      Hi & thanks! Wish I had a DIY on this but what I can tell you that the main tube is a 24" Sonotube (used for concrete forms) and the rest of it, base and other little pieces, was made from a sheet of 3/4 MDF and also a 6' 1x4 for the post on the back wrapped in sissal. After initial mock up the most time consuming part was applying the carpet to it. I started with a hand stapler but then bought a compressor plus air stapler and was glad I did.

    I built one extremely similar for my friends twins. For the bark look I used a tight woven textured carpet. The base had two interior levels, the upper aligned with a limb.
    Idk what to call the trees seen in lion king but that was my inspiration.

      The trees from The Lion King are Acacia trees.

    Love this design. DK if my kitty (the Polydactyl Tuxedo Cat in my picture above.) would want something so tall. But, I'm wanting to make a tree similar to yours. I never knew what to use for the coverings - now, I know. TYSM for sharing this video with us. I am truly inspired to make something similar, but, I may have to use cardboard boxes for the form and carpet as you suggest. DK yet. TY again.

    Thanks for sharing this looks amazing. I saw much more expensive one online that looks even more like a tree. But maybe with a little tweaking on your DIY project, I could have a more affordable one similar to that expensive one online.😻😻

    awesome job... beautiful cats. how did you do the shelves inside to support them?

    • @DansHouseofBengals
      @DansHouseofBengals  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      When assembling the inner shelves, all the inner carpeting was done at the same time. First, a strip of carpet around the inside of the Sonotube, then a carpeted shelf on top of that working from the bottom up. Drywall screws were used on the outside perimeter of the Sonotube for added strength affixing the shelves permanently into place.

    I LOVE this and wonder if it is stable when one (or many) of yours hits it running full speed, Or do yours do that? Mine love to run as fast as possible and then hit the cat poles, climbing up to the top. The base on tall ones I have had in the past are not stable and fall over unless set against a wall. Thanks for sharing this idea.

    • @DansHouseofBengals
      @DansHouseofBengals  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's incredibly stable, with a flat base of roughly 2'x2' no amount of zoom launches or multiple furbags on it could even come close trying to topple it over.

    I love this, but one of my cats is 20+ pounds. I would only be concerned about the weight on the inside shelves. You did a great job!

    • @DansHouseofBengals
      @DansHouseofBengals  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The inner shelves would easily support a cat weighing well over 10x that due to screws being used to hold each shelf in place.

  • @100AcreWoodDesigns

    Hows the carpet holding up where you stapled it? Is it holding into the tube well? Im about to start this project.

    • @DansHouseofBengals
      @DansHouseofBengals  ปีที่แล้ว

      Staples holding just fine after 20 years now. Part the carpet so you can sink the staples down to the backing and it will hold up just fine. Air stapler is key as doing it by hand is for the birds.

    • @DansHouseofBengals

      Thanks, sorry no plans available, I found it was easier to visualize it as I was making it and drafting plans would've just slowed down the entire build.
