    As I see, the use of contrast is optimized based on the primer you use. Of course for the rest of the painting techniques you apply. Great job!!!

      @@zeadkiel3180 well looking at the pictures is not as straightforward as one might think. Also all of them are a bit different.
      I think a mix of Agaros Dunes, Militarum Green and Contrast Medium will be a good tone, maybe one part Agaros Dunes, two parts Militarum Green and two parts medium. That sounds like a good mix.

    Thanks for these guides Juan!! Followed your alpha legion one and it went amazingly well. I’m now painting up some Raven Guard for my alpha legion 30k. Quick question how come you went with mechanicus standard gret base and not the grey seer contrast specific base?

    • @JuanHidalgoMiniatures
      @JuanHidalgoMiniatures  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because with Greyseer you end up with a too light grey after the Black Templar and have to do two layers which end with a straight up Black.
      Mechanicus is the sweet spot, it gets a very dark grey with black shadows that looks like black and not grey but still maintains some colour modulation in the panels.

      I personally paint all my miniatures to this level. This is a personal preference as I don't like armies with different quality between miniatures but of course you can choose to do a less elaborate paintjob for regular units.

      😂😂 In all seriousness the subject of the background music is a very hard one, most people Parise it for being relaxing and not aggressive in their ears, this is the second comment about falling asleep. In the end you cannot please everyone so I always will use something I personally like, and this is it. I really appreciate the feedback though, I genuinely do.
      Regarding chapters only the 9 original loyalist Legions will get a video for now, I need to draw a line somewhere otherwise I will only paint space marines for the rest of my life. You know, I think Warhammer TV turned off their comments to avoid the cynical backlash to their obvious pimping of rarely used colours. Straight up I see your colour list and I'm thinking you work for Games Workshop or at least you're receiving some sort of financial kickback from them. How else can you justify your (25) colour menu? I just watched one artist (Ben Komets) paint an amazing Ultramarine using 9 colours/mediums. I don't doubt your exceptional artistic talent for a minute, but this is ridiculous.

    • @JuanHidalgoMiniatures
      @JuanHidalgoMiniatures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have any sponsorship with GW trust me (I wish! 😂😂, Please GW give me some paint!!!)
      I personally don't like mixing, that's all. You can use less colours? Of course! Feel free to do so! I know how to mix, I studied arts and I can paint using just 5 colours but that's not the point, I like to get consistent results across armies and recipes all the time and maybe I would be able to do so, as would Ben Komets but a lot of people won't.
      The GW system works, wether you like it or not, it helps A LOT of people that aren't artistically inclined to find Highlight and shade colours easily and to get consistent results over hundreds of minis.
      In my case it's convenience, I prefer to grab a pot of paint that is the exact shade I need rather than mix that shade myself, but that's my personal preference. I'm sure if you want to follow this tutorial you can easily take the techniques and just use your own colours, this is not the Bible of how to paint Raven Guard, you can pick and choose from my videos what you think it's good and ignore the nonsense 😁

    • @rowanirish
      @rowanirish 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Thanks for the reply. You make a very valid point regarding consistency of colour throughout an army. Mixing would make that difficult of course. I'm looking to paint an individual primaris from the original 18 legions. A personal fun project. I've been watching dozens of videos by different amazing artists (check out Argomina) researching differing techniques trying to formulate my own approach. I'm starting from scratch, trying to keep costs down by finding common colour denominators across the board. I kinda had a "holy crap" moment when I saw your recipe. I didn't mean to come across as arrogant or anything. I had some beers in me at the time. Your work is fantastic. I would like to see how you would paint the traitor legions on primaris armour as well, even though they don't in the 40k universe.

    • @JuanHidalgoMiniatures
      @JuanHidalgoMiniatures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, I never take comments, even critical ones personally or badly. I always answer all of them because I think it's important.
      You do make a very valid point, that approach is better from an artistic perspective and to grow as a painter BUT it makes for a horrible tutorial, because if I say: "mix a bit of this, that and this other paint" or "add progressively more of this colour", etc. That leads to bad results, because how much is bit?, how can you be sure that is a good match to what you see on screen? and leads people not happy with the videos, but if I say use this colour, then this other, etc. There is no guessing and no margin for error, it's painting by numbers but some people just want that and there is nothing wrong with it.
      You hear a lot people, like Trovarion and Vince (which I deeply admire btw) saying that recipes don't work, but I don't agree. A well designed recipe DOES work, and works very well, but you need to design it, and test it and showcase it well, I spend a lot of time streamlining and working to make my videos very easy to follow with clear steps, repeatable and that don't leave margin for error, at least in terms of application, of course your personal ability is something I cannot account for.
      I personally don't really paint like that when it's for me, not always, I go back and forth, correct adjust, mix a bit to smooth out etc. But this is different, you need to adapt to what you are doing and what you want to achieve, which in this case is teaching.
      Btw, that's a very cool project mate, good luck with it. I will paint the 18 legions myself too but the traitors will be in their current 40k versions and minis, sorry. I set myself that hard limit when I delved into Space Marines and I'm not changing it, otherwise I would be painting Space Marines for the rest of my life.
      Thanks for watching mate and thanks for the feedback and critique, I really appreciate it
