To this day one of my favorite Jeff Foxworthy jokes is the one about meeting the couple whose brother/brother-in-law had his nipple bitten off by a beaver.

The Dude Dad opening for Charlie in Colorado video brought up comments that touch on something that's occurred to a lot of people - that the heirs apparent to the original Blue Collar Comedy Tour comedians could be Charlie Berens, Taylor Calmus, Myles Montplaisir and Penn Holderness (the H.O.T. Tour - Husbands of Target). 😂

All together would be hilarious, but didn’t they do one all together as “Midwest neighbors”… I believe the skit was called.

When they were talking about native Americans living in tandem with the land, I was picturing Jeff and Charlie in their native American equivalent selves way back then doing the equivalent of stand up comedy being well known and welcome, touring the villages and bigger developments along the lakes and rivers. 😁 I'm thinking they would never be wanting for dried fish, clams, corn, and pocket jerky!

Jeffis and Charlark, the exploration continues!
I also enjoyed that part, I find it more interesting listening to their hobbies rather than the art that made them famous.

1:09:14 - Charlie talks about how when his comedy is in flow state on stage that some of his best stuff occurs to him then - and Jeff says so too - and Charlie says that to him, that's a "proof God exists" moment.
I think that's exactly right. My ears perked up extra sharp on that one - I've had the same thought and have the same belief - not about my comedy (cuz not a comic) but there's definitely that phenomenon that occurs when you're creating something and working toward / striving toward something and at a certain point of putting in the work, almost a tiny quantum leap occurs - a certain serendipity and higher level quality occurs and it feels as if it's part momentum but also feels as if it comes out of a higher, more collective energy source or power, etc.
    - you've tapped into the creative force of the Universe - it's a real thing. It's so real, that it's something we can not only use and tap into but trust. Kind of like the concept of how, if we do all the necessary xyz steps and preparation, the other ingredient and step, at a certain point, is to then also sort of let go of the results and just "trust the process" - cuz that's where the real creativity and results tend to happen - the magic, etc. The good results we couldn't have imagined or foreseen otherwise ourselves.
And yeah, that phenomenon definitely feels like it's part of something greater than and beyond ourselves.
There's an element of that experience in the "luck is when preparation meets opportunity" concept as well.

I just discovered Cripescast 3 days ago. I have seen your grandmother, your aunt, your brothers and sisters and now, this discussion and dozens of short clips in that three days. We moved from Wisconsin in 1981. Your work always brings my wife and I back home when we see it. Thank you @charlieberens for all that you do! Your podcasts may be your greatest work to-date. Huh. I was born and grew up in Oshkosh, WI and at the end of this podcast Charlie says he and Jeff Foxworthy first met in Oshkosh. How appropriate (for me anyway 🤪) that two of my favorite comics met there! 😁😻❤️ I remember the video of Charlie's interview with Jeff (might've been that meeting - it's on Charlie's y t video channel). See that video if you haven't - Charlie gifts Jeff with the perfect Craigslist Kicker item / objet d'art.

Charlie: don't know if you'll see this comment but yeah, that's gotta have a heartbreaking element to it when your favorite material / videos don't get the views / recognition / appreciation they deserve. Don't know the solution for it except for you to just know that YOU love it and that still counts for something and to be grateful for your having made it and to know that you just gotta keep creating the next things.
I imagine that if it were me, I would almost have to have a little mental memorial almost - kind of a little ritual where I fully appreciate it and am grateful for bringing it into existence, and express gratitude for it, give it the place in my heart it deserves, acknowledge that it's not the mass reach or recognition that gives it value but what it means to me, acknowledge that public hits and misses are an essential part of the creative process, and accept the work and celebrate it but also put it aside mentally so you can then consciously move onto the next effort.
But also, always know that there's always going to be at LEAST one other person out there who saw it and or will see it and who loves it just as much / who sees in it and appreciates what you did too.
But also, be okay even if that weren't the case - have it be enough that YOU loved that bit. Just because someone else didn't value it doesn't mean it's without value.

Larry the Cable Guy: it had been a dream of mine to see Bill Engvall live and I got to about ten years ago or so. He was touring with Larry the Cable Guy who I also loved from the Blue Collar Comedy Tour days, movies, cds, etc. but his comedy wasn't always as consistently funny to me as the other three - Jeff, Bill, and Ron White. Larry's comedy could veer off into the inappropriate and be just punch below the belt type unfunny lazy humor sometimes.
BUT. Seeing him live the time that I did, I couldn't tell you if his segment was 30 minutes or an hour. All I remember was how I was that I was laughing so hard and non stop, - so hard that afterwards my face and abs were sore. I was crying from laughter THE WHOLE TIME. It was genuinely like witnessing a virtuoso performance of stand-up comedy. Just unreal and I'll never forget it.
He was the last act and so many people I passed on the way to my car afterwards were talking amongst themselves in a kind and of awe and omg disbelief at what we'd just seen and experienced. And I turned to some of them and was like "I know, right?!" 😳😲

10, 000 year old Pipe carved out of stone. Then Showing it to Foxworthy's Mother and She says

    Seemed like an Easy Laugh.

There's a part here where Jeff and Charlie talk about getting feedback from the audience to make jokes that bomb or don't do so well work better.
Deon Cole uses this idea as part of his stand up act to great affect. A good example of this are the y t videos Deon Cole: Just A Few Jokes for the StandUpForFamily event.

Charlie. Let's have a little talk. First. I hate you. In the nicest possible way, and 100% rooted in the deadly sin of envy, of course. 2. That was the best 1:39:00ish of my life! 3. There are hundreds of not thousands of lonely minutes in Manitowoc that have not been broadcast on TH-cam. 4. Have I mentioned how jealous I am that you are friends with one of the best comics EVER! 5. If you suddenly see a spike in views, it's because I'm sharing this all over! 6. Happy Easter.
