I made my way all the way to Tier 7/8 with the help of your video! I'm now more efficient when i'm building my base, but i can't wait for more tutorial!!!
really hope you continue this series as its been amazing. probably the best beginner guide I've seen on youtube so far and has given me a lot of inspiration on how setup my factory more smoothly and where to go next. cheers
I really need a part 5! I've watched every part so far. Very useful tips & tricks. Super cool that I can follow your steps and do the same. Can't wait for a part 5!
I use the first water extractor to charge the first two goal generators. Once they are full of coal and water, they carry the load for the rest of the power needs. This way only need biomass to power one miner and one extractor. By the time I built the rest, coal and water have filled pipes/belts. Loved your video!
This series is awesome!!! I started a second playthrough following your guidelines and it's doing great. This is actually my second time starting; the first one is a mess but I got to start steel and got overwhelmed and took a year break. Now I'm excited again!
As an Automation Engineer, I was wondering why you chose to use 6 biomass generators to kickstart the coal plant instead of 1 and do a rolling ramp up? Would it not have been easier to connect the 4 miners, 1 water extractor, 1 biomass, and 1 coal plant initially, then once the first plant was online, wire up the rest in sequence, slowly ramping up the power?
You can also just wire up the whole thing, use 1 biomass burner and flick the breaker switch a few times until each generator kicks on. Each time the grid overloads it will take a few seconds which is about enough time for the next generator in line to fire up. I wouldn't recommend doing this at a real coal powerplant, but as far as I know you can't wear out your generators in game. I'd guess your way is probably faster, but if you've already wired up you don't have to disconnect everything to get it to work.
I'm over at Long Beach area but really enjoy watching these videos and following along, altering your methods to suit my location 😁 They're so helpful and so informative, I find myself coming back to watch em multiple times. Please carry on with this series if you get the time! :) I look forward to the next video 👍
I hope you come out with a new episode soon ive been really enjoying this series and its been really entertaining, i just got satisfactory and youve made me understand the core componets of the game. Thanks
Broooo. I need the next video hahaha. Your content and tutorial videos have helped me immensely with navigating this game. I have a few hundred hours in factorio so the ratio knowledge carries over well but the set up seems to be a bit different starting and with different machines to learn about, your series has been extremely helpful.
This tutorial was so simple and well explained that I think I could recreate this again without the video, this is awesome. For the first time I have a flat power production line! Love to see it
I create a basement for my coal generators and then run the plumbing for both the coal and the water underneath the generators and up through the floor. Makes for a very clean setup. Back flow is not an issue if you are not pumping more than 10m vertically. If you are pumping more than 10m vertically, put an inline water pump. I also put a buffer tank between the pumps and the generators.
Thanks for showing the math, I need to SEE the numbers in order fully 'get it', and this is also the video I've been hoping for because I already have your 8:3 coal generator set up built, so now this will show me how to double it's size. I'm also really psyched that each video is showing the natural progression of what you'll need to build as the requirements in the game get more and more demanding. This is the exact same spot I have my coal generators set up, however, my base is East of those Coal Deposits you set up, up on that Cliff in the Forest, there's 3 pure iron, 2 pure Quartz, 2 pure copper, 1 pure coal, 2 caterium deposits (one pure) etc up on that ridge. AWESOME trick, with the lower foundations to snap the water pumps. (lol, I keep editing my comment because I'm rambling while I'm watching). Interesting change, having the pipes ABOVE the belts instead of the old way of having the belts above the pipes. Why don't you need inline pumps for the water pipes? Is it because they're less than 2M Up?
The water extractors provide a headlift of 10m high already, so we don't need to use pumps in this case. If we had the platform higher, then we would need pumps to lift the water up.
@@spectrumdad_ Ah thanks, I've been obsessing over getting the platforms for the generators the perfect height so the pipes are all flat with no lift. (Your first coal factory video) Now I can use your new technique of using the platforms to snap the water pumps.
Hi!! I discovered something really useful, IF YOU DO A NEW SAVE, 30 SECONDS BEFORE THE HARD DRIVE FINISH ANALYSING, AND YOU DONT GET THE ALTERNATIVE RECEPY YOU WANTED, THEN YOU CAN RESTORE THE GAME TO 30 SECS BEFORE IT FINISHES, AND YOU GET A DIFFERENT RESULT!!!! Hope it helps!!! by the way love your videos
I have my coal power plant in the same area. I also put my crystal oscillator factory there as well, elevated above the first two coal miners and level with the iron node. I was able to get the iron wire and stitched reinforced plating so I can run it off of the single iron node. I am pulling the quartz from the cave as it is a bit closer than the nodes across the water. I am doing brutalist builds this playthrough and I am really enjoying exploring the style. I have quite a bit of extra concrete from my encased beam factory so concrete isn't a problem. My builds are looking futuristic '70's brutalist style which is quite a mashup. Haha.
Nice, that sounds cool. Yea the quartz in the cave, that place is fun... lol. I just googled that mashup, and that looks sweet. I'll have to try something like that.
Allready looking forward to the next part of this awesome kow-how-show. This series so far really got me into some ways of how one has to think to make progress in SF! Thanx for that 👍
Great video again! Just a headsup: You CAN use only 3 Water Extractors for the 16 Coal Generators, overclocked to 200% ofc. I always thought that if you fed more water to the pipe than it can handle (300m² in this case) it would just ignore the excess. Turns out it doesn't care and it can handle it. Did it on my current save and was surprised with this, helped me ramp up faster more power. Probably has to do with what you said about a single pipe not handling more than 300m² on its own. Waiting for you at the end of phase 3!
Yea if you feed them in the middle and ends you could totally do that. I hate spending shards this early in the game so I tend to not do that but it's a valid and easy way to scale up!
I am eagerly waiting for more videos! Great job, this has improved my gameplay so much. I did have a REALLY hard time finding which coal ore you went for but finally figured it out and Im up and running on coal for the first time, thanks!
Amazing tuts man, I have learned so much from these, keep up the good work. Me and the rest of commentators are impatiently waiting for the next tut, I hope everything is ok, coz it's been almost 2 months since last one.
I use only one biomass burner to start up a whole coal power plant. I fire the biomass up and let the miner fill the belts, then switch over to water extractors. The first coal power plant then provides power only to miners and water extractors to ensure that even if the main circuit trips due to overload there's always coal and water supplied to the power plant. Thus you'll never need the biomass burner again, once the self sustaining first circuit is up and running.
Your video's are so helpful, esp to a newbie, and someone who has difficulty with automation. I will be watching the rest of your videos on Satisfactory!
Thanks for these videos. I bought the game only 2 weeks ago and I would have been lost without getting these basic tips from your videos. Keep up the great work!
Knowing what I know now, I usually just start off with 2 Generators both OC'd to 200% with one Water Extractor OC'd to 150%. Then Double when I get close to the Capacity, 4 Coal Gens can Last me just fine, until I get Fuel Gens up and running.
You can mitigate the backflow issue by letting the pipes all fill pretty much as you did. Backflow only seems to happen when there is demand but not constant demand. Let them all fill then place the demand and problem solved. Likewise if you place a pipe junction and use that to line up both the center gen of the three as well as the water extractor things tend to look a lot better than having so many pipe junction. You do you though. There is no overall perfect way to do anything in this game. Just what is perfect for you. And, one thing you apparently aren't aware of but most people aren't aware either. Flowers. A better power source than biomass. A stack of 500 burns longer than a stack of 200 biomass. Not as good as solid biofuel, but considering most people sink or toss flowers when they are such great fuel early on it could be noted. And if you wish to sink flowers, they produce 10 points each. Wire only produces 6. Flower Power FTW!!!
that missing a generator messed me up so bad, i kept recounting wondering why it didnt look like yours but luckily i just did the same thing as you to fix it
Found it significantly easier to just set up 8 of the 16 coal generators first, that way the whole system is easier to kick-start and you need less materials in case your main factory started running out of biomass.
Watching you but those rotors from the awesome shop gave me physical pain 😂 Cool setup though! I like to build my coal basically south of there on the plateau where there are 3 pure nodes. Probably not the best use of pure nodes but it works for me because I can easily scale it over the course of the game to do I think 11GW ish?
Haha sometimes you have to do it. I always end up with hundreds extra tickets I can’t do anything with, so sometimes it’s worth it to power through some big phases. Also I’ll be using those nodes for steel soon, that’s why I didn’t go there. And I usually try to go for fuel as soon as I can instead of going too nuts with coal. But I’ll usually have about 3600mw of coal before making the switch.
Awesome set of videos, any plans for more and starting layouts for factories? Also when you do your videos could you some times look around to show how things placed usually you setup stuff but you don't take a moment to just look at what your building a few friends following your videos said it was hard to see what the final results might look like in some sections. Anyway awesome videos enjoyed them so far :D
9:10 Story of my life in every playthrough. Power grid fails while trying to add power to the power grid. This game is basically "Make More Power With The Power That You're Using To Power More Powerful Power Generators, Before Your Power Runs Out, With More Powerful Power Generators: The Game"
You don't need to power all the miners and all the water extractors with the biomass generators. You power 1 water extractor and 1 miner. Just get the water and coal in a couple of the coal plants. Once those are up and running, you can use their power to bring the rest online. You can do this with 1 biomass burner (1 water extractor and 1 miner is under capacity).
So, are all the water extractors supposed to retain their full reserve water (ie, the visual water bubble)? I start with full coal reserves on the generators and full water reserves on the extractors (using the methods described in the video). But the two outside water exactors slowly bleed off their water reserve until it's at zero and then the next extractor to them starts bleeding it's reserve off too. The generators are at full output and the generator water pipes are full. I just set it up, so I'm not sure if this is the way it's supposed to behave or if it indicates I did something wrong. Awesome guide!!
Hi Dad made my coal power set up a bit different because once i get to advanced steel I can change the miners to tier 2 then have 32 coal gen running love the vid btw...ok when is next 1 lol
I'm searching on youtube to see if I can find any guide to know what I must do after building the starter factory. There isn't even a single video to help with it. I built the Starter Factory which produces the basic materials. But I just don't know what is the correct way to continue and expand the factory.
Subscribed, liked and thankful for your tutorial! Now i understand some things a bit better than before. I was confused about the pipes. Also the layout looks more clean than ours. We mainly had problems with the water. But i wanted also to ask, what mod is that ressource thingy on the right? I absolutely love it!
I need to watch this video because Im old and I need help with the coal setup, but watching this video is giving me a headache with you jumping around so much!
Hi. hope you had a good Xmas and new year. Found your series after being away from Satisfactory for a couple of years. I've been playing along but now have got the power plant humming along. So, will you be coming back to the series. I hope so and plenty of people here likely feel the same...... Thanks
I´ve got a problem, the last two of each coal generators get no coal. I got 120 coal input on each 8* coal extractor lane , first 6 are perma full on 100 but the last two are struggling to get over 10
My wood refuses to process itself into biomass LOL :-D Leaves get taken from containter and processed into solid biofuel. Wood never starts running out to conveyor. Everything's powered, connected etc. So I am glad I upgraded to coal finally.
Are you using any mods in this video? I ask because I have not seen or do not know how to show the required materials I need for my intended build. Great content. Thank you.
When can we expect another episode? I'm not rushing you, I get that it's a busy time of a year, I'm just wondering because I really like building along :)
I do it the way you have (I messed up a little bit of placements, but same working order) but my middle generators on the left sequence of 8 slowly lose the amount of charcoal, and burn out after a while.. even after loading them all fully up with 100 and completely saturating the line before I turn them from standby to on.. any ideas? All lines are mark 2 from the miner mergers.
A no-foundation play-through!? I am a veteran with over 3 thousand hours in Satisfactory and no foundations is going to be a major challenge to make it look good.
if you preload everything, and you have mk2 belts everywhere and make sure you are sending 120 ore down both sides, it should be getting enough. Double check the lines, turn off a few generators to let things fill up, then turn them back on.
My coal powerplant is a differant design, for every 300/min water i can have 500mw. I run it on compressed coal, i call it bełchatowie cause its a lot of coal, freaking two pure coal nodes, thats insane.
hello Spectrumdad, I am a new player in satisfactory and your new audience. I have a question: should I find a new ore vein for a different setup? For example, I want to build an iron rod and an iron plate factory, so I need to find two ore veins to be the location to build them. I am confused because the veins are not next to each other. This is my first time playing a resource management game, so I am not good at this game. Thank you
I would like some help, if you hold on to a power pole then you wlk To wher you wish to place it , I CAN NOT DO THAT i THINK IT IS A STTING NOT SET RIGHT I HAVE TO LET GO OF THE POLE THEN WALK AS FAR A I CAN THEN TRY AGAIN, SORRY FO CAPS i HAVE HASD A STROKE HELP ME PLSE
Shit i knew about searching for buildings and for products with the quicksearch but not about that you vould calculate stuff with it… always had calculater app open in background lol

Hi. hope you had a good Xmas and new year. Found your series after being away from Satisfactory for a couple of years. I've been playing along but now have got the power plant humming along. So, will you be coming back to the series. I hope so and plenty of people here likely feel the same...... Thanks
I´ve got a problem, the last two of each coal generators get no coal. I got 120 coal input on each 8* coal extractor lane , first 6 are perma full on 100 but the last two are struggling to get over 10
Patiently waiting for the next episode 😬😬😬
Thanks for making this videos. It really helps beginners start playing Satisfactory. I'm just curious why is factorio music in background? :D
Do you ever consider to share your created world? It wuold be awesome to navigate trough all of this spectacular stuff that you are creating my man!
My wood refuses to process itself into biomass LOL :-D Leaves get taken from containter and processed into solid biofuel. Wood never starts running out to conveyor. Everything's powered, connected etc. So I am glad I upgraded to coal finally.
are you gonna keep making this kind of content ? CUS IT'S DAMN FIRE
Are you using any mods in this video? I ask because I have not seen or do not know how to show the required materials I need for my intended build. Great content. Thank you.
This series has been amazing...
Will there be more episodes?
I hope so. Thanks.
Yes next one out this week
when is it coming out?@@spectrumdad_
😥😢@@spectrumdad_
@@spectrumdad_ new episode when?😭😭
When can we expect another episode? I'm not rushing you, I get that it's a busy time of a year, I'm just wondering because I really like building along :)
I do it the way you have (I messed up a little bit of placements, but same working order) but my middle generators on the left sequence of 8 slowly lose the amount of charcoal, and burn out after a while.. even after loading them all fully up with 100 and completely saturating the line before I turn them from standby to on.. any ideas? All lines are mark 2 from the miner mergers.
You mention fluids backing up being in a different video, does your newest Satisfactory video (the 50 min one) cover this?
A no-foundation play-through!? I am a veteran with over 3 thousand hours in Satisfactory and no foundations is going to be a major challenge to make it look good.
Love the episode and build 😍 keep it up 😊👍 if you need someone else to build with I play this game too 😀
How do the four generator in the middle get coals? They are always empty. And i have mk2 conveyor between the splitters.
if you preload everything, and you have mk2 belts everywhere and make sure you are sending 120 ore down both sides, it should be getting enough. Double check the lines, turn off a few generators to let things fill up, then turn them back on.
@@spectrumdad_ i forgot to let fill them up! Thnx!
Thank you
Will you explore trains, drones, and other transportation of loot in this series?
Yes absolutely!
how are ya'll placing power poles and pipes on top of buildings like the splitter? It doesn't give me the option.
i did this one and had a issue where the water refused to pass 10 is that normal or did i do something backwards?
Love to se it. Whens the next vid coming out?
Great video
For some reason my water extractors arent working 100% efficiency and it keeps getting starved. i had to add anothher two
I would like some help, if you hold on to a power pole then you wlk To wher you wish to place it , I CAN NOT DO THAT i THINK IT IS A STTING NOT SET RIGHT I HAVE TO LET GO OF THE POLE THEN WALK AS FAR A I CAN THEN TRY AGAIN, SORRY FO CAPS i HAVE HASD A STROKE
HELP ME PLSE
Shit i knew about searching for buildings and for products with the quicksearch but not about that you vould calculate stuff with it… always had calculater app open in background lol
nice some factorio music in satisfactory
hey is there a reason why i cant see your live chat? its either the video aint working but the chat, or the video works but not the chat.
My build along game has been on hold for ages, any info on ubg5s release date?? 😀 I don't want to continue without you 😊
Working on it. Soon
u r so fire bro thank you
Those are rich coal nodes and output 120/min each with tier 1 miner.
They are normal nodes. There is 1 pure but it’s across on top of the plateau.
