It’s called a quilt guild! Our members are constantly bringing in tons of fabric to meetings, free for the taking. Sometimes it’s a member downsizing their stash, other times it’s from someone who’s passed away.
So many wonderful ideas for quilts! I have an over abundance of scraps to the point that I told my husband, that 2025 would be the year of scraps! I have some others I want to do too, but we shall see. I've yet to make a list of all the quilts I want to make. I have want to make a huge crumb piece of fabric to so something with. Thank you for listing all the free quilt patterns and some others that might be of interest to purchase. I'm one that needs to SEE something. I'm not too good at making things up. Thanks again for such a great video, and God bless!
Greetings from New Zealand. I love the wide range of quilt patterns and as churn dash is top of my list at the moment, really like those with the Dresden plates in the centre. Thanks very much for the inspiration.
I can’t take my eyes off your Good Vibes quilt, I’ve been eyeing it for some time and trying to decide on my fabric choices, knowing I have to use a something from my over the top collection. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on future quilts.👍❤️😊
Scrappy quilting is my favorite. I like quilts, bags, pillows and pretty much anything you can think of. Scrappy is what made me want to learn to quilt. I have so many of your free and purchased patterns downloaded for this year.
I’m in the process of using my orphan blocks in a “communique quilt” setting. I’ve been having lots of fun with this. It is definitely scrappy. Some of my blocks are from when I was learning how to piece blocks so I’ve had to add borders to some to make it work.
Am very much looking forward to your video on The Village quilt. I love those orphan blocks too, can’t wait to see what you make. I am inspired to use up my scraps more this year, thank you 👏
One of the most fun Quilt lectures and workshops I attended was, “Orphans and Aliens: Creating Quilts from Space Junk“ with Leah A Zieber. She showed you how to take all of your orphan blocks and turn them into one cohesive quilt. In my case semi-cohesive because my Quilt blocks range from Civil War to Solids and everything else in between. It was sew fun to see everyone’s quilts coming together. I call mine My Memory Quilt with 15 years of blocks.
I love your plan of 4 scrap quilts a year. I am working on organizing my scrap stash. Seeing what I have is inspiring me to make a bunch of scrappy quilts. But I have so many others to make, too. So planning 4 a year is such a stress releaser. And if I can make more, that's just a bonus. 🙂
I love scrappy quilts thanks for sharing. Just finished your Brightly sampler quilt, I know, I just started it & could not stop so finished, I sewed with Laguna Sunrise.
Love love the scrappy quilts. I am finishing up my quilt top from Lori holt prairie quilt called plaids. Then on to my next one of yours home and heart quilt. ❤❤❤❤
Question you said you save hst’s and when you have enough you make a quilt. How many are enough? It’s a lot of inspiration you give us all thank you 👍🏻💕
Hi Sherry. 2025 is my scrappy quilt/ project year. Although I am probably too aggressive by thinking I can do 1 per month. I finished a table runner with 3" calculator tape and a plain background to practice fmq!! Wishing you and I good luck from Wasaga Beach Ontario Canada!
I’m a total newbie to quilting but not to sewing. I found your site about a month ago when looking around with a broken wrist and foot and unable to do much else. Now I can sew but in short bursts as my hand tires easily. So scrap busting will be perfect. One QUESTION please. Would there be any problems making a scrappy quilt without any wadding for our hot summers. I live in Australia and certainly don’t want a warm quilt on my bed in Summer (it was over 100 degrees today) but I still want it to look nice.
thanks for the ideas hmm good idea one scrappy quilt per quarter off to the planner put it in Claire and white board reminder to start first quarter : )
I try so hard, but I’m finding that I just don’t like making scrap quilts. Too chaotic for me. But I do admire those who enjoy making them and have beautiful results.
I’m liking the challenge with scrappy to use 2-3 colors vs all scrappy. Within those 2-3 colors one can be all the same fabric and the other 2 are scrappy. White background (same fabric) blue (scrappy blues) and yellow (scrappy yellows). The blues and yellows can be only 5-7 fabrics vs 55! But scrappy is not for everyone. That’s what makes us all different!
I think it isn’t for everyone. We have some things that just don’t work for us. For me I enjoy making something out of the mess and then taking it so it doesn’t look just like a big mess of scraps but a design. Maybe you can find someone to trade with or sell your scraps. That way you will still “use” up the fabric. I have a couple sewing friends who have given me their scraps and they love seeing what I make of them. Bowl cozies, baby quilts, table runners.
If you don’t like it, do what you do enjoy. I love scrappy, but I appreciate that there are many who do not. Life is to short to do things you don’t enjoy!
Great video with so many ideas! I need to get to work (but who calls quilting work?). Can you tell me where the baskets with the wooden lids can be found?
Thanks! Im hoping to make my very first quilt this year! Id like to do your block of the month. Never done BOM. Is every block the same or different? I also d/l the village pattern. Thanks for the free patterns.😊
Your scrappy trip quilt doesn't have a definite diagonal to me. How is this going to look? I've made a couple of Bonnie's Scrappy Trips and used similar fabrics for the diagonals. I'm excited about your plans. I have a "crumb" Courthouse Steps started already with several blocks completed and I will combine with sawtooth star or the star from Bucket List as the other block instead of Woven Star.
On your QAL you mention in the first pattern about a table runner? Is that the project using the 6” blocks at the end? I was trying to comment on the blog but it’s very glitchy and slow. Not sure if others have this issue?
Last year I made a low volume scrap quilt for my son and DIL. It is gorgeous. However, my son lives in the EU and their local PO has lost the package. I’m still hurting!🥺
Frame your orphans, sash them otr do 4-patches, to get all the same size, piece a few alt blocks from scraps or strips, do a memory quit? Stick them to a wall, find out which need to be bigger. Do you put sashng on the blocks, to sew rows withour really long sashing strips? Web piece, hve you tried potato chip blocks?
I have a different definition of a scrap quilt. To me, its putting all my scraps together without much of a pattern, and without really cutting fabric to size. These patterns are beautiful but to me, they are patterned quilts, not totally scrappy. Does anyone else think this way?
Just to clarify the strippy spools quilt pattern from FQS is not a free pattern as Sherri said 😬 I love scrappy quilts but need more time for all the projects on my to do list 🤣
Yes but most of your scrap quilts, like Kimberly , are color cohesive. My scraps are all over the place because I like to make all different kinds of quilts from many different designers. So colors don't match at all. So scrappy is difficult!
Hi, RuthK, to me, scrap quilts mean using up leftovers from old projects so I have a lot of different things to try to make go together. I've found things blend better the more fabrics you have to pull from. I try to find pieces for each block that kinda vibrate when they get together, what I mean is to my eye they set each other off, sometimes I thrn look for a next fabric that will help them play well together, a transitional fabric that sets them off. All the time I'm pulling fabrics I'm looking for those little vibrations they set off that to my eyes looks like a good combo, even if they don't match! That more the merrier, I say!
I did an Irish chain quilt with extra scrappy stuff and it really works better than you think! They were all 2.5 inch squares so not much of each print.
I love making scrappy quilts. I wish there was a depot where people can drop off unwanted scraps and I could use them!😅
My quilt shop sells them by the bag😉
It’s called a quilt guild! Our members are constantly bringing in tons of fabric to meetings, free for the taking. Sometimes it’s a member downsizing their stash, other times it’s from someone who’s passed away.
I love scrap quilts, too. They are so happy 🤗
I love the look of scrappy quilts and really like using my fabric scraps.
So many wonderful ideas for quilts! I have an over abundance of scraps to the point that I told my husband, that 2025 would be the year of scraps! So many quilt patterns so little time!
This will be a fun year for you with all of these darling ideas!!
Looking forward to see the Village quilt finished.
Thank you, Sherri, for a lovely, inspiring video! Love your channel!
Love scrap quilts and looking forward to seeing all yours Sherri, especially the orphan blocks as I have a lot of those too. xx Karen
All of your blocks are beautiful!
Greetings from New Zealand. I love the wide range of quilt patterns and as churn dash is top of my list at the moment, really like those with the Dresden plates in the centre. Thanks very much for the inspiration.
Thanks for sharing so many different ideas for scrap quilts. Yours are so pretty and fun!
Thanks for sharing your ideas- Love them all!!!

Oh youre going to have a good year with scraps. Love it and will definitely be watching
I love all of your patterns & who can turn down a scrappy one. Thank you for making these available.
Love all the quilts on the table. Thank you got the scrappy inspiration.
Always love your colors and patterns and ideas
Thank you for all of the great scrap quilt ideas. Love scrap quilts and may try your quarterly challenge.
I use my orphan blocks to make pot holders or hot pads. I love all your ideas!

Awesome idea. 😁😍😍
Such cute scrap quilts! This was inspiring.
I LOVE this today!! I am really wanting to do scrappy quilts right now, so thank you for the inspiration! Especially love the Strippy Spools!!
Am very much looking forward to your video on The Village quilt. I love those orphan blocks too, can’t wait to see what you make. I am inspired to use up my scraps more this year, thank you 👏
Thank you for sharing all these wonderful ideas. Scrap quilts are on my list this year too.
Love the one hanging in doorway on your right🥰
Thanks for all your ideas and inspiration .Love scrap quilts .
I like to make hot pads out of orphans and scrap blocks. I make a pile of them and set them out at thanksgiving and let guests choose to take home.

Scrap quilts are the best. So much fun.
I'm doing the Star Climber using FQS Sew Sampler fabrics.
Your scrappy quilts are gorgeous, Sherri!
I remember when that Honey Bun quilt block and QAL came out, and I loved it. I look forward to seeing your blocks all sewn together.
Thank you for sharing the beautiful quilt blocks. ❤
Great video, Sherri!! Love all the scrappy inspiration! ❤❤❤
Great inspiration! Thank you for sharing and being so generous!
I really like scrap quilts and especially your quarterly goal! Thank you for this inspiring video! ❤
I love scrappy quilts thanks for sharing. Just finished your Brightly sampler quilt, I know, I just started it & could not stop so finished, I sewed with Laguna Sunrise.
Ooh, the scrappy spools quilt looks exciting. Thanks for the video.
My thoughts too!!
Thank you for sharing. Stay warm.
I plan on doing stripy spools, not sure is it will be scrappy but it’s on my list this year!
Thank you for this video! I need to start a scrappy quilt! It was very helpful to see the blocks and quilts.
Loved this video. Great ideas
So many great ideas! Thank you!
I love them all. Thanks ❤️
Thanks so much for the inspiration. I love your use of colour!
Thank you! Love your channel
Love love the scrappy quilts. I am finishing up my quilt top from Lori holt prairie quilt called plaids. Then on to my next one of yours home and heart quilt. ❤❤❤❤
Such good motivation! 🥰💖
Question you said you save hst’s and when you have enough you make a quilt. How many are enough?
It’s a lot of inspiration you give us all thank you 👍🏻💕
Thank you, nice ideas.
My brain is spinning with ideas now, thank you!

I am working on the star Climber quilt once I get the foundation paper. Can’t wait to see what you finish
Thank you for the ideas
Great scap busting quilts

Where did you get the white basket with the wooden/bamboo lid?! Love that, I need one or more of those. 😉
I found some similar all plastic ones at the dollar store the other day. They're remarkably sturdy, given the source.
Thx, scrappy!
thanks for the ideas hmm good idea one scrappy quilt per quarter off to the planner put it in Claire and white board reminder to start first quarter : )
thank you for pattern
Thank you for the inspiration! I’ve always been scared to do a scrappy quilt because my fabric doesn’t go together!
I try so hard, but I’m finding that I just don’t like making scrap quilts. Too chaotic for me. But I do admire those who enjoy making them and have beautiful results.

Right, I get that there are ways to manage it. I’ve tried various ways over the last 20+ years, and I’m tapping out from scrappy. Thanks, though.
I think it isn’t for everyone. We have some things that just don’t work for us. @@connieking9873 I don’t have scraps or scrap bins. I use up any bed quilt leftovers in a variety of small, non-bed quilt projects.
If you don’t like it, do what you do enjoy. I love scrappy, but I appreciate that there are many who do not. Life is to short to do things you don’t enjoy!
I love your bins!!! Where can I get them?
Great video with so many ideas! I need to get to work (but who calls quilting work?). Can you tell me where the baskets with the wooden lids can be found?
Hello. I'm organizing my sewing room. Where did you get the containers with the holes and widen top?
Hello from So Cal…..enjoy watching your videos. I love scrappy quilts. Was wondering where you got your project bins with the wood lids? Thank you!
I have a bunch of orphan blocks, too. I really want to do a quilt with them.
Where do you get the white plastic totes with wood tops?
Hi Sherri! Such beautiful quilts! Where do the white bins with the wood lids come from? Love those!
Thanks! Im hoping to make my very first quilt this year! Id like to do your block of the month. Never done BOM. Is every block the same or different? I also d/l the village pattern. Thanks for the free patterns.😊
Saw your other video about the different center blocks. 👍
The stripy spools is 10 dollars
Great ideas! Do you plan to make any smaller scale projects like you have on your back wall? I want to do small projects in 2025. Thanks
Could you please tell me where you got baskets with the lids. Thank you
Was also wondering that
Your scrappy trip quilt doesn't have a definite diagonal to me. How is this going to look? I've made a couple of Bonnie's Scrappy Trips and used similar fabrics for the diagonals.

Hi Question, do you always press your seams open??this was great video
I am doing the Star Climber quilt from FatQuarter shop
On your QAL you mention in the first pattern about a table runner? Is that the project using the 6” blocks at the end? I was trying to comment on the blog but it’s very glitchy and slow. Not sure if others have this issue?
Last year I made a low volume scrap quilt for my son and DIL. It is gorgeous. However, my son lives in the EU and their local PO has lost the package. I’m still hurting!🥺
In your video, you mention that the Strippy Spool quilt pattern is free, however, the link to it shows it is not free. Is there an error on that one?
Would appreciate help with using orphan blocks❤
What is the star quilt hanging on the door to Sharry’s right?
Hello from Australia - that quilt is called Good Vibes -I found it on her Pinterest page.
I have a lot of orphan blocks that I also want to do something with them.
Frame your orphans, sash them otr do 4-patches, to get all the same size, piece a few alt blocks from scraps or strips, do a memory quit? Stick them to a wall, find out which need to be bigger. Doesn't look like the Strippy Spools pattern is free? I clicked on the link you posted, and it shows $9.98?
Just to clarify the strippy spools quilt pattern from FQS is not a free pattern as Sherri said 😬
I love scrappy quilts but need more time for all the projects on my to do list 🤣
The gumdrops one isn't free either.
💟☮️
Ive got a brand new janome machine
Yes but most of your scrap quilts, like Kimberly , are color cohesive. My scraps are all over the place because I like to make all different kinds of quilts from many different designers. So colors don't match at all. So scrappy is difficult!
