My dad taught me to use peel and stick tile on the inside of my cabinets, the tile cleans up easy and can be taken up with a hairdryer and a putty knife if you want to change or replace. Love how you did not over talk the subject and got right to work.

Contact paper works well for lining shelves as well and can be cut to fit, without the seams between tiles which can "leak." It's not as easy to find in stores as it was a few decades ago, however, in my experience.

@@LoriSews I, too, use peel and stick for the FLOOR of cabinets as ell as under sinks in kitchen and bath. My dad did this with tile he removed from their kitchens.

She is the reason I've done my own buildouts, fireplace surrounds, furniture etc. I would've never tackled and designed and built these things without her example over the years. There is something else you might love. Age makes it painful for me to do a deep knee bend. I bought a few plastic rolling garden carts. Picture a small heavy duty plastic tote on wheels. I can sit very comfortably on the cart to weed my garden, put air in my tires, or scrub my floors. Also it is easier to stand up from a sitting position than it is getting up from the floor.

Ana is the Goldilocks of DIY coaches. Some instructors speak to viewers as if we're seasoned pros, others as if we're morons. She always gets it just right, showing just the right amount of detail, explaining exactly what's needed to keep it clear & simple but no more than that so that it's memorable & we can walk away knowing how to do it with confidence. I'm thinking if Ana ever goes bonkers one day & decides to take up teaching organic chemistry to her subscribers, we'd probably all be able to ace the MCAT & get into med school, no probs! 😉

Thank you again for another brilliant but simple and innovative project, using the existing material is a great idea to avoid waste. I love your channel and website, especially as you encourage people to post their finished versions of your projects, it really inspires and encourages us to try. The free plans and reasonable projects costs really help us do more within our budget and you always take the time to walk us through your process and give us tips, tricks and potential pitfalls which I really appreciate.
My wife and I have now built multiple projects from your site including 3 computer desks (for son, mom and dad), wood storage cart, multiple kitchen cabinets and 2 amazing bookshelves (which my daughter is still trying to appropriate for her room). Based on other projects on your website we have also built a recycling cart, 6' rolling storage shelves and a kitchen/pantry stand.
All of the projects get compliments and when people ask where we bought them from, we love the reaction when we say we built them. I saw the modern dresser you made with a brad nailer and I think that might be the next one to try. Please keep the amazing content coming and thank you for all that you do.

Just seeing this two years after its been posted. Nice clear video that's to-the-point without a lot of extra babbling. The only suggestion I have is to install the slides in the base cabinet first, put in the shelf slides next, and then measure the distance across for the shelf width. Worked much better when I did this to my bathroom vanity's shelves. And in 2022 the price of those slides in 16" length is up to $9 at HD (inflation . . . grrrr!!). EDIT: Also forgot to add that I put a 6.5" drawer pull handle on the top-front of shelves I installed - makes it easier to slide it in-and-out, and keeps stuff from falling forward and off onto the floor.

Wonderful idea. An alternative to small rectangles for the shims is to simply fit a panel to either side or 4 narrow boards that are the height of the cabinet. That way you would have the option to change the height of the shelf by simply relocating the screws or installing an additional track.

This helped me take apart the broken pull drawer i have and fix the problem. The rails had nails in them not screws. No wonder it became loose and then would stick.

As a disabled senior living in an apt, I cannot alter existing cabinets. I measured shelves (height, width and length) found the best plastic bins that will fit and while sitting down in my kitchen, I can reach everything without standing on my head.
However if I was an able-bodied person owning a home, I would find someone to do this for me. Excellent presentation, simply explained.

This was awesome. I have several situations that I can use this wonderful idea for. I had a drawer pull out made for under my kitchen sink, it cost almost $300. When I saw how easy it was for him to install, I knew I was going to have to find another way around this that wouldn't cost so much money. Thank you for your excellent tutorial.

I would recommend furring out the entire length of the slide for face-framed cabinets. We have some pull-outs that were here when we bought the place. Over time, the slides have bent where they aren’t supported by the shims, and now I need to beat up my knees and back to replace them. The former owners might have used too light-duty of slides, but a few more materials might mean fewer headaches down the road.

Those kits are so expensive so I appreciate this! I’m disabled and it is hard for me to get things from my lower cupboards. I checked into the kits to help make it more accessible and it just can’t be done once your income become is affected by disability. Ironically, the things people with limited mobility need just to be independent in the rest of the world are too expensive if they become unable to work very much. We become very creative in getting our needs met. This video is extremely helpful and I think my son can actually help me do this! Thanks!

Darlin, you just became a my new best friend LMAO. I have literally spent the ENTIRE day looking at videos to organize my kitchen. I am 100% disabled and wanted to make draws in my kitchen cabinets. Everybody and their uncle had different methods and one girl even had an entire workshop full of state of the art equipment that I wound up rolling my eyes and got rid of her in a heartbeat lol. Thank you, thank you, thank you, you are an angel in disguise ❤️

Thanks a ton for making this video. I am not a full time handyman at home with not lots of tools. Since my wife has issues with bending down to look for things in the cabinets. So I started looking for the ways to put in sliding drawers in the cabinets. I had looked at different videos how to go about it, but yours was the simplest way with less cutting and simply steps. God so bless you, dear.

Saw this and it gave me the confidence to cut up our $$ cabinet shelves with the wife watching. Worked great, thanks Ana, very happy! One lesson learned for me was I measured the cabinet opening for the shelf width but my 3/4" plywood shim material was about 1/16" shy of the frame. Should have measured shim-to-shim rather than face opening for the shelf width.
