    I scoured about a hundred "how to pain black" armor, most of them for templars and deathwatch, and this one is one almost got bypassed but i gave it a chanse, and though i will be doing it a little differant, your style cought my atention, and is almost exactly what i wanted, so im going with this style for my deathwatch kill team. thank you so much!

    So I commented before saying I will try this on my death company and I have to say this is awesome lol, they came out better than I expected I have to thank you for this video. Out of all the black armor tutorials I had tried this one actually did the job while being painless in the process! I love the gray contrast in this over the blue most people use. Thank you very much again!

    Saw this tutorial about 2 weeks ago. Used it to paint a 10 man Dark Angels tactical squad and a 5 man Hellblaster squad. I normally undercoat my models with black to get a very dark green. By using the technique described in this video I got the dark green I wanted with a zenithal highlight from the light grey. It looks airbrush quality w/o the airbrush. This is now my go-to technique for painting my Dark Angels army. Many thanks!

    im actually have been thinking about doing something similar but with boltgun metal as a base and dry brushing with a controlled directional necron compound and glazing some more with washes to tie it in. Glad to see you got good results with just grey and black eventually ill get a test model started with the silver and black

    Been using this technique on my primaris marines and it's fantastic. Amazing video! Have you tried this on a larger model such as a redmeptor dreadnought or repulser executioner? I'm a little apprehensive to try it but I want the same tone for my whole army. Thanks :)

    I basically use this technique for my Shadowkeepers except I start with Corvus Black which is a bit darker and after the last wash a do one final high points highlight. Looks great once the details are added in red/gold.

    So what's the best way to touch up this type of black if you make a goof on the model with another color? Do you cover with grey/black directly or do you try to build it up with more wash?

    Great video! Do you think that mechanicus standard grey spray primer would work instead of the chaos black primer? I was thinking of painting both Death Company and Deathwach with gray and then darkening them with a black wash but I wasn't sure it would work so thanks for showing me it does!

    I....am so grateful I found this! Ive been planning and had my heart set on the Black Vipers Primarus chapter and I was so distraught because black looked so hard. But this should help, Ill be trying it immediately! If I wanted to add any other colors, should I add them before the last wash or after?

    About to paint my first 40K models (deathwatch intercessors) using this method. Looks way less intimidating than all the 'eavy metal style paint tutorials for them.
    So would I do this whole process first, then rebase coat the silver bits, pads and guns and paint them up?

    Hey, amazing video!
    Can you give advice, how should I clean up some mistakes, if I did one after doing all this black armor technique?
    Is it just cleaning that mistake with eshin grey and washing 3 times?

    I know you guys did this video four years ago from the time of me posting this comment, and I think this is a good tutorial. However, I have to ask... What the hell is going on with your dry brush there, brother?
    That thing looks like it has been through a war, and back again, I would recommend the makeup brush, they are extremely good for dry brushing while maintaining a shape.

  • @scottfekete2982

    You think this works with the new nulin oil formula?

  • @stevolam182
    @stevolam182 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So check this out….i haven’t tried the nuln oil over all this dry brushing (mostly because of the stigma it gets) but I did try an oil wash…for some reason when I made the black oil wash all those tiny little pigments that I broke down got all over the spots I wanted highlighted and it looks like shit. Everytime I use nuln oil it doesn’t leave pigment fragments all over. I might have to try this method and say screw the stigma and just try it…

    Hi, can I use this technique for Dark Angels, but by changing the wash to a green? Would that work?

    • @tomhughes1055
      @tomhughes1055 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      probably not, you would basically end up getting black power armour with a green tint and green in the recesses. If that's the look you want then obviously that won't be an issue :) If not I would probably recommend replicating this style of painting but changing out the shades of grey and black for green equivalents in terms of their brightness (eg caliban green for the darkest, then something like castellan green etc) . I'd probably reccomend biel tan green for a shade

    Lovely video; well presented vocally, which is very important for TH-cam. However, I would suggest having a brighter/second light as a lot of the miniature is in shadow. Additionally please lower the background music, I had to go back a few times to catch a couple of words.

      Get a cheap pack of makeup brushes. The big ones with super soft bristles are perfect for drybrushing and apply paint very smoothly compared to standard synthetic hobby brushes.

    It's still grey though. And the Nuln oil isn't a true black wash.
