I did this route with the grandkids 2 days ago. It was sleeting. Just drop the Bronco into Mud and Ruts and climb up in 1st 4H with no issues. Fun first adventure for the kids. They thought we were going to die. It was just a Sunday drive without worries. I had a Honda Prelude once. It would have had issues on Old Bucktown, but could have done Nimblewill with relative ease.
Back in the 70s gilmer county was so peaceful...I love the memories of snowfalls..first the first thing we do was hit nimber wheel (that's what we called it😊) I would love to travel that road again.. I often wonder does it still look the same.
Well it is still beautiful for sure. Couldn’t say if the road is better or worse but I will say it’s a great way to spend a day and absolutely worth the drive. Safe travels
Your jeep is a lot more capable than you think. Yes air down and unhook the front sway bar with your switch and the ride will be better. Speed is also a important factor and can give you that whiplash feeling for sure. Good videos of our backyard paradise. There are a lot of cool places here and most people have no idea and have never been there. Did anyone find your duck yet? That’s a fun idea.
You are absolutely right it definitely seems to happen that way LoL. We haven’t been out much at all this year but we are heading out West very soon. Safe travels to you and I hope you have a great summer.
Absolutely it was a fun day. We also enjoy watching y’all’s videos as well. There are some great rides close to home here in North Ga but we truly hope to make a trip out West soon for some amazing content and beautiful views. Thanks again
Hey Guys!! We can't wait to get down to GA and get some of that beautiful woods for our channel! We are stuck up here in WI for another few months before we can hit the road! A treasure hunt is a very cool idea! Gorgeous views! Really enjoyed this beautiful ride!! 💙Terry and Terri
Please accept our apologies it appears that when I originally responded to your post my response didn’t post. Thanks so much for watching and the positive feedback about the treasure duck we weren’t sure how it would be received but we hope it just adds to the fun. When y’all do get out to start riding again wishing you safe travels. If Georgia is on your list look us up.
@@wearebackroadsbound No need to apologize - that stuff happens! You are very welcome! We definitely hope to do a lot of exploring in GA - thanks so much!
Well I'm enjoy y'all watching y'alls videos and stuff this is Ronnie from Georgie down here in Social Circle Georgia I got a gladiator too so maybe we'll meet up on the trail or meet you at the Jeep Invasion can I go there every year see you bye
Hey Ronnie thanks for watching and the comments. We truly love our Gladiator and this whole overlanding off-roading community. Hope we see you there can’t wait for Invasion in 2023.
Did Old Bucktown Road and Nimblewill Gap Trail on November 25th in my GMC Canyon Denali with a 2" lift, was very bumpy but what a great trail. Stopped right in the "duck" area to let the dog run around but didn't know to look!
Hi, i just started a channel (jeepNdirt) and want to record material in that area too. I just found your channel and appreciate your straight forward approach. Nice 👌. God bless you both. I'm subscribed.
Hello so I have discovered that through my apparent operator error my response to y’all months ago didn’t post. So thanks for your comments and we have watched your channel as we’ll. Best wishes to y’all and hope to see ya out on the trails.
So my wife and I were up there Saturday Oct 22/22. I have a Subaru Crosstrek that in more capable than folks give it credit. Water over the hood and stuff like that. Anyway we went up the Nimblewill road to the big turn around and decided not to take Old Bucktown. Was that a wise decision? (Probably if we were alone) My main concerns are sharp rocks because I have the smallest A/T tires I could get my hands on. When I was a tweener way back in the early 80,s my best friend and his dad and I did it and we ended up in Amicalola State Park. His dad said it was the backdoor way in to the park. Is that still the case?
Hey Andrew, thanks for the comments and yes, I would say avoiding Old Bucktown Road if you are riding alone is probably a good choice. There are some spots that is very rocky and definitely not where you want to be stranded if you cut down a tire. Otherwise, I think your vehicle is probably very capable of making it up choosing your lines carefully so as not to be off camber in the ruts. As for the roads leading over to Amicolola may have been closed by Forestry service a long time ago. Safe travels and hope to see you on the trails someday.
So, I came down this by myself (was fishing in the area, and was looking for a my secluded spot) in my stock Crosstrek. It was doable, and I feel like some of the spots hit the upper limits of both me and the vehicle. It was fun, but I wish I had a spotter with me.
lol I think you’re watching for the wrong reasons. Also we ride in the woods so there definitely these things called bugs. Tho your welcome to come ride on the hood and keep it wiped down. Karen
When I bought my 2023 Tacoma trd off road truck 2 weeks back at Toyota dealer in johnson city, TN they had a beautiful metallic blue colored gladiator with black colored hardtop for 46 grand. It only had about 7,800 miles on it. I was close to buying it but it had 35x12.5 wide tires. Knew it would cost me a fortune in gas to drive it back and forth from northeast Tennessee traveling to visit with my 23 year old daughter in richmond, VA so I passed on buying it. Next march I will be 59.5 so then I can take money out of my 401k. Then i might decide to buy a big gladiator or a Toyota 4runner trd pro model off roading vehicle. That way I would gave a good 4 wheeling vehicle and keep my Tacoma as my good iggway only driving family vehicle.
I use to live in richmond, va for 34 years. One of my good friends was Jim Byars who was a service writeup guy at sheehy Ford. He grew up in ball ground,ga back in 1970's through 1997.
Could I maneuver on this trail with the stock 265/70r16 size Goodyear wrangler all terrain tires on my 2023 Tacoma trd offroad truck? In the future I plan on putting on 275/75R17 tires and wheels which have learned are almost equivalent to size 33 tires. Also add the toyota trd 2" lift kit.
Honestly unless you’re going hardcore wheeling I think any of those vehicles are great for just getting out and off of the beaten path and enjoying the ride and the beauty God gave us.
@@harolddenton6031, I used to take a VW Thing up there with no problem. Even before that I took a Beetle with over sized tires. This is not a hard trail.
We road through there back in Feb of 2021. That road about beat us to death. Definitely don't get in a hurry. I like the treasure hunt idea. Curious if anyone has claimed the prize yet?
Well thanks for allowing folks to get turned around if needed at your road. But I’m actually pretty sure that we drove straight up and over didn’t turn off anywhere. But I’ll head back up that way sometime to see what drive way you’re speaking of.
Just letting you know that after getting your message earlier and knowing that the duck should have been easy to find. We went and rode Bucktown to check. It was not there anymore so it has definitely been found we will post a video about it tomorrow and hopefully hide another one soon on our next adventure. Thanks for looking and good hunting for the next one.

Hello and thanks so much for watching. And no he is still in hiding but hopefully soon. Good hunting.
Pro tip.. clean the splattered bugs off your windshield if you're going to film through it. Makes viewing a lot easier. 😉
Lol Troll much
Perhaps I’ll get the wife to stand up through the top and wipe it regularly for ya. I mean a dirty Jeep who would have thunk it
