Yeah DC did Hal dirty in the comics and in the Beware my Power movie. I hate it when they make one established character look bad just to make the new guy look better! It's just bad writing.
As a Green Lantern (Hal Jorden) fan I have been asking the same question and I am so sick of it. I was so excited to see him in live action after so long but i face disappointment once again. On God I hate the people at DC when it come to handling Green Lanterns.
The real problem with Green Lantern (any of them) is that they're so much powerful, specially compared with the terrestrial superheroes. In the 90s Jordan became villain because it was perceived as "too much old" for the teen generations at the time (any one remembers when DC killed Superman by the same reason?). It was the same trouble with Justice Society of America: in the 30s it was cool; in the 50s it was old-fashioned for the young readers. Result: Justice League of America. "Reinvent yourself or die". For some, Hal Jordan is cool because he's a spirited-free and an eternal rebel in the 'rules are not for me' style. For others, Jordan is problematic by the same reason. I understand why DC doesn't likes Jordan very much.
The root problem with Hal Jordan is Marvel Envy. Marvel has always outsold DC, and for about 30 years it was because Marvel actually wrote characters who felt real. Well, kind of real. A lot of it was soap opera dreck, but at least there was something human to it. Whereas DC's old school editors were still obsessing with Superman protecting his secret identity from Lois and other very dated nonsense. Basically, DC didn't know how to write its heroes. Hal, in particular, was limitlessly brave and resourceful, but beyond that, largely blank. The DC editors studied Marvel, and the closest they could figure out was, Marvel characters were flawed. Thus, their idea of how to make DC's heroes more interesting was to make them flawed. In Hal Jordan's case, they kept heaping on the flaws in hopes that they'd eventually come up with a Hal that made sense. Well, all they did was wreck Hal. I say, flaws aren't the point; just make your characters feel human. If you're not sure how to do that, think of an interesting person you know; what makes them interesting isn't their flaws, but the way they do things. Heck, maybe base your characters on interesting people you know; you'll find a voice for them pretty damn quick. It's also a good idea to know what the character's upbringing was like; show us the child who grows up to be a hero. We all know about Clark and Bruce. In Hal's case, I would leverage the fact that he's Jewish / Catholic: maybe as a kid, he'd see bullies picking on other Jewish kids, and he'd run in and protect them. Then when the bullies would move on to someone else (perhaps Muslim kids or Eastern Asian kids), Hal would run in and protect them too. He'd get his ass kicked a lot, but he'd get some licks in too, and eventually the bullies would decide it's not worth it to deal with that crazy Jordan kid. Make that part of Hal's legend, and it informs what sort of hero he later becomes.
Truth be told. Dc hates a lot of characters unfortunately that's why so many of them don't have their own adaptations as mcuh as batman & superman. They version of hal jordan I like. The Geoff Johns Green Lantern run comics & the batman 2004 tv series. Green lantern the animated series. The dcau versions who appeared in justice league unlimited for a little but. The Green Lantern frist flight movie. I didn't like the 2011 movie & the way John Stewart was handled in the rushed tomorrowverse. They gave John Stewart Kyle Rayner's origin story. As for the tomorrowverse. That might be a future project might work in the future on the subject of what if I wrote the Tomorrowverse & Ideas I have that I'll save for later once I have worked on content. Also i don't think making hal jordan as parallax too early is not a good idea.
Anti-Monitor because of the way he was handled in tomorrowverse crisis on infinite earths movies. Despite the way he was handled in green lantern the animated series. He at least looked like a cosmic robot. In the tomorrowverse he looked like the giant robot from the day the earth stood still movie. Also to Me. it didn't make sense that he was one out of many Anti-bodies and the multiverse was depicted as a cancer rather as result of John Constantine Killing off Baby Darkseid. It would have made more sense if the Anti-Monitor was Depicted as a cancer because in the comics he was a destroyer of universes. Barry allen aka flash. He's been mostly treated as a plot device to reset two different Continuities in recent Years mainly the tomorrowverse/dcamu & the dceu Which ruined one of my favorite dc animated movies in my opinion justice league Flashpoint. Darkseid because of the way Wb handled the dceu & how making a multiversal piller in the tomorrowverse because those Adjacent dcau & Superfriends had their own version of Darkseid. It would have made more of killing baby Darkseid caused him to Split in a different version himself instead. Hawkman & Shayera hol including Kendra Saunders because thier origins have been all over the place Is sense the character Inceptions because There times were Kendra Saunders & Shayera hol Exist at the same time Despite the fact Kendra Is supposed to be a reincarnation of Shayera hol. In story the spirit of Shayera hol Inhabited Kendra Saunders at the Time she tried to commit suicide If I remember correctly. It was some time after rann thanagar war & infinite crisis. Hawkman. They turned all of this origins into Aspects of his past lives. If they want Shayera hol & Kendra Saunders To exist at the same time. Maybe have tme as different characters and their own entities. Bruce time & Paul Dini have written Shayera hol the best in my opinion. overall or so many characters I think dc hates. That's Just a few examples. I mean look at how many times supergirl's origin has been changed.
@@Darkest-Day-1 Ya, there's definitely an argument for DC mistreating Supergirl. Hopefully, the new movie is good, but in the comics, her origin has changed quite a lot. Also for Darkseid, the comics arguably have been mistreating him for awhile. He was forced to be controlled by the Great Darkness in Dark Crisis when initially everyone thought he would be the big bad of Infinite Frontier. Now what they are about to do with him in DC All in has me worried. I thought he was going to finally be the big bad once again but it doesn't look like that's going to be the case. Also, he was killed in Darkseid War before he could really make an impact. He hasn't been this all-powerful interesting threat since, honestly, Final Crisis. I'm probably going to make a video about Darkseid and Supergirl eventually.
@dcenthusiast me two. Back when infinite Frontier came out I was like many. I thought Darkseid was gonna be the main villain in a way that was awesome. Can't wait to see your videos on supergirl and Darkseid. If they come out.
James Gunn will kill Hall Jordan and only will be a mentor to John Steward a like If John steward was MILES MORALES BUT the thing is that John Steward is not a rooki guy BUT an experimental air force marine that does not need Hal Jordan so instead of put both characters in the same age James Gunn decided this and is an stupid and a wrong decision and his DCU will fail before even started and also why pick up an older actor of 60 years old IF the hal jordan character do not have yet a good solo movie, and now you put it old?
@@faith4657 Only a Superman guru because he read Superman comics, doesn't make him a DC expert or he just hates Hal Jordan. Let's be honest, if he was really a comic guru then he wouldn't be doing Hal dirty knowing the rich history he has with the GL mythos.
Hal didn't have much of a personality until they did the award winning Green Lantern-Green Arrow run. The DCU will do Hal justice by doing Parallax right and bringing him back right. Edit: Hal was artificially aged up in the late 80s, leading to his heel turn as Parallax and when he came back to life, Hal was younger. I think Hal's fall to villainy in Emerald Twilight actually makes a lot of sense. In Hal's mind, he is no longer in the correct reality, so he's going to remake the universe in order to make everything right again and he's willing to do anything to "save the universe". In Hal's mind, he's still the hero. And I even think his death was great, he went too far and in the end was killed by his best friend, Oliver Queen. The Tomorrowverse did ruin his character as Parallax for sure. Hal was still played somewhat sympathetically in the comics when he was Parallax, but here all of the that was removed. They also removed Coast City's destruction, the main reason that even happened and one of the main reasons for his disconnect from reality. I'm totally fine with them killing Hal off in the DCU. Personally, he's one of my least favorite Green Lanterns and I also don't hate Emerald Twilight, I think his turn to villainy makes sense in terms of his character. Hal has always been brash, fearless, disobedient, and arrogant, and those traits are what also makes him a great villain in my opinion, his tendency to do reckless, dangerous, and sometimes even selfish things when he believes he's doing the right thing makes what he does as Parallax make sense to me. Plus, Emerald Twilight brought in Kyle Rayner, my favorite Green Lantern and I would love to see him brought in in the DCU. I do hope he sticks around at least for a little bit though before they kill him, I want to see him with the Justice League, I want to see his friendship with Oliver (maybe even Barry if they're going the route of Barry still being alive), and I want to see him have at least one confrontation with Kyle. My pitch for Lanterns would be like this. Season 1 has whatever villain it chooses. In the first season, we get an episode with Oliver and we get to see Hal and Oliver's friendship as well as being Green Arrow's introduction into the DCU, maybe even Barry if Barry is still alive. The season ends with the destruction of Coast City and we see that effect Hal mentally. Season 2 starts with Hal demolishing the Green Lantern Corps in order to save Coast City, unknowingly dooming many Green Lanterns to die in space and straight up killing Sinestro. Ganthet goes to Earth and gives a ring to Kyle. John and Kyle become the duo for Season 2 with Parallax as the main villain. The finale is a loose adaptation of Zero Hour, bringing together John, Kyle, Guy, Oliver, some surviving Green Lanterns, maybe even some other space based hero, and Rip Hunter to take down Parallax resulting Oliver killing Hal, one of the few times Oliver has ever killed.
why...?? Becaue the real...the original take of HAL JORDAN, the character, NOT the retconned version by Geoff Johns...has always been DULL. Hal's such a boring character, which is a shame, since he's supposed to be this super cocky, Top Gun's Tom Cruise-ish guy... the most intriguing story of Hal for me was the time he turned evil..and eventually becoming Parallax...the REAL legit Parallax...NOT that, again, retconned silly YELLOW demonic alien thingy...also created by Geoff Johns.

It’s because of the movie
That Ryan Reynolds movie destroyed every last bit of respect WB had for Hal Jordan.
I am tired of social security actors playing characters whose stuntmen gotta move like the character's actual age.
OMZ 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What other characters do you think DC has mistreated over the years?
@dcenthusiast
me two. Back when infinite Frontier came out I was like many. I thought Darkseid was gonna be the main villain in a way that was awesome. Can't wait to see your videos on supergirl and Darkseid. If they come out.
Hal Jordan gonna be in space he not the gonna be with the justice league John Stewart gonna be with the justice league
But we want Hal Jordan to be the main lantern and a member of JL
He's literally the founding member of justice league

DCU is literally just getting started
Hal should have his own solo trilogy first
James Gunn will kill Hall Jordan and only will be a mentor to John Steward a like If John steward was MILES MORALES BUT the thing is that John Steward is not a rooki guy BUT an experimental air force marine that does not need Hal Jordan so instead of put both characters in the same age James Gunn decided this and is an stupid and a wrong decision and his DCU will fail before even started
and also why pick up an older actor of 60 years old IF the hal jordan character do not have yet a good solo movie, and now you put it old?
If they wanted an older latern, why didn't they use alan scott.
@@faith4657 Because Gunn doesn't know who he is
@@Ice-tc5vn But isn't he like the comic guru.
@@faith4657 Only a Superman guru because he read Superman comics, doesn't make him a DC expert or he just hates Hal Jordan. Let's be honest, if he was really a comic guru then he wouldn't be doing Hal dirty knowing the rich history he has with the GL mythos.
@@Ice-tc5vn hmm maybe
Hal didn't have much of a personality until they did the award winning Green Lantern-Green Arrow run. The DCU will do Hal justice by doing Parallax right and bringing him back right.
Edit: Hal was artificially aged up in the late 80s, leading to his heel turn as Parallax and when he came back to life, Hal was younger. I can see a younger actor being Hal by the time we get to Sinestro Corp War and Blackest Night.
Gunn hates Hal more than he hates Taserface so why would he waste projects on a character he hates
GOD DAME IT dc want to get rid of hal for Supporting black people's agendas john stewart will never be greater than hal because john never faced and beat all the villains hal faced them hal beat 1-sinestro 2-atrocites 3-paralax 4-general zod (when he charged by 2 suns) 5-black lantern corp 6-paralax 7-amped sinestro 8-mogo 9-cyborg superman (with 10 yellow rings) 10-korona 11-docor polaris 12-king shark (hal beat king shark in 1 headbut without using his ring and his arms)

In terms comics stories hal win because hal comics was writed by frank miller the same guy who wrote BATMAN THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNED & DAREDEVIL BORN AGAIN and these comics is BATMAN/DAREDEVIL GREATEST COMICS AND INCREASSED THEIR POPULARITY
HAL JORDAN IS THE GREATEST GREEN LANTERN & HE IS THE NUMBER 1
The finale is a loose adaptation of Zero Hour, bringing together John, Kyle, Guy, Oliver, some surviving Green Lanterns, maybe even some other space based hero, and Rip Hunter to take down Parallax resulting Oliver killing Hal, one of the few times Oliver has ever killed.
we are get the GLCU baby
Well in that sense even the og Mr Freeze was different prior to BTAS.
Hal Jordan is pretty boring like 80% of the time
Tell me you know nothing about hal without telling me you know nothing about hal jordan
