The first half of the th-cam.com/users/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.
In addition to being easier, I think for a kitchen or area as such, it is a lot more sanitary and durable than wood molding. It never needs repainting! It is impervious to getting dented and scuffed like wood molding. The bottom edge almost seals up against the floor, making flooring and subflooring less vulnerable to moisture intrusion. It is easier to piece in a new patch if necessary than wood as well, just cut the piece out to be patched with a utility knife. I have done cove base before, but it was "pre-TH-cam", this was nice review. The narrative was adequate & showing the v-notch clearly for inside corners was good for visual understanding. I agree, nozzle not necessary. I was going to buy a nozzle, but opted for a cove base trowel for the reason of being able to clean & reuse the trowel; the nozzles are pretty much one time use, no way to clean out the adhesive good. Thanks for taking the time to publish the demo, long live TH-cam. "Turn off the boob tube and turn on the TH-cam, educate thyself, no charge from the TH-cam community!"
The best way to do outside corners is to shave a thin slice off the back of the pvc cove. This stops it bulging as you go around the corner.Do NOT cut the bottom.. flared part..The inside bottom flare is cut 45 degrees for inside corners only.
+Ana White Yeah i made that mistake the other weekend LOL. just wanted to share. thanks for the tip on the inside corners. much better than trying to mate 2 pieces into the corner and make it look good. the scoring method is the way to go. hey i asked a question in the thread in the other youtube video about making the outdoor furniture out of 2x4's. it didn't look like you drilled pilot holes when you were driving the fasteners for the cross beams. did you drill pilot holes or not? i don't want to put all that work in and then have wood splitting all over the place lol
@@tinawoodell1957 I used this one - www.homedepot.com/p/Roberts-11-fl-oz-Wall-and-Cove-Base-Adhesive-in-Cartridge-Tube-7200-11C/100111743 - when I put some on my bathtub last year. Still holding good. Some leaked out the top when pushing it against the tub (wall in your case) so maybe be prepared for that with a hot rag or some such. Or you can scrape it off after its hardened in a day or so.
how about self stick rubber baseboard? I think that's what I have and is peeling away from the baseboard after about 15 years....do they make a self stick? If not when I remove this baseboard should I take the time to remove the stickum left behind on the wall or just leave it?
+Justine Cover whether it's plaster or drywall, you're pretty much guaranteed to do some damage to the wall. it's easily fixed though with patching compound. just smooth over patching compound to the areas that are damaged, let dry, sand smooth and flush with the rest of the wall, and you are good to go
I know I'm 4 years late, but to any one else that finds this helpful. if you strike the top inbetween the wall and trim with a sharp scraper/5 in one, it will separate it from the wall and you can peel it off without peeling up the top sheet of paper. I used to be a commercial painter, and I've had to remove many hundreds of feet of this stuff before painting.
If the floor is not 100% level or flat over a length of about 10 feet, does the molding have some flexibility to adjust for it? Maybe heating it in the sun?
What if you have two pieces butting together along a wall? Should they just be placed tight up against each other or leave a small gap to caulk? I'd think even if they were right up against each other with white molding you're still going to see a line.
What about outside corners? How do you cover the extra floor area that must be covered? (It's the inverse of the inside corner situation, where you removed a triangular piece.)
Hi Mike, Instead of just scoring, I cut a v groove in the back of the moulding for outside corners and then stretch it around the corner at the bottom. I don't cut the bottom just the back of the moulding. For most rubber base you can buy inside and outside corners. So if you can't get the outside corners to looks right, you can always buy them. Maybe others will have more ideas. Good luck.
Thank you, I just did a walk-in closet after watching this and it came out great, I really like that you don't use that glue spreader on the end, it's really unnecessary
That's my question as well. I just had a kitchen floor placed last week a and he used some type of spelly adhesive spray. I have 2 medical fragile children I can't have that type of smell in the house. I thought about buying some tiny black screws. My rubber pieces are black. Then get my tiny drill bit and drill a hole in the rubber molding and into the wood behind it ?
Tried shaving on scrap piece I had. Didn't trust myself with shaving with utility knife. Tried vegetable peeler and it actually worked!😂 Still gotta make sure not to gitoo deep but diy'ers like myself might be too nervous to shave it this way. Anyway. More than one way to skin a cat... amirite? 😂. Thx for the tips.😊
You guys just saved me so much time, frustration, and MONEY! I can't find any corner pieces that come smaller than a 30pk and costs $40-60 for some reason? I only need 3 corners. I have never been very "handy" but I'm trying to be more self-sufficient and thought a small remodeling project would feel empowering. It was starting to feel a little over my head but this simple maneuver brought me back around. Thank you for sharing! P.s. Any tricks for outside corners?
What is the max length of piece you would recommend working with? My cove came in a roll that's 120 feet long. Not sure what's the longest stretch I should work with.
You guys did a good job with what you showed but you never did an outside cut. Every one of your pieces you put up was an inside cut. I want to go around the corner which is an outside cat. How do you do an outside cut
Second thing dont flush cut your base. Aways cut it a 1/8"-1/2" long depending on the size of the wall longer the wall the more extra you want and thats because rubber base shrinks over time. Flush cutting it in 5 years every corners gonna have 1/8" gap and you dont wanna learn the hard way.
No need to be smug, or, act huffy. GEEZE. Because...I GUARANTEE, that if I go into my Home Depot and ask for "Cover Base", they WILL NOT KNOW what I am looking for... I guarantee it. Unless I make it IDIOT PROOF...and describe it as... " A Glue-able, rubber base moulding, thin, but several inches wide, for the bottom of the wall, usually for a Kitchen, or, for under cabinets, that comes in different colors. " Sheesh.
Great video! Question: I need to hire someone to install 240' of rolled, vinyl base trim around the concrete floor and wallboard walls of my shop and garage. It is about 240 feet of wall with 24 inside corners and 12 outside corners. #1- How many hours should a job like this take in clean GWB walls and clean concrete with no obstacles in the way? #2- What is a fair (but not high!) price to pay someone to do this for the labor only? I already have the rolled vinyl and the adhesive. I only need the labor. We live in western Colorado so it's NOT big city wages out here? Thank you!
Video clarity was excellent. A little more audible voice instruction of each step would have been helpful. But thanks for taking the time. This was completely foreign to me, but now it's not.
Right off the bat do not do one peice inside corners all rubber base shrinks up to 5 years after install and those inside corners will pull themselves right from the drywall. Wallpapers a bigger no no.
WRONG I SAW 4 THINGS THAT WERE WRONG. NO GLUE SNOZZLE WRONG CUT USE ONLY 1 ANGLE CUT NOT 2.YOUR INSIDE GAP AT THE CORNER WOULD NOT FLY AND THE CUT AGAINST THE DOOR JAM WAS TERRIBLE I CAN SEE THE TOES DOESNT EVEN HIT THE JAM FLUSH. YOU DIDNT LIFT UP AS YOU CUT IT TO PREVENT THE BASE FROM SLIDING DOWN THE JAM. ANYONE CAN FUDGE AN INSIDE CORNER.
This is exactly the video I needed. We had some water damage to the bottom of a laminate vanity and I think this is the perfect solution.
Great! Thanks for the visit.

I was wondering how to do this. Wrapping the bottom of a small laminate vanity, so I will have 2 outside corners.
i recommend doing the corner first and then laying the rest. that way you'll eliminate that small gap you see
+jgg204 Always appreciate feedback, thanks for watching!

Good morning I love your videos. What kind of adhesive is that?
After watching this video you just made my mind up....I will be using this type of wall baseboard instead of hardwood in my 1/2 bath
Thanks for the video! Very straightforward and helpful
I’d like to try this in my garage. Will this work up against concrete block and what type of adhesive would you recommend?
Ty
thanks, i had no idea how to do the corner!! huge help!
For everyone asking, you want "cove base adhesive". It's literally called cove base adhesive :)
Had some of it installed at work yesterday and it's already pulling away from the walls

@@incith well I'm not going to touch it haha. That man can come back and fix it. Thanks for the info. I'll know going forward for my personal projects
Can it stick to walls that's already painted?
Question, what glue did you use on the back? Also can I use this for the bathroom wall floor like how you did in the video?
What type of adhesive is this? I'm trying to do this in my bathroom with no experience and could use any advice
Nice job thanks for sharing.how you around corners on the outside
Thank you for the video now I know how to replace my base boards🥰🥰🥰🥰

Where did you purchase that moulding?/ Thanks
Hi, thanks for posting such useful video, just wonder any test has been done on accuracy or squareness of the table? that'd be much appreciated. Best!
how do you remove this stuff without damaging the subsurface?
