when you remove the vinyl base, it's best to get it started as you did, but then push it down from the top edge to the floor as you go. This prevents tearing the drywall paper above the base line. Pulling it straight off will damage the drywall. Also, any loose drywall paper needs to be rolled down with a 3"or 4" roller using a product called guardz, it soaks into the paper and sticks it down. I found if you don't do this, the base won't adhere properly because of the loose paper. You probably already know this, but I thought I would just throw it out there. Always enjoy the video's... Thanks
hey Chris, looks like your cove came off pretty easy. I have found sometimes if tough, I sometimes have to use wide spackling trowel as minimize wall damage. good video as usual.Rick
Thanks Chris...is there a particular drywall compound you recommend for repairs under the rubber cove base? I have a job where I'm concerned the cove base will pull away from areas that are repaired.
Have no issue with what you did there, but I just installed brand new cove right over the old, I started to take the old off and it was applied to you he and grove pine, Sheetrock and brick. Not a pretty scene taking it off pine, and Sheetrock ripped and broke. The old stuff was thin and it's been on for over 40 years. It's in a school, the old got filthy and stained from waxing floors. It came out darn nice, I know the next 40 someone may complain when they want to replace it but it will look good for that time. It should look cleaner longer anyway. Good luck.
Thank you for the video. My molding came off quite easy, however I do have a very sticky base wall. Any suggestions how to remove the sticky reside from the vinyl thats left on my wall? Thank you.
I'm so glad you made this video. I was asked to to replace the vinyl rolled baseboard with wood. I am a finish carpenter to remove the vinyl install wood doing mental walk through to create my bid. It's a 2 story condo lower level 2200 sqft upper 1750. Needed faster way to get it done quickly. Thank you for your vudeo!
How easily it comes off I think depends a little on where it's installed. For example, I had to remove some from a porch that didn't have AC and the adhesive was so baked in that I had a heck of a time removing it. Great tips.
I have to repair some base in a doctor office ,I should say ,re adhear ...should I completely take off and clean ,or fill with a contact cement and press it back to the wall?
I removed this stuff from my kitchen but there is lots of dark hard brown stuff stuck to the walls. I'm slowly chipping it off but it's gouging the plaster. Is there an easier way to get the brown stuff off? What's the best way to repair the gouges before priming and painting? Can I use wall patch and sand or something harder? This is original kitchen floor edging in a condo built in 1974. Such fun... Thanks!
We rent a condo for work and have this ugly beige vinyl stuff in the bathroom and kitchen. Since this isn’t my house I don’t want to invest the money to install nicer baseboards. Can I paint them? I’d like to paint them white. What products do I use?
We ended up removing them and installing baseboards. Our neighbors had leftover from redoing theirs and gave us the extra. It was just enough to do the bathroom. They look great.
Whoever installed that cove base obviously decided to use a quart can of adhesive to install 5,000 lineal feet of cove. It’s a wonder the stuff didn’t remove itself the day after it was tacked to the wall. If the material was adhered with anything like an adequate amount of adhesive, damage to the Sheetrock is inevitable. As seen elsewhere, it’s a good idea to run a utility knife along the top edge of the base to minimize tear-out above the molding. And be prepared to be filling, sanding and texturing the exposed Sheetrock if you are converting to a molding that is shorter than the cove base.
Chris!!! I'm a painter.... thanks to you!!!! I haven been having trouble with painters tape ripping off paint on the wall when I tape to paint cabinets. I have tried green frog tape. I find it does not stick well. I have tried the 3M blue tape.... same thing, rips paint off the wall! I'm tired of buying a 25$ quart of paint for touch up when the homeowner doesn't have any. What can I do?!? Also! You should do a fitness video for painters. Show us good stretching exercises. Maybe a better ways to do things while we work to take stress off the body........... without having to take a pain pill at 10am. Thanks!! I want a PAINT LIFE shirt!!!!
Mine is nothing like that . Won't come off no matter have carefull I am . Why are you using an example so easy which is not most people's experience. It's not helpful anyone can do it if it's that easy.
The guy we hired to do this just ripped the drywall paper all along the wall and then said it was because the walls were painted the last time without taking the trim off. I think it's because he didn't bother to cut along the wall and trim to cut the paint.

How did you get the glue off? We’re doing the same thing…
replacing with wood.
I don’t like the rubber.
Thank You in Advance

Yes, thank you for watching!
I want to see how you tackled the new cove base. A challenging task
Yes, I will have to show that next!
very informative. good video, and great work. keep'em coming
Thanks for watching!
What di I do if I stuck it to the bottom of my "wood" cabinet? NOT so easy to remove!
If it's tight to wall and it's a pain to get off. Go over it.
What do you do for old coving that's become hard and just breaks off and your having to chisel off chunks all the way around?
On concrete walls, I use a jack hammer or a small floor scraper with a sharp blade.
How can i paint my existing Moldings? Which paint do i use? Thanks.
BM Advance
@@Idahopainter What's that? A bit more specific...
I have to repair some base in a doctor office ,I should say ,re adhear ...should I completely take off and clean ,or fill with a contact cement and press it back to the wall?
Can you paint around it?
Can you show installing cove base? I tried to do it in my house and had disastrous results with adhesion.
I will have to show that
lol its nice to see when cove base was properly installed. makes for easy removal
Yes!
love your vids man
Thank you!

There is not an easier way to get it off, you just have to patch the plaster when you get it off
Nice tip, thanks.
You are welcome!
Looking forward to seeing a video on a sandblaster; out.
Yes, can't wait to try it out!
Awesome. Out.
I have what looks like tar paper behind the base cove and I don't know how to take it off..... thanks

paintlifesupply.com

Yes, we have one crew. In the winter we are slow with interiors. But in the summer we make up for it. We are always booked through the summer

We rent a condo for work and have this ugly beige vinyl stuff in the bathroom and kitchen. Since this isn’t my house I don’t want to invest the money to install nicer baseboards. Can I paint them? I’d like to paint them white. What products do I use?
THATS EXACTLY what I'm doing, or want to do. What did you do?? I'd just like to paint them.
We ended up removing them and installing baseboards. Our neighbors had leftover from redoing theirs and gave us the extra. It was just enough to do the bathroom. They look great.
How to remove the Glue?
chris how I can get the dimensions for exterior house
We get it off Zillow
Please play the John Cena theme song behind your videos 😂thanks for the tips!
If you're doing lots of Cove Base Removal you use a stair tool on a stick and never crawl. The video is on my channel.

have you ever done drywall in bathroom next to shower?

Try cutting the line between the tape and the cabinet before you pull the tape off, or take the tape off before paint dries.
Try No VOC tape.
lol, that is a good video for a video! Unfortunately, no matter what I do I am always sore at the end of the day, too old now
There is much more glue on my baseboard. I’ve read a heat gun will work if you’re careful.
Mine is nothing like that . Won't come off no matter have carefull I am . Why are you using an example so easy which is not most people's experience. It's not helpful anyone can do it if it's that easy.
who's in the video is it john cena again can you tell him i can't see him lol
lol, I'll let him know

Interesting
It's that easy as long as the last installer didn't use too much.
Mine is glued to wooden paneling and I have to hack it off with a chisel...
This is so wrong , never pull the base like that , always pull and push it down , I'm a flooring guy with 25 yrs of experience.
How can I paint my existing moldings?? What type of paint do I use?
Zac? Zack? Zach?
