yes it was great seeing his opinion of Ted slowly change in that episode. The had twist when Ted said "call me Ted" (surprised by the lack of ego) then again when Beard yelled (hey maybe we have an someone on the squad that actually knows something). Then after seeing Ted playing the mind games with Roy trying to get Roy to step up and be.a leader (Ok maybe ted isnt a complete idiot and has some Idea of what he is doing) then as you said trent was thrown for a loop with that last comment as he has probably never had a coach say something like that to him before.
I met the actor (James) by complete chance on his way to a workout class. Literally walked with me for 10 mins, asking any questions I had and asking me some of his own. Absolutely Top Bloke.
My favourite scene is the press conference after Sam's protest against Dubai Air. Once Trent understands what Sam is trying to accomplish, he asks a straight up question, seemingly setting him up, and Sam's simple "yes" gets the slightest of smirks out of Trent. It shows that despite his journalistic side that wants to dig for dirt, Trent also has a good heart. He's not really asking Sam if he thinks the Nigerian government is corrupt (he knows this already by reading in between the lines), he's saying "I'm on your side, if you go on record, I can help make real change."
I love the scene when Trent runs in to Colin at the bar and helps settle him down after he runs out panicked. He's just an all-around good guy. Brilliant character.
Such a great character! “I love our little chats” moves from sarcastic to sincere, and that shows his progression across the series. His dorkiness and excitement in season three doesn’t come from nowhere-he just covered it by playing the coolly cynical reporter, something he had been doing since the beginning of his career, apparently, as evidenced by what he wrote about the rookie Roy Kent. Being cut loose from The Independent and then soaking himself thoroughly in Ted’s influence allowed his true self to emerge. What Colin said about wanting his two separate lives to be one life also applies to Trent, but his separate lives weren’t about his being gay, but about his being a passionate person, not a hard-boiled cynic. His season spent following AFC Richmond allows that home life persona and professional life persona to merge. He becomes part of The Richmond Way, not just its recorder.
Great summary of the evolution "Trent Grimm" ! Your example with Colin being Gay was spot on, yes it was part of the storyline but represented a larger point that can apply to many different things in life. The show was great and cleverly written to deliver larger picture messages through evolution of each character's story: Issac becoming a leader and Roy gives him Captain armband, Sam realizing his status as a PL player can be used to address real things in life starting with protest and calls Nigeria Govt. corrupt plus his romance story, the Arc of Nate/Jamie/ Roy were all main storylines through all 3 seasons delivering many important messages, and Coach Ted Lasso himself hustling Rupert in Darts (Never judge a Book by its Cover or however you interpreted that) to addressing the important issue of Mental Health to name a few. Ted's philosophy "Its not about Winning and Losing, its making the players the best they can be on & Off the field" being said by Pep to Ted! The best Cameo in the show! * I read they contacted Jose before he took Roma Job: It Would've been funny to see him come to give the team his trademark "You are to Nice, You need to be Assholes on field..." speech, Ted being shocked as its opposite of the Lasso-Way, but the writers could have made it really funny!
God readin this put tears to my eyes. Cause everything you've said is absolutely right on the money... I was telling a friend of mine about this show and will say this til the end. This show is the best show ever
I know this video is about Trent Crimm But the way Ted says " let em know coach " after beard yells " STRAIGHTEN OUT THOSE LINES " is objectively the most coach thing I've ever heard
my favorite thing about Trent receiving the compliment about his glasses is that he removes them, and then looks at them as if for the first time. The first thing that Ted does on meeting Trent is invite self-reflection in such a small, inobtrusive, and supportive way.
@@RangerErnsy The first two episodes were amusing, but I didn’t understand the big deal with Ted Lasso, until Trent Crimm, the Independent. Then it clicked, and I was sold.
When you realize that Ted still didn’t care about wins and losses, but when he finally fully executes his plan, they become one of the best teams, and some the best people.
"It's not about me. It never was." I love it. Being a team player, coach, manager. It isn't about you. And as soon as everyone realizes it's a team game life gets easier. I struggle with it at times.
The best part of that, for me, was Trent saying that he wasn't going to change anything based on their feedback...but Ted only flagged this one thing and Trent took it out.
My favorite Trent moment is the Sam presser. When Trent realizes what Sam is doing, he follows up to allow him to say exactly what he's going to say, knows it's important, and when Sam says that, yes, the Nigerian government is corrupt, he punctuates it. He knows Sam is going to get what he needed. Sam is going to get his platform to say what he needs to say. Not just from him, but from everyone covering Richmond.
the scene with Roy and Trent making peace is one that stuck with me... the whole show was so well-written, and Trent developing was simply another element of it... Americans writing in the British subtle manner...
I seriously think they need to write Trent's book, but also make it a memorabilia item for us die-hard fans. When Ang Lee directed Sense and Sensibility, they wrote a book about the filiming, with all kinds of pictures and stuff. I wish they would do that with The Richmond Way. They could even title it The Lasso Way, since it would be about the show.
I’m sure someone will create a behind the scenes book, but it will be an afterthought, not something you’d seek out and buy as a huge fan. A victim of the digital age…I’m sure there are multiple Wikis, though.
The brilliance of this show was the evolution of every character. Ted’s summation to Trent to change the title because “it’s not about me, it never was” is so poignant. It was always about the players and about them being the best they could be, both on the pitch, as well as off. This show will always be on my Mount Rushmore of TV shows.
"What a f***ing dork." "Yeah. But he's our dork." What a beautiful show of accepting Crimm into the family. Ted, of course, was on board the whole time, but being called a "f***ing dork" by Roy Kent is probably one of the nicest things he's ever said about someone.
I like how Dad paid it forward to Trent when he was fired from his newspaper job. And he came to his work to do a book about Ted. Basically Trent sacrificed his lifestyle so Ted couldn't not help him and support him in his dream
The scene at 12:29 makes me laugh harder than it should 😂 I love the way he jumps and looks around but then still is like "I'm not sure if that's me or you🧐"
As a law student, let me be very clear - that is 100% true. The SC did in fact say that Pornography is difficult to explain but you know it when you see it.
3:07 was the moment when Trent realised that Ted was a genuine leader. Picking a novel out for someone tells you a lot about not only the person who is receiving the gift, but also the person gifting it.
These characters are all so well written, besides 'Trent Crimm, Independent' that absolutely needs a spin-off, we may also have these: 'Dr. Fieldstone, Psy', 'Histories from The Crown & The Anchor' (Mae's Pub), 'The Higgins', and 'Akufo'...just to name a few...
I love that Ted says “success is about these young guys being the best version of themselves on and off the pitch” to Trent and in season 3 Pep says the same thing to Ted which shows that a great coach always should have the best in mind for his guys
The Richmond Way, the Greatest Book to never get written in real life. Would've sold a lot of copies and would become an amazing positive enforcement for the state of our depressing World.
I like to think that Trent had an idea of what he was going to write before he even met up with Ted, but he realises how genuine he is and that he does care about his team, so he suddenly decides to leave dinner early because he needs to switch up the approach and think up a more positive piece to write
James Lance is adorable as Trent Crimm, of course, but I think my favourite scene is Roy popping the balloons. The way James reacts is PERFECT, so funny and cute.
skipping the exchange with ted where trent says something akin to : 'as a reporter I have to print the story. , as a friend I have to tell you my source was nate' seems criminal. sure it was just text messages read by ted but still.
Always loved the coach beard stand-in at 16:55 too, so unnecessarily defines the show. Even through some heavy emotional stuff, you can always crack a smile. "Mucho, mucho joy"
This show had some of the richest characters. Sure, they were all flawed, some more deeply than others, but all the main characters experienced growth. And some of the lines on that show were absolutely amazing. I love “be curious, not judgmental.” Or when Roy says he’s sending his love to the red carded team captain.
Treant Crimm aka James Lance - say what you will about the man - you cannot deny the fact he probably has the most beautiful hair of any individual in any form of media.

Cool
Great character. So well-written. He evolves a bit over the course of the series, but our understanding of him evolves even more.
Well put
Very well said
And even then he still feels like the same person. Great writing
Agree he was great
He was great but gay
The greatest hair ever to grace the screen!
It was fabulous. As a woman, I was envious of that glorious mane.
Second only to Danny Rojas of course ;-)
hes gonna have to fight captain christopher pike for that one.
And voice too!
Can bet it's just shampoo, conditioner, and a hair dryer.
“I just want you to like it.” The much-earned admiration in that line

the episode where Trent follows Ted around for the day might be my favorite of the whole three seasons.
I think the ending part of that episode is where I really started loving the show.
You actually mean that don't you?
From skeptic to believer. It’s nice in the last episode the decoy goal Nate comes back and Trent is there in the managers area.
The scene where Trent/Higgins reads out the article written about Trent is my favorite scene in the entire show.

Trent was the first person Ted won over in England
Either him or Sam.
or Keeley
Keeley, Sam, and Higgins are just nice people. I don't think they needed winning over.
The driver that picks them up at the airport is the first one.
Nate or olly.

Trent treats Ted as his dad after a bit, and he just wants to impress him. It's adorable
Asking Trent what he loves hits so much harder after Season 3. Now we know why Trent hesitated to answer.
It’s such a good show. It’s also sweet to watch how Trent gradually falls in love in with Ted, but it’s really hard not to.
the scene with Roy and Trent making peace is one that stuck with me... the whole show was so well-written, and Trent developing was simply another element of it... Americans writing in the British subtle manner...
12:01 Jamie (Phil Dunster) doing his absolute best to not break is so gd funny.
I think it’s pretty in character for Jamie 🤣

Very clever of them to insert an ad break immediately after Roy screams "oy, listen up!"
Trent has the greatest looking head of hair ever on tv
Roy popping off the balloon while Trent was trying to talk on the phone 😂
The jump from “is this a f***ing joke?” To “you want a lift home?”
Chef’s kiss
I loved the part when he sends a text message to Ted saying “as a reporter I had to write this. But as a man who respects you, my source was Nate”
we demand a spin-off series of "Trent Crimm, The Independent" :D
The man played the role so well it deserves a spin-off
Not “Trent Crimm, Independent.”
The apology to Roy kills me every time ❤
Genius. Roy says the article destroyed him but I think it motivated him, that’s why he kept it.
The cut to Will in the Beard costume will never not get me 💀
that Mercedes is definitely Trent’s style. Fucking sick.
Trent Crimm, independent. I always thought that the show was based on the book 😊
Great character and great actor. He was great!
That’s an interesting idea. I may need to watch again with that thought in mind.
Trent was an incredible story arc. And that hair, wow.
Jamie was embarrassed when Roy called him "such a child"
One of the best characters in a perfect show!
From calling Ted's appointment a joke to being so desperate for Ted's approval on his book, Trent Crimm The Independent came a long way.
