loved burning tires off of the top models? He also talked great about the RX-8, then gave it a slight at the end ... so if you don't hear him saying it felt squirrely for him off the track, you just hear how great it is; that wouldn't be bias for the Japanese car, that would be you not hearing the whole story, because your rage biased you from the entire truth. What is funny is I initially though you had a witty response, it isn't in the title to get more clicks because more people will click for a normal Corvette than the E-Ray. I thought why tf would you compare a hybrid with a V8 other than the layout changed to match them; but it being an E-Ray makes more sense for the comparison now. Why do you not like Japanese cars? For me, German cars tend to not be styled the way I like them and decades of hearing how they aren't reliable enough and they don't treat you well enough for how much it costs 'used to be good' was the general sentiment; older ones were million mile cars, somewhere in the 80s/90s they were 'crap'. Hearing that enough with styling that doesn't mesh well with me sums it up. What got under your skin about them? I had a 76 Nova fastback with a fresh build 350 along side an 88 RX-7 and a 75 GrandVille. I got a 97 Eclipse GS-T after someone ran a stop sign and bent the frame of the RX-7. Its interesting comparing all three of the latest produced Japanese Super cars; LFA vs NSX vs GT-R. LFA was an emotional, focused exotic from a company not known for risk. The NSX a high tech, tech forward do-it-all car from a company known for handling fun and exciting engines The GT-R was budget super high performance from a company, well, known for that! LFA and NSX were very much one off cars, where the GTR has been sold for 15 years. The differences in approach from all 3 on similar products is an interesting conversation to have one day.
Your point about the difference in advances in programming between the dev time of the NSX and that of the C8 corvette is valid, But there was already a high-performance benchmark on the market when the NSX hit the market. The Nissan GTR came to market with an advanced AWD drivetrain and a twin-turbo V6 that delivered 0 -to -60 times under 3 seconds. I think one of the reason the enthusiast market was disappointed with the NSX is because it cost significantly more than the GTR, had a more complex drivetrain, but delivered less thrilling performance, at least on paper.
Gents, I want to thank-you both for this very educational video. As a proud owner of the C8 eray I now can fully appreciate this car. I have plans to take the car to the track and after watching this video I can’t wait!!!!!
Thanks to work, it took me several days to watch the video. It was well worth it. I like both cars, and nothing is better than learning about their history. I have to admit I am a bit partial to the Z-06, but it is nothing short of amazing what both the NSX and the E-Ray teams accomplished. Thank you for making it so enjoyable!
So 18 months ago or so it seemed like Mark was losing enthusiasm for the content. Jack was/is still stoked even with the more mundane models they review. I get that a Subaru isn't the same as a 911 Hybrid but the deep dives these guys do is really the best part of TH-cam. I'm not in the market for anything and if I had to buy a new vehicle I already know what I'd get. That being said the production values and cinema photogragraphy along with the seamless breaks between location's make these episodes the easiest and most enjoyable to watch.
I do prefer somewhat the e rays less tacky look to the normal corvette. I’m no fan of the new corvettes look, but I do appreciate how Chevy makes is affordable compared to its competitors.
Great video, guys! Thanks! About the lap times, we must have in mind the NSX has 130hp less than the E-RAY. That said the Lap time of the E-RAY is so good that it would be probably faster than the C8 Z07 on your leaderboard with the same Cup2 R tires! But even considering the lovely NSX is out of production now, the E-RAY is about to face the competition of the new hybrid 992.2 Carrera GTS!
they shouldve made a pretty toyota mr2 competitor, much more effectiev to marketing toward non normies too. high mpg momentum preservation compact 4 seaters couldve been their thing too. they now making new prelude but itll have to have lot more grip per tire than used civic with modifications and be lot cheaper to run even with fake engine sound, while competing with aptera motors at beign cheap to run and interesting looking... whoever is running honda is a traitor
Exactly right: "Think of the electric engine as a modern way to supercharge an engine" This is how manufacturers could have accelerated adoption. Hybrids for effficiency as one path and hybrids for performance on another path (would still be more efficient that SC or TB a direct injection engine).
funny how similar britt impression with keiichi tsuchiya impression on NSX. the front end is unpredictable, e motor is like on off switch and too artificial, even he also struggle to handle the front end. just watch tsuchiya video review with NSX on tsukuba
Excellent “long play” video. This channel is in a different league from all the other car channels. Congrats and thank you for the in-depth analysis and review. Would love to see you put Cup2 R tires on the ERay and run it on your track. Keep up the great work
What’s also pretty interesting is in that Blazer EV video Mark went into detail about how much data collection Google seemingly does with the software inside the car and how several other models from GM and other companies collect data via Google based software. I’m curious if TH-cam, being a company owned by Google, didn’t care for that too much and removed the video….I don’t know how all that works so I’m not going to point fingers but it does seem interesting to me…
@@eastonwheatley3047yeah but a lot of it was inaccurate. These guys are not software engineers at Google or GM. There were some assertions made that were inaccurate or misrepresented.
Also just to be clear, I don’t like the new Blazer EV, I’m just curious why the video of their thoughts and full review on the vehicle got taken off TH-cam after being uploaded for less than a day
I am here for the NSX primary but enjoy the breakdown comparisons and I would like to say the long travel in the NSX the exhaust notes during the entire drive is incredible and I ask if you would do your show more while driving as you did here today in the NSX.The sounds of the exhaust and your conversation was awesome and I hope you keep it up for me incredible experience & my kind of podcast experience exclusively state thank you for that experience & I say again please all of your conversations have them while getting the car incredible thank you.
The videos you produce are exceptional. The detailed analysis along with the pro driver times and input are so far beyond even the other good reviews let alone the many superficial and shallow ones. Thanks and Keep it up.
It's funny how people jumped on the hybrid NSX for being too expensive. Well the Gen one was 60% of the Ferrari 348 and 50% of the 355 price with 90% of performance. Now the Gen 2 does exactly the same if You compare it to cars like McLaren Arthura 200K+ or Ferrari 296 300K+. Even the new Porsche 992.2 GTS hybrid starts at 150K. And from all of those cars I would pick the NSX. A Corvette E-Ray is an absolute bargain! But let's face it it will be super popular so NSX has it covered in that regard. And it will be the most reliable out of all of them. If Honda/Accura would release the hybrid NSX now it would definitely be more popular just because there is more hype around hybrid supercars.
Finally! When the E-Ray came out, I saw it as Chevy's answer to the NSX. It's the same concept but added to a more capable base platform (NA V8 vs turbo-charged V6). Thank you for doing such an exhaustive comparison of these cars! Despite the passage of time and the end of NSX production, it's the perfect matchup.
@@mitchellsteindler it’s labeled as Project Manager on my LinkedIn because eventually I got promoted from Assistant Project Manager to the actual Project Manager! 👍🏾
Honda should have followed the original formula and made an all motor screamer and kept the car at around $100K. A 3.5 V-TEC. Then, they should have come out with a lower compression turbo version at a higher price a few years after launch. Then, a facelift. Then, lastly a hybrid turbo version, to keep it relevant.
So basically what *Chevrolet* has just done with the Corvette C8, but at half the price. Honda should’ve just hired you because it sounds like you’re giving the manufacturer the gameplay they should’ve considered since it’s now obvious they have no clue what they are doing. 🤦🏽♂️
I think the original NSX was also a semi flop and didn’t meet sales demand but look at them now 20 years later lol hoping this new one is also the same. Maybe not. Who knows. Cars are expensive these days so I give up
I disagree. It’s not the NSX name that people under-appreciated. It’s the price. Everyone was so excited about this new gen coming out until the price emerged. Same price as actual supercars with supercar badging. The price was a letdown and why it didn’t sell well.
Nevermind this battle of cars that most can't afford. When is Turbowski making an appearance on this channel again???? OG's will know exactly what I'm getting at....
Excellent video, as always. In the future, could you please not cut up the hot laps so much? It's harder to follow when you keep showing the driver or flying shots.
Great video! So much value in this Corvette and it’s about 100 times cooler than an NSX or a Porsche. Respect to the NSX, but it’s time is over. Corvette baby, all the way!
Around the 7 minute mark, what the Honda engineer says about it being their duty to keep moving forward… I think he is severely misguided in that forward progress can be judged by many metrics, and the one they are seeming to use is “do what everyone else is doing, pure EV is the way of the future” rather than setting the continuous improvement of driver engagement as as their goal. I think what they did with the 2nd gen NSX’s hybrid system is cool and I actually like performance hybrid, but it’s obvious that driver engagement has suffered compared to the original in a way that cars like the Miata have managed to overcome. I fear that if they go full EV on the next generation they will be following the crowds at the expense of the experience, and in that case, WHY EVEN MAKE IT ANOTHER NSX because in spirit it won’t be. Please let me know if you feel the same or if you disagree with me.
It'd be nice to see an actually driver focused EV that isn't Rimac levels of unobtanium. I think that expecting cars to keep "their soul" or whatever in the modern age is somewhat misguided. Much as I hate to admit it, cars today are as removed from cars in the 90s as cars in the 90s were from cars in the 50s. Things are going to change. Regulations exist, if you want to get around them, build a kit car. Lastly, "it's their duty to keep moving forward" and your issue with their actions are simply the issues with a company being a company. They're in the business of making money, "doing what everyone else is doing" is just how to make money making cars in the contemporary era. The pearl clutching in the car community about cars most of them will never be able to afford anyway is almost funny. Anything good is going to appreciate faster than most can save for them, anything new is either soulless by necessity or so expensive it's not for anyone normal. It's a comedy at this point, I basically just consider them video game cars at this rate.
@@WeAreCheckingthe entire idea of a car losing its soul or having a soul in the first place is one of the dumbest and most nebulous concept that has ever come from the car community. Same thing with labeling everything that isn’t designed for sporty driving an NPC vehicle. Like you said, times change, regulations change, engineers come in with new ideas, attitudes towards speed and feel change, and technology improves.
@@WeAreChecking people can’t afford them because they want to milk people so bad they would rather have no sales. Also stealerships… Soon cars aren’t even going to be desire objects anymore.
I saw the newer NSX for the first time a couple of weeks ago while driving. I think it's a stunning looking car in-person - very different than in video or pictures. I was interested in it when came out and I'm still not, but I hope companies keep making cars where they're willing to push boundaries. I think that the engineers you interviewed said it wasn't made for the track so the complaints about it on a track aren't warranted or rational in my opinion.
Watching Tsuchiya-san climb out of the 2nd gen NSX for the first time, his dissatisfaction was unbelievable. It was like someone was actively farting in his face while he tried to tell you the pizza he was eating wasn't that bad. i pity the Japanese engineers who bent over backwards to make that car work,
Its not the same philosophy as the original at all: advanced lightweight chassis, great suspension design, reliable simple drivetrain, manual and engaging controls. Now it's a heavy, complicated, automated AWD with a good suspension. The Lotus Evora might be the real NSX 2.0
I am a big NSX fan, but why is the assistant NSX project manager saying at 8:00 that second-gen NSX hybrid tech was unique and ground-breaking at that time? Holy trinity of hybrid supercars was back in 2013, and by 2017 there was multiple high-performance hybrid-assist sportscars. If anything NSX was late to the game, which is part of the reason it didn't sell well, it was "been there, done that".
@@savagegeese yes, in that context he is correct, NSX was the most affordable hybrid supercar at the time of it's release, although still priced too high for the target demographic (as you mentioned in the video). Maybe it's just the way the video was edited and spliced together that makes it seem like he was talking about the Honda tech as the cutting edge.
@@edgarrhee8240 I think on the back end it was high tech. Today you can buy e-motors, diffs, gearboxes from suppliers OTS (ZF etc). Back then it didnt exist, they had to make it all in house so, in their defense it was all industry firsts.

Everyone in the video sounds and looks genuine and speaking from the heart with passion about cars. Unfortunately, Mr Rivers appears to be reading from a script that he rehearsed. C'mon man.
@mitchellsteindler I took it as he couldn't/wouldn't speak from the heart about a project he supposedly had a passion for, or maybe he overall wasn't genuinely thrilled about the result of the joint venture in some ways and wanted to literally stick to the company script to tow the line
What I am encouraged by watching this technical reappraisal as an automotive engineer is how much time was spent discussing long term reliability cost of aging electronics of the Eray out of warranty. I can only conclude that this is a complete non-issue because Mark and Jack will cover these costs for Eray owners, large percentage of Eray owners being technically clueless and having no idea how deeply they have fallen into the abyss of trying to afford an Eray out of warranty. There goes little Johnny's college fund. Thanks guys.
The problem with both of these cars is the same as most sports cars on the market today. They are priced far beyond what most car enthusiasts can afford. Imagine telling your wife, hey babe I am planning on buying my dream car, it costs over $140k and if we finance it over 8 years with $15k down it will be a monthly payment of $1880. Very out of touch car industry.
Yes they are expensive. But as noted you can get a V8 Vette for reasonable money. And the hybrid tech in the vette will trickle down and be as common place as turbo systems sooner or later.
Got to pay to play. The E Ray despite its costs is still probably by far the cheapest way to get into a mid engine sports car with that performance envelope. It's democratized to a point but not meant for the masses.
I feel blessed every time I'm given this level of commitment to the love of driving by Savagegeese. Until I eventually get back into the saddle you guys have ensured I'm not missing out - Thanks you Gentlemen - I can't convey how serious your efforts help probably many guys around the world.
I own first gen NSX and this Gen NSX. please remember that Honda developed this car A decade ago and now other manufacturers are building on their previous work. So we should expect more advanced vehicles. However every time I drive my NSX at least A dozen people stop to take pictures of my car. That doesnt happen in A corvette even if you have faster lap times lol
Maybe not even that. I find it very strange that GM gave them a car they know will be tracked with AS tires. 500 bucks more would have given them the PS4S and that would have made a difference. Also the type of tracks and straightaways will make a difference. Im many YT shows on E-rays they never still after all this time have an -eray vs Z06 on the same day with the same tires.
This is a great format. I would love to see more comparisons between new and old cars with similar capabilities. While I love watching new car reviews, the gearhead in me always wonder what older cars are out there that can hang with a few mods.
@jackholmes8105 is the ERAY the better street car is the question. Wringing out the Z06 on the street (possible exception of low traffic mountain road) seems like an exercise in frustration with upper rpm biased powerband

I have a 1993 NSX that I had the engine fully built and installed a SOS 2.1 KB. It now makes double the HP. Now it has soul. My issue with original HP of both NSX is that they played it too safe. By the time it was released, the other guys already had more HP. The Ford GT 3.0 is what the NSX 2.0 should have looked like in terms of being low and wide.... and in terms of starting HP. Both cars have TT V6.
@@CarsandBikes As an owner of an ‘02 I think the car has plenty of soul in stock form. That said, your complaint, shared by myself and many others, is Honda in a nutshell. It’s why our cars can run to 400-500k miles with just the maintenance schedule. It’s why I think we may see high mileage NC1s. The TLX-S could easily have 400hp but I surmise they err on the side of dependability.

@@ktakashismiththere’s absolutely nothing special about the new NSX. Every new mid engine supercar is an AWD turbo V6 hybrid

The quality of your guys' content is fantastic. Highlight of my day whenever a new video drops.
Man..in all seriousness Savagegeese’s videos are on another level. Thank you for the quality and detail.
I love cars - almost all types - but I really hate much of the car community.
I always loved it. I'm just too poor to actually buy it.
Yes sir! Same thing will happen with the GR Supra
The NSX sold best when there was 30k off. So it shows people wanted it but the price didn’t match.
@@MikeForsythe Or! Listen to this, what if, the efficacy/success of a product is determined by BOTH its characteristics AND its price!

Honda was ahead of their time…now everyone doing what they are doing. Great job Honda/acura.
Hearing Honda basically had their own LFA ready for production only to drop it and make this instead is disappointing to say the least lol

The effort you fellas put in on these episodes is mind blowing. Kudos to you both, and as an old Honda nerd I really enjoyed hearing from the Japanese engineers on the NSX.

This is a very impressive deep dive into the NSX and E-Ray. Thank you as always!!
Should probably add E-Ray to the title.
I don't see why people have to choose one and hate the other

Don't forget the sleepers rlx and mdx sport hybrids highly underrated.
Its interesting comparing all three of the latest produced Japanese Super cars; LFA vs NSX vs GT-R.
LFA was an emotional, focused exotic from a company not known for risk.
The NSX a high tech, tech forward do-it-all car from a company known for handling fun and exciting engines
The GT-R was budget super high performance from a company, well, known for that!

What’s also pretty interesting is in that Blazer EV video Mark went into detail about how much data collection Google seemingly does with the software inside the car and how several other models from GM and other companies collect data via Google based software.

@@jackholmes8105 LOL.. cool..thanks for letting us know I confused big time. I was trying to figure out why they gave you that build when they know you were going to track it.. I would love to see what it would have done with CF wheels and Cup 2s. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll be able to order one. I have been on a list for over 3 years. I got the call a month ago but had to let it go because GM for some dumb reason dropped the AYM and a few other colors. Most options Im flexible, but not the base color after paying over 100K. lol Now I have to wait for teh 25MY and price increase, but a new yellow.. Anyways , great show, I loved it.
Thank you for yet another terrific and informative road and track test comparison. TBH, both cars are really attractive and both have loads of character.
Would I buy either of them? No, but that doesn't mean that I'm not grateful that cars like these can still be driven and appreciated by you and other top-flight motoring enthusiasts.
man that nsx is beautiful
Thanks!
