A hidden gem in North Georgia

  • FIRST OFF:
We titled this “Hidden Gem” because it is on the verge of being shut down. This road is not on a normal map and it is through a rural area with people who moved out here to get away. That being said, the last thing they want is hordes of Jeep clubs coming out and rutting up the roads after a rain. The area around each water crossing is environmentally sensitive and should not be driven on. Perhaps the logs blocking the path and big I beams stuck in the ground was not a big hint… I wanted to take the time to film this trail while Jeeps are still allowed. PM me via the facebook page if you need more info. This video has as much to do with the Jeep trail as it does a warning to fellow Jeepers.
“If we fail to learn from the mistakes of our past, we a destined to repeat them” Take care of wheeling areas or they will be gone.
To all the people who want to tear stuff up...
If you cant take care of the stuff you have you will ruin it for the rest of us. Sorry to harp but if you are not even a subscriber and leave troll like comments they will not be published. If you want to tear stuff up do it on your own land not a protected and environmentally fragile area. There are plenty of places to do that type of off roading - this is not one of them.
The area has had a great deal of trouble with this in the past and heavy fines are issued to anyone getting caught off the trail. Once this land was owned by individuals but now is in the hands of the forestry service. Some of the early settlers have been laid to rest in the graveyard at the end. The area had a school, churches and several hundred residents. Unfortunately vandals have not only destroyed the environment but also burnt and destroyed the church and most buildings. The grave yard remains.
    Come Jeep in February.

We have a hard time finding trails for exactly what you were preaching. We live in Tennessee. We just want to find a good trail, look at the scenery and enjoy the ride. People always have to throw out their trash, trash the trail, and mess up a good thing for folks like us.

Having a destination and some history always makes for a better drive. That and finding reptiles. Ocala has way too much trash along the edges. Last September the club filled a 20 foot trailer with trash from citrus. Tennessee is on the next trip. I really want to ride through Nemo Tunnel before that gets closed as well.

I just finished rewatching the Georgia Traverse videos. I have seen other videos of the Traverse but yours is by far the best. Your commentary is part of what makes your videos so interesting, the other part is the video quality taken by none other than Randy, and of course your video contributions. There is one thing I also love is the sound your red Jeep makes, sounds like a Jeep should. 👍👍👍

Keep spreading the message brother. Up here in NY everything is posted or gated, I believe, because of folks tearing it up (mudding) and littering. LEAVE NO TRACE people, respect and be respected. I always think of the minute ecosystems that are destroyed through stupidity. Even hiking and biking I try to minimize my impact on nature. You wheel like I do, slow and easy. If you want to tear up the landscape, pay the money and go to an off-road park where they allow/encourage it. Great video! ...........................G

Hey..Thanks for the video and the message behind it....I live in North Ga.(White county..Cleveland Ga,) and have owned a 1983 CJ7 Jeep since 1989..Things have really change around her over the years and every year it gets worse with roads closing and more people abusing the trails and the mountains...I agree with you that if people don't start taking care of the land and the trails before long DNR will just shut them down and lock the gates so everyone will lose in the long run...I have been witness to see a lot of roads already close for good over the years and will see {more than likely} more close in the future...i am 67 years old and wish that the trails were like they were back 32 years ago but i know THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN...Like they say...if you abuse it you lose it..Thanks for the video and happy Jeeping to you.....Andy Grigg.

People piss me off. We were on a trail in TN.. we came upon a side by side blocking the trail. We stayed back. There were a few other vehicles down a good 50 yards attempting to drag out an abandoned vehicle off the side of the trail over the edge a little bit. We were stuck for over 2 hrs waiting on them. They seemed drunk and didn’t know what the hell they were doing. Using chains around trees, etc. yelling and hollering. They never once even attempted to just let us pass so they could continue their mission. We kept our distance because who knows… They finally drug the vehicle up and started heading off the trail. We have them a few extra mins to get a good ways down before we started to leave. Once we pulled up to where they were at, there was a huge tree they left behind that was across the trail blocking us. We had to move it out of the way. There was trash and broken glass everywhere….

Ditto with kids tagging waterfalls with their initials & graduation year. I videotaped fools setting off fireworks 3 nights in a row for 3+ hrs directly over my tent. Called FS. Repeatedly. They heard it over the phone Photos of cars, tags, people, me asking them to stop bc it was illegal... he said he did it all the time and didn't care. (All on video). There were only 2 Rangers on duty for the whole region for Memorial Day wknd. Sent to HEAD Ranger. He said the guy denied it and wouldn't do anything. This is Cashes Valley Rd, and it being closed will have NOTHING to do with people "spinning their tires" Stop making excuses for states and counties doing things like closing great trails. I have been going there for years and its beautiful and there is no "destroying it" They close the road down when they feel it becomes a liability, Charlies creek will probably be first. We should band together and fight these closures, there are people out there who cannot hike and walk these trails because of disabilities, the only way they can enjoy this stuff is to drive it!!

Got to say thank you for ID'ing the trail. We live about an hour from it, just down in Cherokee County, and finally got our own jeep. Usually rent and go to Moab and Ouray/Silverton/Telluride, but finally can do trails near home. Did Old Bucktown yesterday as a very mild warmup, but wanted to go do this one. Looks like we can now.
I do understand what you are saying, and really agree in the end. Anytime the government gets involved, the chances the situation will be better for the people in the end is slim to none. However what FloridaJeepRides is saying is also legitimate. The amount of disrespect shown for nature, even by those that claim to love it, is insane. While we here in the east may not see a whole lot of issue with it, when you get into alpine tundra any damage done very possibly will never recover. Yet people still act a fool and see a nice meadow so they go do doughnuts in it. Ecoterrorists will always be a thing and just handing them ammo to use against us is not a very smart SOP.

www.treadlightly.org/ Sorry you feel that way - but here's a link to the Tread lightly Organization we have supported this way of wheeling for over 30 years.

@@FloridaJeepRides and I have for 20. But dang man... you were complaining about the hillbillies incessantly. Say your piece about it and enjoy the rest of your ride. The old peckerwoods in that area (I know because I live here) aren’t even online to hear your message so you’re preaching to the choir (your audience) and it was getting exhausting. And the old peckerwoods than need to hear that message know it anyways and they just don’t care
