      just in case you missed it and not sure where the leak is, if you are using a case gasket, or just using a sealant around the outside edge of the case, people do miss the two mounting points in the middle of the case.

    Makes me a little sad that there wasnt more parts put into it like synchros and bearings. You already have the hard part done, regardless of wether it's bad or not why not just go the extra step to make sure it's as good as it can be. Cant even really call this a "rebuild" if the only meaningful part changed out was a single bearing

    • @abracingclassics

    What was the original noise like? Was it a high pitched sound on accelleration? My '17 WRX started whining at higher speed and it stops when clutch is in or when I release gas so it's definitely transmission related but wondering if it would make sense it was simply a bearing as the gear changes are fine and noise is pretty much the same regardless of gear... Thanks.

    • @abracingclassics

      You should be looking at the venting of the gearcase. When you take apart the new input shaft seal, inspect it carefully with a magnifying lens. If it looks perfect, the seal isn't the problem.

    Will the 08 WRX be the same? My car stalls out letting the clutch up even in neutral. Feels like the brakes are on. And it is neutral because I can roll the car. With the engine running or off I can shift into 1 and 2. never 3 and with some wiggling get 4th. I think i can get 5th and reverse but the car won't move, just stalls out if running. I'm thinking this is more than just a clutch but any ideas on the inside?
    update: draining gear oil there were chunks of metal so definitely internal failure. Probably locking up the gears which is why it stalls.
    17:53 end play? What am I looking for here without the special tool?
    How about a link for ordering parts?

  • @e-curb
    @e-curb ปีที่แล้ว

    6:00 " ... the box didn't make noise while shifting. This tells me the synchros are ok." This is not how you determine if the synchros are good. Your synchros are a wear item. Just like your tires and brake pads. The synchros need to be measured and you can only do that by taking the shaft apart.
    One day your synchros will start grinding. The day before that, it shifted just fine.

    Sadly this "rebuild" won't last very long. During the blasting of the castings, sand will have gotten inside the bores for the shift rods and other places where parts were left on. That sand will come out when you start driving it, causing total destruction of all the bearings.
    If you must blast the castings, you must remove every part. The only other way is to get them vapour blasted.

    • @abracingclassics
      @abracingclassics  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This car is still driving as it should. There are more materials to blast with then sand... We blasted it with soda, wich desolves in water. After washing the casings, there is no blast material left.
