mam, is it ok to loose weight in 3rd trimester after ur discovered GD n following low crab diet?????

Honestly a low carb diet, like keto is the best thing I've found to help GDM. I'm in a GDM facebook group and I feel so bad for so many women who are unable to get their numbers under control because they're strictly following their Dietician's high carb meal plans. I refrain from commenting in the group though, because I can be blocked for suggesting they go against their Dietician's recommendations...

@@womengaming6497 yes. I lost 14lbs during my first pregnancy just because of the diet change. I didn't actually try to lose. But I was overweight before pregnancy, so it wasn't dangerous to be losing.

You should be fine! Just make sure that you're eating enough protein and healthy fats in your diet to make up for decreased carb intake. So try to add avacado, cheese, low carb/sugar Greek yogurt, nuts, eggs, etc...

Pregnant women naturally go into ketosis all the time, look it up. It’s perfectly safe to be in ketosis especially especially if your overweight

I eat whatever I want within 150 carbs per day. I started 3 days ago and my body is in ketosis already. My face is already visibly less swollen from losing some water weight. I don't have a scale so I'll weigh at my next appt. I'm not tired either, in fact yesterday I was fine at 130 carbs. Just happened to be under, wasn't intended.

150 grams of carbs is not Keto. Your diet is low carb at best. You need to be under 20 grams.

I could only eat 15 grams of carbs with my last pregnancy with gestational diabetes without spiking my blood sugar 😅
Glad you and baby are healthy.

@@angelasoWALily Nichols says that pregnant women can eat more carbs and still be in ketosis. Not sure about 150 grams, but she said at 90 grams many pregnant women are in ketosis.

This is my third pregnancy and second one with gestational diabetes. I was able to control my blood sugar last pregnancy with just keto diet and adjusting my carbs to blood sugar. This pregnancy my morning fasting numbers are too high so the midwife put me on 8ml of insulin at night. Keto diet has really helped me control my gestational diabetes. And i don't feel like crap from blood sugar highs and lows.
Normally keto diet did nothing for me in between pregnancy, it didn't help me lose weight.

Should be ok. I eat hazelnuts sometimes. But just check your blood sugar every pregnancy is different so just don't eat too many nuts. 1/4 -1/2 cup probably. But if it spikes then less or none.

Could nausea during pregnancy be a signal to stop eating, and allow the woman's metabolism to switch to ketogenesis?

I've been doing keto for 9 months beacuse of type 2 diabetic.
And now I'm 3 days period late, and i found i positived.
Is it keto safe to do for whole pregnancy 1st-3rd semester ?
I always have problem even in keto with my fasting blood sugar, it was never below 100.

No. Keto is NOT recommended. Babies need carbs to grow.

I was doing keto before I got pregnant. I stayed on keto whilst pregnant.
I ended up having a miscarriage..
Baby wasn't growing properly from 6 weeks....and my personal opinion was because I wasn't having enough carbs. In my opinion...have your carbs your baby needs it for growth of all the organs ...you will get tested for GDM later in pregnancy...once you do and if you have GDM then start the low carb diet ( not keto however) . I'm pregnant again now, ate normally before 16 weeks. Then got diagnosed at 18 weeks with GDM...my consultant has advised 80-100g carbs a day, but this totally depends on each person's body, so go with the advise of the consultant/endocrinologist.

If you are following a keto diet, you can continue in pregnancy. Remember that we can manufacture carbohydrates from protein and fat. With that said, you will probably want to add some complex carbohydrates to your meals, in the form of fiber-filled vegetables, a few whole grains, and low-sugar fruits like berries.

Jeff is also fake peanut butter. It has trans fats in it. Also almond butter is actually better than peanut butter

Thanks. I eat Jif but I recognize that there are added sugars. Natural peanut butters and other nut butters are a good choice.

Assuming it’s not DKA, how many urine ketones are acceptable in pregnancy? Like trace to 1+ if USG >1.050?

Hello! I just found out that I’m pregnant and still waiting to go to my first appointment.
With my first baby, I had gestational diabetes and I’m scared to get it again, so I’ve been eating much better now.
I’m just really having trouble finding breakfast ideas because for a few months I can’t eat eggs, they make me sick. (That was before I was pregnant so I stopped eating eggs)
Any ideas? Thank you so much. Love your channel. ❤️

Don't know if you're still having that nausea, but maybe try some homemade bone broth with veggies? I couldn't eat eggs in the first trimester either and that helped me a lot.

I agree with Robin. There are good sources of protein and nutrition besides eggs. I make bone broth in my crock pot, but you can buy it at the store now. Plain whole milk Greek yogurt is also tasty and healthy.

This is so helpful! I have one question. I'm almost 32 weeks and I've been tested 3 times for sugar. The first test took one hr only and results went high so they tested me again for another one which is 3 hrs w/ fasting, results were normal. I thought I was okay already, but then again they wanted me to test for another one w/c is 1 hour again because my amniotic fluid is very high, results of that test were high again. Since my results are not always the same, is there a chance that I might be diagnosed with GD? I'm a little bit worried. Thanks in advance!

    • @DrTracyPapa
      @DrTracyPapa  4 ปีที่แล้ว

The basic screen for gestational diabetes is a one hour test, with 50 grams of sugar. The definitive test is three hours, with 100 grams of sugar. Since sugars tend to rise as the pregnancy progresses, it's not unusual to have to test more than once. Your screen may have been normal earlier in pregnancy, but can become abnormal later. If the amniotic fluid around the baby is high, this is a clue that your blood sugars may be high. Take the test as scheduled. If the new test is normal, your provider will help you take the next step and start a diabetic meal plan. Good luck!
